Best Freight Rate Management Systems (2026): Top 9 Compared

Updated October 2026By StatWharf Editorial9 vendorsMethodology

A freight rate management system stores carrier contracts, tariffs, spot rates and surcharges in one searchable database, then turns a buy rate into a priced customer quote. The nine products below fall into three groups. Freightos for Forwarders, Freightify, CargoSphere and Descartes Global Price Management are rate and quoting platforms that sell to forwarders whatever operations system they run. Magaya Rate Management, CargoEZ, Shipthis and GoFreight sell rate management as one module of a wider forwarding suite, so rates flow into bookings and invoices without re-keying. Wisor focuses on quote automation from inbound email and pushes accepted quotes into CargoWise. None of the nine publishes a price figure: Freightify names its plans and Shipthis states a per-user model, but every vendor asks the buyer to contact sales.

These comparisons draw on public product information, not hands-on testing of every tool. Source records identify available references and checks; missing evidence is marked. Buyer fit is an editorial assessment, not a measured performance score. How to use this research.

Freight rate management systems give forwarders and NVOCCs one place to hold carrier contracts, tariffs, spot rates and surcharges, and a fast way to turn those buy rates into customer quotes. The main choice is between a standalone rate and quoting platform that connects to an existing operations system and a rate module inside a full forwarding suite.

The comparison below covers nine products. Features and pricing come from each vendor’s product, pricing and integration pages, checked in October 2026. No vendor publishes a price figure, so each profile records what the pricing page does state, such as plan names, billing units or trial terms. The main differences are mode coverage, how rate sheets are loaded, the link to systems such as CargoWise and the tools for tariff filing and allocations.

Related pages cover transportation management systems, logistics management platforms and supply chain visibility software.

Vendor details and trade-offs

Freightos for Forwarders

mid-marketfreightos.com ↗
Consider forFreight forwarders that want one rate and quote engine for air, ocean and trucking with live airline rates and direct booking, as the vendor documents these in its Rate & Quote module
Pricing notesQuote-based: the forwarder pages show no plan names or figures, and the pricing address redirects to the Freightos homepage (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateLive air rates and booking across more than 75 airlines sit beside the forwarder's own static rates, so one search covers contract and live pricing

Freightos for Forwarders is the product formerly known as WebCargo. Freightos, which is listed on Nasdaq under the ticker CRGO, now sells it as a suite for forwarders, and the rate management part is marketed as Rate & Quote. The vendor states that forwarders in more than 10,000 offices use the platform.

The Rate & Quote page describes one engine for air, ocean and multimodal pricing. It stores a forwarder's static rates and combines them with live rates, then produces account-specific quotes with landed costs and markups. Book Air lets a forwarder search, compare and book across more than 75 airlines. A separate sales portal adds customer self-service quoting, and a Terminal product adds spot and contract rate benchmarking and forecasts.

The main fit is a forwarder with a significant air book, where live airline rates and booking inside the quoting tool remove a step. The pages fetched do not list file formats for rate sheet upload or name specific TMS connectors, so a buyer on CargoWise or Magaya should ask how quotes and bookings reach the operations system.

Potential strengths

  • The vendor documents air, ocean and trucking quoting in one engine, with static and live rates unified in the same search
  • A sales portal module adds customer self-service quoting and APIs for forwarders that run their own portal

Trade-offs

  • No price, plan or contract term is published, so cost cannot be estimated before a sales conversation
  • The fetched pages do not describe rate sheet file formats or a named CargoWise or Magaya integration, only support for dozens of TMSs
Sources and status

Freightify

mid-marketfreightify.com ↗
Consider forTraditional and digital forwarders and NVOCCs that want spot and contract rates searchable together with margin rules, as listed in the vendor's solutions menu and rate management page
Pricing notesQuote-based: three named plans (Essentials, Essentials+, Enterprise) each show Contact Sales with no figure; the page states transaction fees apply and that automated rate sheet upload is billed per rate sheet (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateRate sheet loading is sold as a service with a stated three-day or one-day turnaround, so a forwarder can choose not to staff rate entry in-house

Freightify sells a core platform for freight forwarders to procure, manage and quote freight prices. The rate management module accepts rates entered one at a time, in bulk, through API upload or by uploading rate sheets. Ocean, air, road and rail sheets are converted into a standard format. The vendor states that more than 250 forwarders in more than 45 countries use it.

Search filters cover carrier, cargo type, commodity, origin and ports, and the module supports multi-port and postal code searches, scheduled searches and export to Excel. Margin rules can be set at product, group, company and port-pair level, and surcharges, demurrage and detention and arbitrary charges are added to quotes automatically. The quotation module tracks quotes through active, expired, lost and won states.

Pricing is structured but not published. Essentials allows one country, up to five users and 500 searches and quotes a month. Rate sheet automation is billed per sheet with a three-working-day standard level or a one-day option. The homepage states integration with CargoWise and other TMS and ERP systems.

Potential strengths

  • The pricing page states plan limits plainly, for example Essentials covers one country, up to five users and 500 rate searches and quotes a month
  • Live rates from more than 30 LCL and FCL carriers and NVOCCs and more than 90 airlines sit beside uploaded contract rates

Trade-offs

  • Every plan shows Contact Sales and transaction fees apply, so the total cost depends on volume and add-ons not shown on the page
  • Essentials+ lists Rate Management Ocean Lite, and the page does not show which plan carries the full contract rate module
Sources and status
  • Product reference

  • Billing terms: Pay 6 months or pay annually toggle with a 10% discount label; rate sheet automation billed per rate sheet

Magaya Rate Management

mid-marketmagaya.com ↗
Consider forFreight forwarders, NVOCCs, BCOs and shippers, the audience the vendor names, especially US ocean intermediaries that must publish tariffs and NRAs with the FMC
Pricing notesQuote-based: the product page offers a demo and shows no plans or figures, and no pricing page is published (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateFMC filing is built in: tariff rates, rules and NRAs can be published from the same system, and a filing can be created directly from a quote

Magaya Rate Management is the rate product that Magaya sells on the page formerly branded Catapult. Magaya, founded in 2001, also sells the Magaya Supply Chain operations platform, and the rate product works with it or with another system of record.

The page describes one control tower to search and compare rates, manage margins, answer RFQs, prepare quotes and file tariffs. Rates are digitised from whatever format they arrive in, and a managed service can take over rate and contract entry. Quotes combine air, ocean, rail and road rates and show schedules and free time.

Two features stand out for US ocean intermediaries. The first is FMC filing: tariff rates, governing rules and negotiated rate arrangements can be published and stored, including in bulk. The second is a surcharge database that the vendor states holds more than 54,000 current values of more than 180 types across more than 340 FMC trade lanes. A Digital Contract Exchange moves rate data between carriers and forwarders, and an extension manages ocean allocation commitments.

Potential strengths

  • A maintained surcharge database with more than 54,000 values and 180 surcharge types reduces manual surcharge entry on US trade lanes
  • Air, ocean, rail and road buy and sell rates can be linked by drag and drop into one multimodal quote

Trade-offs

  • No price is published, and a buyer cannot tell which features are standard and which are paid extensions
  • The FMC filing and surcharge strengths are US-focused and add less for a forwarder outside US ocean trades

CargoSphere

specialistcargosphere.com ↗
Consider forOcean freight forwarders, NVOs, carriers and BCOs that exchange contract rates with partners, as the vendor builds its product around a neutral ocean rate network
Pricing notesQuote-based: no pricing page is published and the rate management service page says to call CargoSphere to learn more (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateRate Mesh lets partners send rates to each other confidentially, with later updates arriving in real time once two parties are connected

CargoSphere describes itself as an ocean freight rate management provider and a neutral rate network for container shipping. WiseTech Global, the company behind CargoWise, acquired it in 2017, and the homepage reads "Now a WiseTech Company". At the time of the acquisition the vendor stated more than 100 customers, naming Kuehne + Nagel and Dachser among them.

Carrier contracts and amendments are loaded by SUDS, a diagnostic upload tool that the vendor runs in-house. A managed service can also enter contracts for the customer. Rate Mesh connects carriers, forwarders and shippers so that each party chooses which rates to send to whom, and updates then flow without re-entry.

For forwarders, the documented workflow covers rate search across own contracts and partner rates, quotes built from buy rates with set margins, HTML or Excel quote output and an internal RFQ path from sales to pricing. A 2019 release documents rate integration and single sign-on with CargoWise One. The product fits an ocean-heavy forwarder that already runs CargoWise more than one that needs air or road rates in the same library.

Potential strengths

  • Rate Mesh lets a forwarder search its own contracts together with rates from agents and co-loaders in one query
  • WiseTech Global owns the vendor, and a documented rate integration and single sign-on with CargoWise One exist

Trade-offs

  • The vendor describes its scope as ocean freight; air, LCL and trucking rate management are not documented
  • Much of the public site dates from 2016 to 2019, so buyers should confirm current features and roadmap directly

Descartes Global Price Management

enterprisedescartes.com ↗
Consider forLarge freight forwarders and logistics service providers with global contract portfolios, as the vendor states 4 of the top 5 forwarders use the product
Pricing notesQuote-based: the product page shows no plans or prices, only contact details and a demo request (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateAllocation management and detention and demurrage agreements are stored with the rates, so commitments and free time sit beside price

Descartes Systems Group sells Global Price Management (GPM) to freight forwarders and logistics service providers. The vendor states that 4 of the top 5 and 12 of the top 25 freight forwarders use it, and that forwarders using it deliver 90% of customer quotes in under 30 seconds.

GPM keeps ocean, air and land rates in one global database. Carrier Data Exchange receives contracts and updates directly from transport providers. Customer Quoting creates quotes in the forwarder's existing formats, and Effective Pricing applies configurable mark-up logic. Allocation Management tracks ocean carrier allocations, and detention and demurrage agreements are stored with the rates. A spot rate module compares contracted rates with market levels.

An API connects GPM data to a TMS, CRM or other system, and reporting covers rate and quote activity. Descartes also sells Digital Rate Management, a customer-facing layer for online quoting, booking and tracking. GPM suits a forwarder whose difficulty is the size of its contract portfolio and allocation commitments, not one that needs a low-cost quoting tool.

Potential strengths

  • Carrier Data Exchange connects directly to transport providers and receives contracts and updates automatically
  • A separate Digital Rate Management product adds customer self-service quoting and booking that the vendor says can launch in under a week

Trade-offs

  • No price or entry tier is published, so a smaller forwarder cannot judge fit on cost before a sales conversation
  • The pages do not name rate sheet formats or specific operations-system connectors beyond a general API

CargoEZ

smbcargoez.com ↗
Consider forFreight forwarders handling air and ocean freight that want rate management connected to CRM, accounting and a customer portal, as the vendor documents these as sibling modules
Pricing notesQuote-based: the pricing page states there is no one-size-fits-all package and the price depends on the modules selected and the forwarder's requirements (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateThe documented workflow runs from enquiry and rate request through comparison, quote and approval to booking and profitability

CargoEZ is a freight forwarding platform from Avow Solutions Inc., and its rate module appears in the navigation as Rates & Tariff (RMS). The product page describes it as purpose-built for freight forwarders.

The module holds carrier rate sheets, contract tariffs, buy and sell rates, surcharges and local charges in one searchable database. Rates are uploaded from CSV and Excel. Air and ocean rates can be compared side by side by price and transit time for a lane. Automated quoting applies stored rates, surcharges and approved margins, and margins can be set by service, route or customer group.

The value of the module depends on the rest of the suite. Rate updates are passed to quoting, invoicing and related workflows, and sibling modules cover a logistics CRM with quotation management, accounting, a customer portal, eAWB and tracking. The pricing page states that subscriptions can be paid monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or annually and that the price depends on the modules chosen. A forwarder already on another operations system gains less from the module alone.

Potential strengths

  • Monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual billing are offered, which suits a smaller forwarder that avoids long commitments
  • Rate validity dates are visible and role-based access controls who sees buy rates

Trade-offs

  • Only air and ocean are documented; trucking and rail rate structures are not named
  • Direct carrier rate feeds and named CargoWise or Magaya integrations are not documented on the product page
Sources and status
  • Product reference
  • Pricing source
  • Billing terms: Annually, half-yearly, quarterly or monthly, per the pricing page FAQ
  • Source review: checked Oct 6, 2026
  • Vendor confirmation: not confirmed

Wisor

specialistwisor.ai ↗
Consider forFreight forwarders whose bottleneck is responding to RFQs from email and portals, and that run CargoWise or another TMS, as the vendor documents email intake and TMS hand-off
Pricing notesQuote-based: the site shows only Book a demo calls to action and no pricing page (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateInbound requests from email, portals and phone logs become structured quote drafts that staff review before sending

Wisor sells software for freight forwarders built around quoting. Wisor Rate Management keeps freight rates, contracts and FAK rates in one place and integrates with the forwarder's TMS or ERP. Contracts can be uploaded, expirations tracked and alerts raised when rates change.

The part that separates Wisor from a classic rate library is intake. Incoming RFQs from email, portals or phone logs are converted into structured quote requests and quote drafts for staff to review. A rates table compares contracted and spot options with price, transit time and service level side by side, and branded PDF quotes apply margins automatically. Wisor Ignite, an agent inside Outlook and Gmail, extends this to sales follow-up.

On integration, the vendor documents a native CargoWise connection through the e-Adaptor, which sends ad hoc quotes and tariffs, a direct API connection to Unifreight and a standard API for other systems. Accepted quotes flow back to the TMS. The site does not publish prices or document mode coverage in detail, so buyers should confirm both.

Potential strengths

  • The integration page documents a native CargoWise connection through the e-Adaptor for ad hoc quotes and tariffs, plus a standard API for other systems
  • Quote analytics cover quote-to-book conversion, response time and profit by lane and customer

Trade-offs

  • Mode coverage and rate sheet formats are not stated on the pages read
  • No price is published, and the AI features are described in vendor terms without third-party measurement
Sources and status

Shipthis

smbshipthis.co ↗
Consider forRegional and multi-branch freight forwarders that want tariffs for every mode inside one operations platform, as the vendor documents mode-specific rate structures and a full forwarding suite
Pricing notesQuote-based: the pricing page states a per-user model in which the subscription cost depends on the number of users, shows Request for Pricing with no figures and describes a 30-day free trial (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateEach mode has its own rate structure, from FCL by container and lane to LTL by zone and weight slab, all searchable in one place

Shipthis is a freight forwarding platform whose tariff and rate management module centralises buy and sell rates with surcharge detection and validity controls. The vendor states that forwarders in more than 35 countries run their operations on it.

Rate structures are defined per mode. FCL rates are held by container and lane, LCL with volumetric conversion, air by weight break, rail across borders, FTL by lane and vehicle type and LTL by zone and weight slab. Local and port charges sit beside them. One search covers modes and carriers, customer-specific tariffs are applied first in quotes and old rate versions are kept with their validity ranges.

Contract rate management stores and versions contracted rates with expiry alerts. Spot rates can be pulled from carriers, a group quote covers several shipments or lanes and an RFQ module handles inbound requests. A margin rules engine applies markups and blocks quotes below a floor. The module belongs to a full forwarding suite with a branded customer portal, so it fits a forwarder replacing its operations system more than one adding a rate tool to CargoWise.

Potential strengths

  • Rate sheets in PDF, Excel or email can be dropped in and normalised by an AI upload tool, according to the vendor
  • A margin rules engine sets floors and prevents quotes below a threshold

Trade-offs

  • No figures are published despite the stated per-user model
  • No CargoWise or Magaya integration is stated; the vendor positions itself as a replacement for those systems
Sources and status

GoFreight

mid-marketgofreight.com ↗
Consider forFreight forwarders that want rate cards parsed for them and won quotes converted into shipments and invoices in the same system, as the vendor documents both
Pricing notesQuote-based: the pricing page offers a custom quote after a short conversation and shows no figures or plan names (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateA won quote converts to a shipment in one click, and its charges flow to invoicing without re-keying

GoFreight is a cloud forwarding platform built for freight forwarders, with a stated presence in the United States, Mexico and several Asian markets. Its Rate & Quoting module collects rates from emails, contracts, spot sources and overseas partners.

Rate ingestion is described as AI parsing: a carrier rate card, PDF, Excel file or email is uploaded and GoFreight states that it is parsed and loaded in under 24 hours. Contract rates keep their validity periods, spot rates sit beside them and both can be compared side by side and pulled into a quote. Rates and quotes support multiple currencies with built-in exchange rates.

Quoting uses templates and markups by customer, lane or service type, produces branded PDFs and tracks each quote as pending, won or lost by customer, lane or sales representative. A won quote becomes a shipment in one click and its charges move to invoicing. Integrations include an open REST API, webhooks and a two-way QuickBooks Online sync. The integrations page lists more than 125 carriers, but for tracking data, not rate feeds.

Potential strengths

  • Contract rates with validity periods and spot rates are stored together and both can be pulled into quotes
  • Multi-currency rates and quotes use built-in exchange rate management

Trade-offs

  • The rate page does not state which modes the rate module supports; buyers should confirm trucking and LCL structures
  • No CargoWise or Magaya integration is stated, so the module suits forwarders moving onto the GoFreight suite
Sources and status

How to choose a vendor

Count the modes the rate library must hold

Coverage differs more than the marketing suggests. CargoSphere describes itself as an ocean rate network. CargoEZ documents air and ocean. Freightify, Magaya and Shipthis document ocean, air and land structures, and Shipthis lists separate structures for FCL, LCL, air weight breaks, rail, FTL and LTL. A forwarder with a large trucking or rail book should confirm that those rates sit in the same library as ocean and air.

Decide who loads the rate sheets

Rate sheets arrive as PDF, Excel and email in carrier-specific layouts. Freightify bills automated rate sheet loading per sheet with a three-day or one-day service level. GoFreight states that carrier rate cards are loaded in under 24 hours. Magaya and CargoSphere offer managed services in which their staff enter contracts. Shipthis and GoFreight describe AI parsing. The cost and speed of loading often matter more than the search screen.

Check the link to the operations system

A quote that cannot become a shipment without re-keying loses much of its value. Wisor and Freightify document CargoWise connections, and CargoSphere is part of WiseTech Global. Magaya, CargoEZ, Shipthis and GoFreight keep rates inside their own forwarding suites. Descartes offers an API to connect its price database to a TMS or CRM. Buyers should ask for the exact integration method and who maintains it.

Frequently asked questions

What is a freight rate management system?

A freight rate management system is software that stores carrier contracts, tariffs, spot rates and surcharges in one database, lets staff search them by lane and mode, and turns a buy rate into a customer quote with margins applied. Forwarders, NVOCCs, freight brokers and some shippers use it. Most products also track rate validity, handle RFQs and report on quote win rates.

How does rate management differ from a TMS?

A transportation management system plans, executes and settles shipments. A rate management system focuses on the price before the shipment: loading rate sheets, searching rates and building quotes. Several products on this page, such as Shipthis, CargoEZ, GoFreight and Magaya, include rate management inside a wider forwarding platform. Others, such as Freightify, CargoSphere, Wisor and Descartes Global Price Management, connect to the forwarder's existing operations system.

Do any freight rate management systems publish prices?

None of the nine products on this page publishes a price figure as of October 2026. Freightify names three plans and their limits but shows Contact Sales on each, and states that transaction fees apply. Shipthis states a per-user model and a 30-day free trial. CargoEZ states monthly to annual billing. The others offer a demo or a call.

Which systems integrate with CargoWise?

Wisor documents a native CargoWise connection through the e-Adaptor for quotes and tariffs. Freightify states integration with CargoWise and other TMS and ERP systems. CargoSphere is part of WiseTech Global and documents a rate integration and single sign-on with CargoWise One. Buyers should ask each vendor which data moves in each direction and who maintains the connection.

How are carrier rate sheets loaded?

Methods vary. Freightify accepts manual, bulk, API and rate sheet uploads, and sells automated loading billed per sheet. Shipthis and GoFreight describe AI parsing of PDF, Excel and email rate sheets, and GoFreight states a loading time under 24 hours. CargoSphere and Magaya offer managed services in which their staff enter contracts. Descartes receives contracts from carriers through its Carrier Data Exchange.

Which tools help with FMC tariff filing?

Magaya Rate Management documents FMC filing, including publishing tariff rates, governing rules and negotiated rate arrangements, bulk filing and creating a filing from a quote. Its surcharge database also covers more than 340 FMC trade lanes. This is mainly relevant to NVOCCs and forwarders on US ocean trades.

Can these systems handle air freight as well as ocean?

Most can, but coverage should be confirmed. Freightos for Forwarders documents live rates and booking across more than 75 airlines, and Freightify lists live rates from more than 90 airlines. Shipthis documents air rates by weight break, and CargoEZ documents air and ocean. CargoSphere describes itself as an ocean rate provider and does not document air rates.

How was this comparison compiled?

Each vendor's product, pricing and integration pages were read on 6 October 2026, and pricing notes record what those pages showed on that date. The comparison is based on published information. The products were not used or tested, and no vendor confirmed its entry. Entries with dated source checks appear first, and their order does not rank product quality.
