These comparisons draw on public product information, not hands-on testing of every tool. Source records identify available references and checks; missing evidence is marked. Buyer fit is an editorial assessment, not a measured performance score. How to use this research.
A transportation management system (TMS) is software that shippers and freight teams use to plan, execute and settle freight moves. A TMS rates and selects carriers, builds loads and routes, tenders shipments, tracks them in transit and audits freight invoices before payment. Larger systems add carrier procurement, network modelling, dock scheduling and planning for private fleets.
The ten systems compared here fall into three groups. Oracle, SAP, Blue Yonder and Manhattan Associates sell enterprise TMS products for complex multimodal networks, usually alongside their own ERP or warehouse software. Descartes, Alpega, Uber Freight and Trimble offer cloud TMS platforms for mid-market and large shippers, each with its own carrier network. The third group is specialist: GoComet focuses on cross-border freight procurement, tracking and invoice audit, and Kuebix by FreightWise serves smaller LTL and parcel shippers with a published entry price. All pricing notes were checked in September 2026. Entries with dated source checks appear first. That order records research readiness. It is not a measure of product quality or a ranking.

Oracle Transportation Management
enterpriseOracle Transportation Management is part of Oracle Fusion Cloud Supply Chain Management. The product page describes a TMS for managing transportation activity across a global supply chain, from simple point-to-point moves to multimodal, multileg and cross-dock operations. Oracle states that it has been named a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Transportation Management Systems for the 19th time. That is an analyst recognition reported by the vendor, not an independent measurement by StatWharf.
Oracle groups the product into several capability areas. Operational Planning determines how to fulfil transportation requirements and supports bid management and order planning with logistics service providers. Transportation sourcing and cooperative routing look at historical shipping patterns to find lane combinations and better asset use. The core Transportation Management module manages the lifecycle of orders and shipments through automated milestone monitoring. A separate freight payment, billing and claims capability consolidates transportation orders from several sources and replaces manual settlement steps.
Fleet Management is a notable part of the scope. Oracle describes fleet-specific planning that takes the current state of a private fleet into account alongside external carrier capacity, so contract and private transportation sit in one system. The fleet module also covers costing, payables, cost accruals and revenue recognition for fleet operations. Logistics network modelling, a digital assistant and machine learning features round out the list.
The product page does not publish prices. It offers a free demo and a product tour, and links to data sheets for each module. Buyers should expect pricing to depend on modules, shipment volume and the wider Oracle agreement.
Oracle Transportation Management fits large manufacturers, retailers and distributors that already run Oracle Fusion applications or need a single system for global multimodal freight and a private fleet. Smaller shippers moving mostly LTL and parcel freight may find the scope larger than they need.

SAP Transportation Management
enterpriseSAP Transportation Management is SAP's TMS application within its supply chain portfolio. The product page describes it as integrating fleet and logistics management across a network, with the stated aims of reducing complexity, improving efficiency and supporting a sustainable, resilient supply chain. It covers transportation and demand planning, interactive freight tendering and freight settlement.
SAP organises the key features into three areas. Strategic freight management handles quote-to-contract processes and automated rate determination, so negotiated rates flow into daily planning without manual lookup. Order management aligns sales orders with transportation orders and adds real-time response and integrated intelligence. Transportation planning optimises the movement of goods, manages delivery activities and gives visibility into the plan. SAP also highlights generative AI features for transportation management, although the product page links to them rather than describing them in detail.
Carrier collaboration is handled through SAP Business Network, which SAP describes as a way for trading partners to share information, transact and collaborate. For a shipper, the practical point is that tendering, status updates and settlement with carriers can run through a network SAP already operates, rather than through separate portals. The page also places the product within SAP's sustainability messaging, with goals around reducing empty space and redundant moves.
SAP cites the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Transportation Management Systems dated 24 March 2025 on the product page. The vendor reports this recognition; it has not been checked independently here.
No pricing is published. Buyers should expect cost to depend on deployment model, SAP licensing and scope. SAP Transportation Management fits manufacturers, retailers and distributors whose order-to-cash process already runs on SAP and who want freight planning and settlement to sit in the same data model. Organisations on other ERPs will want to compare integration effort carefully.
Potential strengths

Blue Yonder Transportation Management
enterpriseBlue Yonder's Transportation Management Solution is positioned as one of the company's Cognitive Solutions. The product page describes a TMS that combines network modelling, advanced optimisation and global multimodal planning with execution supported by a Logistics Ops Agent. It is delivered on the same platform as Blue Yonder's planning and warehouse products and connects natively to the Blue Yonder Network for managing trading partners.
The product is split into five modules. Transportation Modeling supports scenario and what-if analysis of the transport network, with agentic AI assisting the analysis. Transportation Procurement covers carrier sourcing with bid management, optimisation and bid awards across modes. Optimization and Planning provides configurable transportation optimisation and load planning aimed at complex global networks. Load Building produces 3D, inventory-aware truckloads that balance space, weight, service goals and real-world constraints. Transportation Manager handles execution, visibility and collaboration at scale.
The load building capability deserves attention from shippers whose costs are driven by trailer utilisation. Building loads with awareness of the inventory being shipped, rather than just pallet counts, can matter in consumer goods and grocery distribution. Buyers should ask for a demonstration using their own order profiles.
Blue Yonder states that it was named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Transportation Management Systems and a Leader in the 2025 Nucleus Research TMS Technology Value Matrix. The page also shows headline benefit categories such as on-time delivery and transportation cost reduction; these are vendor-reported outcomes.

Manhattan Active Transportation Management
enterpriseManhattan Associates sells Manhattan Active Transportation Management, a cloud TMS that unifies planning, execution, visibility and settlement. The product page describes AI-driven automation of transportation decisions, with execution kept in step as priorities and orders change during the day. It is built on the same microservices architecture as Manhattan's other Active products.
The planning engine is the centre of the vendor's positioning. Manhattan describes multimodal, self-configuring and self-tuning optimisation that runs continuously rather than in fixed batches, choosing carrier, rate, route, mode and load. Route optimisation considers congestion and potential delays as well as distance, and combines inbound, outbound, interfacility and backhaul moves to reduce total miles driven. For procurement, the product supports what-if scenario management and incremental bids, so a freight team can re-bid part of its network without running a full annual event.
The vendor publishes several customer outcomes. Hy-Vee is reported to have improved on-time deliveries by 20% and reduced miles driven by 3% using Manhattan TMS and WMS. Giant Eagle is reported to have reduced empty miles by 8% and total miles by 7.7%. KeHe is said to serve more than 31,000 retailers using the two systems. These are vendor-published case summaries, not independent measurements.
The product is available in Essentials, Enterprise and Enterprise Premier editions. Manhattan presents these as a way to start with a smaller footprint and add capability later. No prices are published for any edition.
Manhattan Active Transportation Management fits grocery, retail and wholesale distributors with private fleets or dedicated capacity, where combining store deliveries, supplier pickups and backhauls has a direct cost effect. Buyers already using Manhattan Active Warehouse Management gain the most from a shared platform, while others should examine integration with their current WMS.

Descartes
mid-marketDescartes describes itself as a cloud-native platform used by shippers, freight brokers and 3PLs to synchronise transportation processes. Its transportation management portfolio is modular. The product page lists a Shipper/3PL TMS, a supply chain visibility platform, dynamic dock appointment scheduling, reporting and analytics, carrier connectivity, fleet management, carrier management, parcel shipping and a separate freight broker TMS. Buyers can deploy one module or several.
The Descartes Global Logistics Network is the main differentiator in the vendor's own account. Descartes presents it as a large carrier data network that connects shippers to carriers for rating, routing, tracking and analytics. For a freight team, this reduces the number of individual carrier integrations to build and maintain.
The Descartes 3G TMS site, which now carries Descartes branding, gives more detail on the multimodal TMS. It serves both shippers and 3PLs or 4PLs. Listed capabilities include multimodal planning, sourcing, rating and execution; LTL rating and tendering with direct carrier connectivity; native drayage handling with scheduling and paperwork to limit demurrage; managed transportation with collaboration portals; and parcel rate shopping with pack and ship. Cross-cutting features cover rating and optimisation, carrier onboarding and compliance, visibility, collaboration, freight audit and settlement, and exception-focused AI.
Descartes cites customer outcomes such as savings above 10% of transportation spend, 50% less time spent tracking and a 20% productivity increase. These are vendor figures. The page also quotes a logistics director at Cabela's on the value of consolidating inbound and outbound operations.
Pricing is not published; buyers are asked to schedule a meeting with the team. Descartes fits mid-market and enterprise shippers and 3PLs that want TMS, dock scheduling and visibility from one supplier. Buyers should confirm which Descartes TMS product the proposal covers.
Potential strengths
- Modular products cover TMS, visibility, dock scheduling, parcel and fleet routing
- Descartes 3G TMS supports LTL, drayage, parcel and managed transportation
Trade-offs
- No list prices are published
- Several overlapping TMS products require care to pick the right one

Alpega TMS
mid-marketAlpega sells Alpega TMS, a cloud transport management system for shippers. The product page describes one platform that handles planning, execution and settlement for every shipment, from order to freight invoice, across road, rail, sea and air. The vendor states that shippers gain access to more than 80,000 verified carriers.
Integration is a central theme. Alpega describes native integration with SAP S/4HANA and connections to other ERP and warehouse systems, so transport operations appear in a single view. Pre-built integration templates are presented as the reason a first plant or distribution centre can go live in as little as three months without disrupting daily operations. Buyers on SAP who do not want to deploy SAP's own TMS may find this route worth comparing.
The functional scope covers transport planning and optimisation, with strategic and tactical planning that selects carrier, rate and consolidation automatically. Real-time visibility combines telematics, EDI, carrier portals and visibility partners in a control-tower view with predictive ETAs and exception alerts. Transport management standardises processes and automates order assignment across modes. Analytics tracks orders, partner acceptance, exceptions and the financial detail finance teams need for audit.
Alpega cites a Forrester Total Economic Impact study of a global consumer goods company that reported 150% return on investment and an eight-month payback over three years. The same study is cited for 5% freight spend savings and more than 80% process cost savings. Alpega also states it is recognised as a Challenger in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Transportation Management Systems. These are commissioned or analyst findings reported by the vendor.
No price appears on the TMS page. Alpega TMS fits manufacturers and consumer goods shippers, that tender freight to many road carriers and want an SAP-connected TMS. Buyers with mostly North American parcel and LTL volume should confirm carrier coverage.
Potential strengths
- Built specifically for shippers across four transport modes
- Access to a network of more than 80,000 verified carriers
Trade-offs
- No price published on the TMS page
- Carrier coverage by region is not broken down on the page and should be confirmed
- Product reference

Uber Freight TMS
enterpriseUber Freight TMS is a transportation management system for shippers that Uber Freight describes as an all-in-one solution for planning, executing and managing logistics across modes and regions. The product page states that brands have used the TMS since 2005, and presents it as serving both shippers and their logistics partners.
The page groups capability into five areas: procurement, execution, visibility, payments and insights. Procurement is described in most detail. Shippers can get spot load estimates from Uber Freight's predictive pricing models, run spot auctions or collect instant quotes from several carriers in one place, and upload contract rates and routing guides. Awards, contracts and carrier communication are managed centrally, and procurement scenarios can be analysed to improve future bids. There is also direct access to Uber Freight's own marketplace through procurement integrations, which gives shippers another capacity source without leaving the TMS.
Several additional products sit around the core TMS. Parcel TMS brings small-package shipping into the same approach. Facility insights draws on driver ratings of shipping and receiving sites; the page cites more than 4.6 million facility star ratings and more than 192,000 facilities reviewed. Shippers can use this data to understand how their own docks affect detention costs and carrier willingness to serve them. LaneHub pools loads with other shippers in the Uber Freight network by carrier and route.
The combination of TMS software and a freight marketplace is the main distinction from software-only vendors. Some shippers value the extra capacity; others prefer a TMS with no link to a brokerage. Buyers should ask how carrier neutrality is handled in tendering.
Pricing is not published, and the page offers a free demo. Uber Freight TMS fits mid-sized and large shippers moving truckload, LTL and parcel freight that want procurement analytics and spot capacity in the same system.
Potential strengths
- Covers procurement, execution, visibility, payments and insights
- Add-ons include Parcel TMS, facility insights and shared-load LaneHub
Trade-offs
- No list prices are published
- Marketplace ties may matter to shippers that want a carrier-neutral TMS

Trimble TMS for Shippers
mid-marketTrimble TMS for Shippers is the shipper-facing transportation management offering from Trimble's transportation business. The product page describes a modular, AI-powered TMS for moving, managing and monitoring freight. Trimble states that the platform connects a multimodal network of 1,500 shippers and 180,000 carriers, and that its applications cover the full freight lifecycle from sourcing through execution to settlement.
The key features listed are a secure cloud-native platform, AI-powered automation of daily tasks, carrier collaboration, advanced analytics and green compliance support for carbon reporting. Trimble emphasises that shippers can pick the applications they need most and build a TMS around their operations. It also states that it builds integrations in-house, adapting to each customer's data formats and use cases. For shippers with unusual ERP or order systems, that claim is worth testing early in an evaluation.
The page publishes three AI-related figures: 90% success in quickly securing spot capacity with AI, a 70% efficiency increase in quoting, and an 80% reduction in check calls. The page does not explain how these figures were measured, so buyers should treat them as vendor claims and ask for supporting detail.
Pricing is where Trimble differs from most enterprise vendors on this page. It describes a flexible, usage-based pricing model tied to the modular approach, rather than a single licence for the full suite. No rates are published. Buyers should ask which usage measure applies, such as shipments, loads or users, and how costs change with seasonal volume.
Trimble TMS for Shippers fits mid-sized shippers that want to start with one problem, such as spot procurement or tracking, and expand over time. It also suits shippers already connected to carriers that use Trimble's fleet and carrier software. Buyers that need deep global ocean and air planning should compare it with the broader enterprise suites.
Potential strengths
- Modular adoption rather than a single large deployment
- Network of 1,500 shippers and 180,000 carriers stated by the vendor
Trade-offs
- Usage rates are not published
- Product page gives limited functional detail per module
- Product reference
- Product documentation
- Billing terms: Usage-based (no rates published)
- Source review: checked Sep 19, 2026

GoComet
enterpriseGoComet describes itself as a platform for global trade logistics, with five products that cover the shipment lifecycle from purchase order to settlement. The products page states more than 500 enterprise deployments, more than 70 countries and more than 50 million shipments executed. These are vendor figures.
The five products map to three stages. GoOrder ingests purchase orders and records context such as criticality, destination plant and supplier history. GoProcure handles freight procurement: requests for quotation, side-by-side comparison of forwarder and carrier quotes, dynamic reverse auctions, contract enforcement and a contracts repository. GoTrack provides multimodal tracking across ocean, air, road, rail and parcel, with predictive ETAs drawn from vessel AIS data, geofencing and carrier data. GoShipment manages execution, documents and collaboration among stakeholders. GoInvoice reads freight invoices with OCR and performs a three-way match across purchase order, shipment and contract, flagging overcharges before payment.
Nova is the layer that binds these products. GoComet describes it as a workflow orchestrator, a data layer, a no-code app builder, service tickets and an agents orchestrator. Service tickets let customs brokers, forwarders and suppliers who never log in complete requests inside the same workflow, with service-level tracking. The vendor positions GoComet as an adaptive layer that can also sit above an existing TMS.
This makes GoComet different from the planning-led TMS products on this page. Its depth is in international freight procurement, tracking and invoice audit rather than domestic load optimisation or fleet routing. Buyers whose main problem is ocean and air freight spend, detention and demurrage, or invoice leakage should weigh it accordingly.
No pricing is published. GoComet fits manufacturers and importers with cross-border supply chains and many forwarders. Shippers focused on domestic truckload consolidation should compare it with optimisation-led systems.
Potential strengths
- Strong focus on international freight procurement and freight invoice reconciliation
- External partners such as brokers can complete tasks without a platform login
Trade-offs
- No list prices are published
- Oriented to cross-border trade more than domestic truckload and LTL planning
- Product reference
- Product documentation
- Billing terms: Not recorded
- Source review: checked Sep 19, 2026
- Vendor confirmation: not confirmed
Kuebix by FreightWise
smbKuebix is a SaaS TMS now offered as Kuebix by FreightWise, with FreightWise based in Brentwood, Tennessee. The Kuebix site describes a multi-modal freight management platform for mid-market and larger shippers, while the FreightWise product page positions it as a TMS built for small and mid-market shippers. Kuebix states that it was recognised in the 2025 Gartner Midmarket Context report for the Magic Quadrant for Transportation Management Systems.
The functional scope is straightforward. Shippers plan shipments from any location and receive rates in seconds, schedule pickups and communicate with carriers inside the platform, and track shipments. Supported modes are LTL, truckload and parcel. The system generates bills of lading, labels and other shipping documents, and reports show performance and transportation spend by mode. FreightWise cites pre-built API connections to hundreds of carriers and training that can get users set up within hours.
Two editions are described. OnKue by Kuebix is the entry plan: OnKue Basic costs $69 a month for up to 100 quotes monthly. The full Kuebix licence supports unlimited monthly shipments, unlimited quotes, users and locations, API integration with ERP and WMS systems including NetSuite, and a dedicated account manager. The price of the full licence is not published.
The FreightWise connection is the other distinguishing point. Shippers without their own carrier contracts can use pre-negotiated rates through the FreightWise Preferred Carriers Program, and FreightWise can negotiate rates or provide a managed transportation service. The vendor states that customers save on average 17% when combining FreightWise and Kuebix. That figure is vendor-reported.
Kuebix by FreightWise fits manufacturers, distributors and suppliers that ship pallets and parcels domestically and want to replace carrier websites and spreadsheets. Shippers needing international ocean and air planning or private fleet routing will need a broader TMS.

Frequently asked questions
What is a TMS (transportation management system)?
A TMS, or transportation management system, is software that shippers and freight teams use to plan, execute and pay for the movement of goods. It rates and selects carriers, builds loads and routes, tenders shipments, tracks them in transit and audits freight invoices. Larger systems add carrier procurement, network modelling, dock scheduling and private fleet planning.
What is the difference between a TMS and a WMS?
A warehouse management system manages work inside a building: receiving, storage locations, picking and packing. A TMS manages what happens once goods leave or before they arrive: carrier choice, load building, routing, tendering, tracking and freight settlement. Manhattan and Blue Yonder sell both as separate products on shared platforms.
How much does a transportation management system cost?
Most TMS vendors do not publish prices. Of the ten on this page, only Kuebix lists a price: OnKue Basic at $69 a month for up to 100 quotes monthly. Trimble describes usage-based pricing without published rates. Oracle, SAP, Blue Yonder, Manhattan, Descartes, Alpega, Uber Freight and GoComet price by demo or sales conversation.
Which TMS options suit small and mid-market shippers?
Kuebix by FreightWise is aimed at small and mid-market shippers moving LTL, parcel and truckload freight and has a published entry plan. Trimble TMS for Shippers is modular with usage-based pricing. Descartes and Alpega target mid-market and larger shippers. Manhattan offers an Essentials edition as a smaller starting point.
Which TMS options are built for global multimodal freight?
Oracle Transportation Management, SAP Transportation Management and Blue Yonder cover multimodal, multileg global networks. Alpega TMS handles road, rail, sea and air with a stated network of more than 80,000 verified carriers. GoComet focuses on cross-border ocean and air freight procurement, tracking and invoice audit.
Can a TMS integrate with an ERP such as SAP or Oracle?
Yes. SAP and Oracle each sell a TMS within their own suites. Alpega describes native SAP S/4HANA integration. Kuebix lists API integration with ERP and WMS systems, including NetSuite. Trimble states that it builds integrations in-house. Buyers should ask for a written integration plan covering orders, rates and freight invoices.
Do TMS vendors also provide freight capacity?
Some do. Uber Freight TMS gives direct access to Uber Freight's marketplace and predictive spot pricing. Kuebix users can access pre-negotiated rates through the FreightWise Preferred Carriers Program. Alpega and Trimble describe large carrier networks. Oracle, SAP, Manhattan and Blue Yonder are software-only and work with the shipper's own carriers.
How was this list compiled?
Candidate vendors were drawn from answer-engine citation data for transportation management queries and from vendor websites.
