These comparisons draw on public product information, not hands-on testing of every tool. Source records identify available references and checks; missing evidence is marked. Buyer fit is an editorial assessment, not a measured performance score. How to use this research.
A web hosting platform keeps a website online. It supplies the server, storage and bandwidth, and usually adds a control panel, SSL certificates, backups, email and one-click installs for WordPress and other applications. Buyers choose between shared hosting, managed WordPress hosting and managed cloud servers, and the choice sets both the monthly price and how much maintenance the site owner keeps.
Pricing models differ more than features. Shared hosts such as SiteGround, Bluehost, Hostinger and DreamHost advertise low introductory rates for a prepaid term of one to four years, then renew at a regular rate that can be three to six times higher. Managed WordPress hosts such as WP Engine, Kinsta and Pressable price by installs, visits and storage on monthly or annual billing. Cloudways bills cloud servers by the hour. Tools for building a site without a hosting account are compared on the website builders page.
The comparison covers eight platforms. Details come from each vendor’s public product and pricing pages, checked on 12 October 2026.

Frequently asked questions
What is a web hosting platform?
A web hosting platform rents server space, bandwidth and management tools so a website can be reached on the internet. Shared hosts place many sites on one server for a low fixed fee. Managed WordPress hosts run only WordPress and handle updates, caching and security. Cloud hosting platforms such as Cloudways run each customer on their own cloud server and bill by usage.
How much does web hosting cost?
Shared plans start at $2.89 to $3.99 a month on prepaid terms: DreamHost Launch $2.89, SiteGround StartUp and Hostinger Premium $2.99, and Bluehost Starter $3.99. Renewal rates on those plans run from $9.99 to $17.99 a month. Managed WordPress starts at $25 a month at Pressable, $28 at WP Engine and $35 at Kinsta. Cloudways servers start at $11 a month billed hourly.
Why does the renewal price differ from the advertised price?
Shared hosts discount the first prepaid term to win new customers, then renew at the regular monthly rate. SiteGround's StartUp plan renews at $17.99 after a 12-month term at $2.99, and Hostinger's Premium plan renews at $10.99 after a 48-month term at $2.99. Kinsta, Pressable and Cloudways show standard monthly or hourly prices without a separate renewal rate.
What is the difference between shared hosting and managed WordPress hosting?
Shared hosting puts many customers on one server and usually supports several applications, email and a control panel. Managed WordPress hosting runs only WordPress and takes care of updates, caching, backups, staging and security. WP Engine, Kinsta and Pressable sell managed WordPress. SiteGround, Bluehost, Hostinger and DreamHost sell shared hosting and also offer WordPress-specific tools or plans.
Which hosting platforms include email?
SiteGround lists free email on every plan. Hostinger includes mailboxes free for one year, two per website on Premium and unlimited on Unlimited and Cloud Startup. DreamHost Launch includes 20 mailboxes free for three months, and DreamPress 1 lists unlimited mailboxes. Bluehost offers a free trial of Pro Email. Cloudways sells Rackspace email as an add-on, and the managed WordPress hosts compared here do not list email.
Which options suit agencies hosting client sites?
Kinsta sells agency plans from $340 a month with an unbranded WordPress admin and hosting credits for eligible agencies. SiteGround's GoGeek plan adds white-label access and Git. Pressable lists collaborator permissions and site templates, and scales to 100 installs. Cloudways allows unlimited applications per server. WP Engine's Core and Enterprise plans cover 30 or more sites.
Do hosting platforms offer refunds or trials?
SiteGround, Bluehost, Hostinger, DreamHost and Pressable each state a 30-day money-back guarantee. Kinsta's entry plans make the first month free. Cloudways offers a free trial without a credit card, and a three-day free trial of Autonomous. Refund terms often exclude domain registration fees, so read each host's terms before buying.
