Best Payment Fraud Detection Software (2026): Top 10 Compared
Payment fraud detection software screens a card or wallet payment before it is authorised or fulfilled and returns an accept, decline or challenge decision. The ten products below come from three kinds of supplier. Kount 360, Forter, Accertify and Ravelin are independent decisioning platforms that a merchant or payment service provider connects alongside any processor. ClearSale and Wyllo combine automated screening with human analyst review and sell mainly to ecommerce merchants. Cybersource Decision Manager, Adyen Protect and Checkout.com Fraud Detection are built into a payment platform and are bought with its processing. FraudLabs Pro is a self-service screening API with published monthly plans for smaller stores. Two vendors publish figures, ClearSale and FraudLabs Pro. Adyen and Checkout.com describe processing fees and the fraud tooling sold with them, and the rest quote on request.

These comparisons draw on public product information, not hands-on testing of every tool. Source records identify available references and checks; missing evidence is marked. Buyer fit is an editorial assessment, not a measured performance score. How to use this research.
Payment fraud detection software decides, within the checkout, whether a card or wallet payment is genuine. It looks at the device, the identity behind the order, the shopper’s behaviour and the payment itself, then approves the payment, declines it or asks for more proof such as a 3D Secure challenge. The buyers are online merchants and the payment service providers that process for them, and the main cost being managed is card-not-present fraud and the chargebacks that follow.
The comparison below covers ten products checked against their vendors’ own pages in October 2026. Some are independent screening platforms, some add a team of human reviewers, and three are built into a payment processor. The main differences are where in the payment flow the decision runs, who reviews uncertain orders, whether the vendor guarantees approved orders, and how prices are set.

Vendor details and trade-offs
Kount is now sold by Equifax, and kount.com redirects to Equifax's identity and fraud pages. The payment product is Payments Fraud on Kount 360, which Equifax positions against card-not-present fraud in digital channels.
Each payment interaction is scored in real time. The system collects device ID, IP address and location, compares them with a global network of data points using machine learning and returns a risk score. The merchant's own policies then decide whether to accept, block or challenge the payment. Equifax names card testing, cross-merchant card testing, address manipulation and buy-online-pick-up-in-store fraud as target threats, and states that false declines can fall by up to 65% and approval rates can rise to as much as 95%. These are vendor figures and depend on the merchant's starting point.
Equifax groups the product with Authorized Payment Protection for account takeover at login and checkout, Chargeback Prevention, Chargeback Recovery and Professional Services, and markets the set to both merchants and acquirers.

ClearSale, which describes itself as part of Experian, sells fraud protection to ecommerce merchants and states that it protects more than 100,000 of them worldwide. Machine learning scores each order, and the company's analyst team reviews complex or high-risk orders before a decision. The pricing page describes three tiers that run from AI-only screening to full human review with a chargeback guarantee.
Pricing is based on approved transactions. Growth plans with the Chargeback Guarantee start from $250 a month and scale with monthly transaction volume. Merchants processing 50,000 or more orders a month move to custom pricing with dedicated analyst teams, custom decision rules, priority service levels, SSO and SAML, and volume discounts.
ClearSale lists more than 18 native platform integrations, chargeback management tools and account protection for identity and abuse cases. Price inputs named on the page include order volume, average order value, industry risk, chargeback history, geographic markets and payment methods.

Wyllo is the current brand at nofraud.com, which now redirects to wyllo.ai, and the company's developer documentation remains at developers.nofraud.com. Payment Fraud Protection is one module of a wider risk platform for online retailers.
The module screens orders in real time, including digital wallet payments, phone orders and $0 orders. Riskier orders are escalated automatically to Wyllo's fraud analysts, which removes manual review from the merchant's own staff. Merchants can add custom rules based on their shopper patterns and run a white-labelled verification experience that contacts customers when more information is needed.
Other modules cover bot and reseller detection, return fraud and abuse, claim and policy abuse, customer service risk scores and chargeback management. Customer stories on the site come from Shopify and Adobe Commerce merchants, including a Fatty15 case study that reports a 63% fall in chargebacks. Pricing is set through a calculator or a demo rather than a published table.
Potential strengths
- Free two-week trial through platform install
- Manual review handled by the vendor's analysts
- Custom rules and a branded verification experience
Trade-offs
- No published price figures
- Brand change from NoFraud means older reviews and integrations use the previous name

Forter's Fraud Management product evaluates identity, behavioural, device and payment signals in real time and returns a decision at checkout. Its core claim is network recognition: the Forter Network covers more than 2 billion identities across more than 250,000 storefronts, which lets the system recognise a legitimate customer on a first purchase with a new merchant.
The product applies the same decision logic across cards, digital wallets, buy now pay later, ACH, gift cards and alternative payment methods, so a merchant does not run separate tools per payment type. The Analytics Agent gathers transaction context for fraud analysts and surfaces the signals behind each case.
Forter sells adjacent modules for payment optimisation, dispute management, account protection and abuse prevention, plus Forter Element. The site also refers to decisions for AI agents as well as people, and quotes Priceline on securing travel bookings. Pricing goes through sales.
Potential strengths
- One platform covers cards, wallets, BNPL, ACH, gift cards and APMs
- Separate modules for payment optimisation, disputes, account protection and abuse
- Analytics Agent speeds up case investigation
Trade-offs
- No published pricing
- Built for high-volume merchants rather than small stores

Accertify sells Fraud Management as part of its Predictive Yes Platform. The product uses machine learning, device intelligence and user behaviour analytics to score transactions in real time, and it is aimed at merchants that keep a fraud team in house.
The analyst workflow is the centre of the product. Analysts can see many transactions in a Queue view or open a single case in a Review view, then investigate with scoring on each element of the transaction. A KPI dashboard reports high-level metrics, and report generation covers analyst, chargeback and resolution reports. Data validation services and consortium data from Accertify's network feed the decision.
The same platform includes account protection, passwordless authentication, abuse prevention, payment optimisation, chargeback management and a payment gateway. Accertify states that it has served merchants for 19 years and lists industry pages for marketplaces, financial institutions, sports betting and iGaming, grocery, quick-service restaurants, ticketing, travel and retail.
Potential strengths
- Analyst workflow tools for high-volume manual review
- Consortium data from Accertify's network
- Same platform offers a payment gateway and chargeback management
Trade-offs
- No published pricing
- Analyst-centred design assumes an in-house fraud team

Ravelin markets payment fraud prevention to both merchants and payment service providers, and publishes separate developer documentation for each. The approach combines bespoke machine learning trained on a client's own data and Ravelin's consortium network, a rules engine and graph analysis.
Each transaction receives a 0 to 100 score. Ravelin Connect maps links between customers, current and past, so a team can see organised rings rather than single orders. The rules engine includes an AI rule generator, semantic search over rule attributes and custom data lists, and rules can be sandboxed and simulated before going live. The Ravelin Dashboard and Insights reporting include an AI query builder.
Ravelin also labels transactions made by autonomous AI agents, and sells modules for refund abuse, promotion abuse, account takeover, marketplace partner fraud, 3D Secure and transaction optimisation. Sector pages cover retail, travel and ticketing, digital goods and subscriptions, and marketplaces.
Potential strengths
- Separate developer documentation for PSPs and merchants
- Rules can be sandboxed and simulated before deployment
- Labels and rules for AI agent transactions
Trade-offs
- No published pricing
- Custom model training suits large transaction histories more than new stores
- Product reference
- Product documentation

Decision Manager is the fraud and risk product of Cybersource, which belongs to Visa's Visa Acceptance Solutions family. Cybersource states that the product draws on insight from more than 269 billion VisaNet transactions, screened 3.2 billion transactions in 2023 and averages under 600 milliseconds per screening.
Rules can run before authorisation. Rejecting a fraudulent attempt at that stage avoids issuer authorisation fees and unnecessary holds on a customer's card, and lets the merchant decide whether to send the payment through Payer Authentication for 3D Secure or check PSD2 exemptions. The Rules Suggestion Engine applies machine learning to historical data to recommend new rules, Decision Manager Replay runs a what-if analysis of a strategy against past transactions, and Identity Behavior Analysis recognises returning good and bad identities.
Cybersource also states uptime of 99.999% across the Visa ecosystem. No price is listed. The page invites merchants to register for an evaluation account or contact sales.
Potential strengths
- Pre-authorisation rules can avoid authorisation fees on rejected attempts
- Rules Suggestion Engine proposes strategies from historical data
- Average screening time under 600ms, as Cybersource states
Trade-offs
- No published pricing
- Built around the Cybersource payment platform

Protect is the fraud module of Adyen Uplift, Adyen's suite for optimising payments for conversion, risk and cost. It combines machine learning, merchant rules and Adyen's global payments data to assess every transaction in real time.
The AI risk score compares each payment with what Adyen describes as trillions of global data points, which helps it recognise trusted shoppers on their first visit to a merchant. That score is passed to the other Uplift modules and informs authentication, checkout and cost decisions. Risk rules can be backtested against historical data and A/B tested on live traffic, and merchants receive benchmarked performance insights with a recommendation engine. Pre-configured settings and automated decisions are meant to keep integration and operating costs down.
Adyen publishes a NordSecurity case study reporting a 10% conversion increase after moving to Protect. Adyen's pricing page lists processing and payment-method fees rather than a separate fraud fee, and states that custom pricing is available on request.
Potential strengths
- Pre-configured risk settings reduce setup work
- Risk rule backtesting and A/B tests
- Benchmarked insights and a recommendation engine
Trade-offs
- Pricing page lists no separate Protect fee
- Tied to Adyen as the payment processor
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Per transaction; minimum invoice by industry
- Source review: checked Oct 28, 2026

Checkout.com offers fraud screening in two tiers. Fraud Detection is the baseline for every Checkout.com merchant: it screens transactions with network intelligence and lets teams manage velocity limits and allow and block lists. Fraud Detection Pro adds machine learning risk scores built on network models and device data collected through Risk.js.
In Pro, velocity rules can use cumulative spend, relative occurrences such as several emails per cardholder, and cross-merchant signals such as devices tied to disputes elsewhere on the Checkout.com network. Rules group into Risk Profiles with positive or negative scores and thresholds to accept, decline or challenge a payment with 3D Secure. Standard users can shadow-test rules on live traffic, while Pro adds backtesting against months of historical data. Both tiers show the triggers behind each decision.
The fraud tools are sold with Checkout.com processing, priced on flat-rate or interchange++ terms.
Potential strengths
- Baseline Fraud Detection is available to every Checkout.com merchant
- Velocity rules can use Checkout.com network data across merchants
- Transaction-level explanation of each decision
Trade-offs
- Only available with Checkout.com processing
- Backtesting and advanced rules require the Pro tier
- Product reference

- Billing terms: Flat-rate or interchange++; tailored quote

FraudLabs Pro is a fraud screening service and API for online stores. It checks orders against IP geolocation, billing and shipping addresses, proxy use, email, payment and blacklist data, then returns a fraud score that the merchant's validation rules act on.
Plans are priced by monthly query volume and unlock more rules and checks as they rise. The free Micro plan covers 500 queries a month with five validation rules. Small adds email domain age, disposable email, card attempt velocity and phone checks. Medium adds virtual card detection, a user network graph, hourly sales anomaly detection and account takeover prevention. Large adds advanced and user behaviour anomaly detection, and Enterprise adds malware exploit checks and the highest limits on sub-accounts and blacklists.
Supported platforms include Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, PrestaShop, BigCommerce, OpenCart and WHMCS. A mobile app lets merchants review flagged orders.
Potential strengths
- Free plan for very small stores
- Plugins for Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce and other carts
- Account takeover prevention from the Medium plan
Trade-offs
- Rule counts and features are capped by plan
- No analyst review service; the merchant reviews flagged orders
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Per month, by query volume

Frequently asked questions
What is payment fraud detection software?
Payment fraud detection software scores a payment or online order for fraud risk before it is authorised or fulfilled. It combines device, identity, behavioural and transaction data with machine learning and merchant rules, then returns an accept, decline, review or 3D Secure challenge decision. Most products focus on card-not-present payments, where the card is not physically presented.
How is payment fraud detection different from general fraud detection software?
General fraud detection software also covers account opening, logins, bank transfers and scams. Payment fraud detection concentrates on the checkout and authorisation step for merchants and payment service providers. Broader platforms are compared on the fraud detection software page, and bank-focused systems on the fraud detection software for banks page.
How much does payment fraud detection software cost?
As of October 2026, FraudLabs Pro runs from a free 500-query plan to $1,249.95 a month, and ClearSale Growth plans with a chargeback guarantee start from $250 a month and are charged per approved order. Adyen and Checkout.com include fraud tools with their processing pricing. Kount 360, Wyllo, Forter, Accertify, Ravelin and Cybersource Decision Manager quote on request.
Should a merchant use its payment processor's fraud tool or a separate product?
A processor tool such as Adyen Protect, Checkout.com Fraud Detection or Cybersource Decision Manager needs no extra integration and can act before authorisation. An independent product such as Kount 360, Forter, Accertify or Ravelin works across several processors and keeps fraud history if the merchant changes acquirer. Merchants that route payments to more than one acquirer usually need the independent option.
What is a chargeback guarantee?
A chargeback guarantee means the vendor reimburses the merchant when an order it approved later becomes a fraud chargeback. ClearSale states this for plans that include its Chargeback Guarantee and charges only for approved orders. Dispute handling after a chargeback is a separate task covered on the chargeback management software page.
Do these tools handle 3D Secure?
Several do. Checkout.com Risk Profiles can challenge a payment with 3D Secure, Cybersource lets merchants route payments to Payer Authentication from pre-authorisation rules, Adyen passes its risk score to authentication decisions, and Ravelin sells a 3D Secure module. A buyer should check whether exemption handling under PSD2 is part of the quoted product.
Can payment service providers use these products?
Yes. Ravelin publishes separate developer documentation for PSPs and merchants, and Equifax markets its payment fraud and chargeback products to acquirers as well as merchants. Processor-owned tools such as Adyen Protect and Checkout.com Fraud Detection serve the merchants on those platforms rather than other PSPs.
Which tools detect card testing attacks?
Card testing is the rapid submission of small payments to find which stolen card numbers still work. Equifax names card testing and cross-merchant card testing as targets of Payments Fraud on Kount 360. Checkout.com Fraud Detection Pro supports velocity rules that use cross-merchant network signals, and FraudLabs Pro adds card attempt velocity checks from its Small plan.
Which products include human review of flagged orders?
ClearSale and Wyllo send complex or high-risk orders to their own fraud analysts, so the merchant does not staff manual review. Accertify takes the opposite approach and gives in-house analysts Queue and Review views, a KPI dashboard and case reports. The other products return automated decisions and leave review of borderline orders to the merchant's team.
How were these payment fraud detection products selected and checked?
The ten products are real vendors with live product pages that describe payment or card-not-present fraud screening. Features and pricing come from each vendor's own product and pricing pages, checked on 28 October 2026. StatWharf did not test the products hands-on, and no vendor confirmed its entry. Order on the page does not indicate quality or preference.
