These comparisons draw on public product information, not hands-on testing of every tool. Source records identify available references and checks; missing evidence is marked. Buyer fit is an editorial assessment, not a measured performance score. How to use this research.

Multi-carrier shipping software lets a business ship with several parcel carriers from one system instead of logging into each carrier’s own tools. It imports orders, compares rates and delivery times across carriers, applies rules that choose a service, and prints carrier-compliant labels and customs documents. The aim is to lower postage cost, avoid dependence on one carrier and speed up packing.

The ten tools compared here fall into four groups. ShipStation, Shippo, Sendcloud, Easyship and Ordoro are self-service web apps for ecommerce sellers with published plans. EasyPost is primarily a shipping API for developers and platforms. ShipperHQ handles multi-carrier rate shopping at checkout rather than label printing. nShift, ProShip and Metapack serve larger shippers that integrate carrier selection with warehouse and ERP systems. This page covers label and rate shopping software; branded post-purchase tracking is covered separately. All pricing notes were checked in September 2026. Entries with dated source checks appear first; that records research readiness, not product quality or a ranking.

Related pages cover shipment tracking software, ecommerce platforms and inventory management software.

Consider forEcommerce sellers on several stores and marketplaces that want order import, automated rate shopping and batch labels in one web app on a monthly plan
Pricing notesStarter US$14.99 per month for 50 shipments per month; Standard US$29.99 and Premium US$349.99 per month on the Shopify App Store listing, each variable by geography and monthly order volume; 30-day free trial (checked Sep 2026)
Feature to evaluateAutomated rate shopping is included from the Starter plan, with unlimited store connections and access to more than 200 carriers using discounted rates or the seller's own accounts

ShipStation is a web-based shipping application for ecommerce sellers. It imports orders from online stores and marketplaces, compares carrier rates, and prints labels singly or in batches.

The pricing page lists three plans. Starter is shown at US$14.99 per month for 50 shipments per month and includes three users, unlimited store connections, automated rate shopping, return labels, basic automations, reporting and email support. Standard adds ten users, unlimited automations, combining and auto-splitting orders, the option to bring existing carrier accounts, returns and exchanges, basic warehouse management, a shipping API and phone support. Premium adds 15 users, advanced inventory and warehouse management, custom analytics, auto-routing, Cubiscan support, ODBC access and dedicated implementation. The pricing page does not print prices for Standard and Premium; the Shopify App Store listing gives US$29.99 and US$349.99 per month, and states that each price varies by geography and monthly order volume. The FAQ adds that postage and insurance are paid separately, and that there is a 30-day free trial and a 90-day refund promise.

The Shopify listing describes discounted rates or the seller's own accounts across more than 200 carriers, including UPS, USPS, FedEx, DHL Express and GlobalPost. It lists order and inventory sync with TikTok Shop, Amazon and Walmart, automation rules to batch, tag and route orders, branded tracking pages and a self-service returns portal.

ShipStation fits small and mid-sized sellers that ship from one or a few locations across several sales channels and want rate comparison without a development project.

Potential strengths

  • Entry price, user counts and plan features are published
  • Unlimited store connections are included on every paid plan
  • A 90-day refund promise is stated on the pricing page

Trade-offs

  • Bringing an existing carrier account starts at Standard, not Starter
  • Plan prices vary by geography and shipment volume, so the listed figure is a starting point

Shippo

Consider forSmall ecommerce sellers that want a free starting plan with discounted USPS, UPS, FedEx and DHL Express rates and a later path to a shipping API
Pricing notesFree plan up to 30 labels per month; Pro US$17 per month for 1 to 200 labels per month, with an annual option shown at a 10% saving; higher tiers by contact; API calls not tied to Shippo labels billed at API rates (checked Sep 2026)
Feature to evaluateThe free plan includes rate comparison across discounted carrier rates, unlimited store connections, international shipping and return labels, and the same carriers are reachable through a documented API

Shippo offers a shipping web app for ecommerce merchants and a shipping API for platforms, marketplaces and logistics providers. Both compare carrier rates, create labels, track packages and handle returns.

The pricing page lists a Free plan, a Pro plan and a contact-sales tier. Free is limited to 30 labels per month and includes discounted USPS, UPS, FedEx and DHL Express rates, unlimited store connections, international shipping, automations, return labels, shipment tracking, reporting and analytics, email support and one user login. Sellers on Free can connect their own carrier account at 5 cents per label. Pro is listed at US$17 per month for 1 to 200 labels per month, with an annual option shown at a 10% saving. It adds AI-powered estimated delivery dates, free connection of the seller's own carrier accounts, branded tracking pages, notification emails and packing slips, chat and phone support, and up to five user logins. The top tier is sold by contact and adds a dedicated account manager, more than 15 user logins and unlimited shipments. A note states that API calls not associated with Shippo labels, such as tracking, rating and address validation, are billed separately at API Starter rates.

The API documentation describes one integration to more than 40 carriers.

Shippo fits new and small sellers that want to compare rates and print labels at little or no fixed cost, and developers who want the same carrier network through an API.

Potential strengths

  • A free plan and a low published paid entry price
  • Connecting the seller's own carrier account is free on Pro
  • One API covers more than 40 carriers for teams that later build their own integration

Trade-offs

  • The free plan charges 5 cents per label when the seller connects its own carrier account
  • Tracking, rating and address validation calls not tied to Shippo labels are billed separately at API rates

EasyPost

Consider forEngineering teams and platforms that want a multi-carrier shipping API for labels, rate shopping, address verification, tracking and insurance, priced per label
Pricing notesFree for up to 3,000 labels on EasyPost wallet carriers, then a per-label fee; bring-your-own-carrier-accounts US$20 per month plus a per-label fee; Enterprise custom; Tracking API US$0.01 to US$0.03 per shipment; insurance 1% of value, minimum US$1.00 (checked Sep 2026)
Feature to evaluateThe API suite covers labels, rate shopping, address verification, tracking and insurance, with separate products for white-label platforms, cartonization and AI-based rate shopping insights

EasyPost is a shipping API company. Its core EasyPost Suite covers labels, rate shopping, address verification, tracking and insurance through one integration, and the vendor describes it as a multi-carrier shipping API combined with AI-powered insight and post-purchase tools.

The pricing page lists Suite on three terms. Free Access with EasyPost wallet carriers is free for up to 3,000 labels, with postage extra and a per-label fee for additional labels. Bring Your Own Carrier Accounts costs US$20 per month plus a per-label fee. The Enterprise plan is priced by volume. Nexus, a no-code Shopify label app, uses the same terms. Forge, a white-label version of the EasyPost APIs for platforms, and Globalship, described as a scalable shipping platform for growing shippers, are sold through sales.

Other products are priced per unit. The Tracking API is listed at US$0.01 to US$0.03 per shipment, and Advanced Tracking, with branded tracking and notifications, at US$0.03 per shipment. Insurance and claims cost 1% of shipment value with a US$1.00 minimum, and automated claims programs are listed for USPS and FedEx. Luma AI provides AI-powered insights and rate shopping, with a higher tier for high-volume shippers, and MagicLogic handles cartonization and load planning; both are sold by quote.

EasyPost fits companies with developers that want to build rate shopping and label creation into their own order, warehouse or marketplace software and pay mainly per label. Merchants without engineering resources can use Nexus, but the broader product set assumes an API integration.

Potential strengths

  • Label, tracking and insurance prices are published per unit
  • A no-code Shopify label app shares the same pricing as the API
  • White-label and enterprise options exist for platforms that resell shipping

Trade-offs

  • The per-label fee after the free allowance is not printed on the pricing page
  • The core product is an API, so a merchant without developers relies on the Shopify app or a partner

Going past 100 labels triggers a temporary account lock until the seller upgrades or the next billing cycle begins. Advanced costs US$59 per month for 3,000 labels, with US$30 for each additional 1,000. It allows five sales channels, five ship-from locations and unlimited users, and adds phone support, automation rules and presets, advanced analytics and batch processing. • Support is described as in-house phone and email support based in Austin, Texas

Consider forMerchants that need live multi-carrier and LTL freight rates, shipping rules and delivery dates shown at checkout rather than label printing
Pricing notesOn Shopify: Essentials US$75 per month for 200 orders, Standard US$350 for 1,000 orders and Advanced US$600 for 2,000 orders; enterprise tier with custom limits by contact; 15-day free trial (checked Sep 2026)
Feature to evaluateLive rates from more than 50 parcel and LTL freight carriers at checkout, with dimensional packing, backup carrier rates and rules for discounts, surcharges and hidden rates

ShipperHQ is a shipping rate management and checkout tool. Where most products on this page compare carrier rates when a label is bought, ShipperHQ compares them at checkout, deciding which carrier services, prices and delivery dates the shopper sees. Buyers that also need labels pair it with a label tool, and the Shopify listing names ShipStation among the systems it works with.

The Shopify App Store listing gives three plans, each with a 15-day free trial and billed every 30 days. Essentials costs US$75 per month for two carriers, five shipping rules, one advanced feature, one origin and 200 orders per month. Standard costs US$350 per month for four carriers, 20 rules, three advanced features, four origins and 1,000 orders. The third tier costs US$600 per month for six carriers, 50 rules, four advanced features, eight origins and 2,000 orders, and adds human support and configuration assistance. The vendor's pricing page adds a dedicated-support tier with custom feature and order limits, enterprise-only features and shipping strategy consulting.

Every plan includes custom-rate carriers such as table rates, flat rates, free shipping and same-day delivery. Live-rate carriers cover more than 50 small parcel and LTL freight carriers, including UPS, USPS, FedEx, DHL, Canada Post, Australia Post, Purolator, Old Dominion, Estes and Sendle. Shipping rules can apply discounts, surcharges or restrictions by product, carrier, weight, origin, location, cart value or customer group.

ShipperHQ fits merchants with heavy, oversized or multi-warehouse products whose main problem is quoting accurate multi-carrier shipping costs at checkout.

Potential strengths

  • Rate shopping and LTL freight quotes happen at checkout, before the order is placed
  • Backup carrier rates switch on automatically during carrier API outages
  • Plan limits on carriers, rules, origins and orders are published

Trade-offs

  • It does not replace label software; it lists ShipStation among the tools it works with
  • Prices climb quickly with order volume, from US$75 to US$600 per month across the published Shopify tiers

The product page describes automatic selection of carrier and service for each order, shipping rules by SKU, value, weight or delivery promise, split shipments, returns and pick-up and drop-off points, and carrier logic configured to reduce cost or emissions. The nShift Delivery pricing page lists Essential, Professional and Premium plans, each with included monthly shipments and a per-shipment charge above the allowance, a 14-day free trial, and month-to-month or annual terms. Plan prices depend on currency and subscription selections and did not render when the page was checked. Essential includes unlimited connected carriers, store and system integration, dynamic delivery options at checkout, parcel validation, automated labels and pickup, return labels, tracking and business-hours phone support. Professional adds shipment notifications, link-to-print, batch label printing, price enquiry and price review. • Carrier selection rules can weigh cost, speed or sustainability

Consider forHigh-volume retailers, manufacturers and distributors that need enterprise parcel rate shopping integrated with WMS, OMS and ERP systems
Pricing notesQuote-based; no public price list, with pricing through a discovery call (checked Sep 2026)
Feature to evaluateThree rate shopping modes, including time-in-transit and date shopping, with on-premise, cloud or hybrid deployment and a versionless architecture without forced upgrades

ProShip is enterprise multi-carrier shipping software for high-volume parcel and LTL freight shippers. The vendor describes the product as carrier-agnostic and aimed at IT and distribution operations teams in retail, manufacturing, healthcare and third-party logistics.

The enterprise product page describes three types of rate shopping: Basic, Time-in-Transit and Advanced Date Shopping. Rating can run at the front of the line through carrier APIs, or at the end of the line at the packing station, so that dimensional weight is included in the calculation. The software applies business rules, rates carriers and prints carrier-compliant labels, and the vendor states that this happens in milliseconds. Carrier rationalization tools let shippers add or remove national, international, regional and final-mile carriers and switch services on or off. The home page states support for more than 250 domestic and international parcel and LTL freight services, delivered either through carrier APIs, through on-platform carrier engines, or both.

ProShip can be deployed on premises, in the cloud or as a hybrid. Its versionless architecture delivers continuous automatic updates without forced upgrades, and the vendor states that it keeps rates, surcharges, service changes and label requirements current for carrier compliance. The software integrates with existing WMS, OMS and ERP systems and covers distribution centres, stores, third-party logistics providers and drop-ship manufacturers. No pricing is published.

ProShip fits large shippers with several distribution centres or ship-from-store networks that need rate shopping built into warehouse execution.

Potential strengths

  • Rate shopping can run at the front of the line through carrier APIs or at the packing station with dimensional data
  • Deployment on premises, in the cloud or as a hybrid is offered
  • Support is listed as 24/7/365 with dedicated account management

Trade-offs

  • No public pricing
  • Built for enterprise distribution operations, so it is heavier than smaller sellers need

Metapack

Consider forLarge retailers shipping across many countries that want one integration to hundreds of carriers with dynamic carrier allocation and checkout delivery options
Pricing notesQuote-based; no public price list (checked Sep 2026)
Feature to evaluateA carrier library of more than 350 carriers, 4,000 services and 1.3 million pick-up and drop-off points, with a stated commitment to build new carrier integrations in four weeks or less

Metapack is a London-based delivery management vendor for ecommerce retailers. Its about page states that it is a member of the ShipStation Global family of companies and that more than a billion packages a year are sent through it. Its shipping product is called Delivery Manager.

The Delivery Manager page describes one integration to more than 350 carriers, 4,000 services and 1.3 million pick-up and drop-off points. Carrier allocation uses real-time data from carriers, warehouses and consignments to choose a service for each shipment, balancing speed and price across economy, next-day and nominated-day options. Shippers can switch carriers, routes or warehouses to work around outages, delays or demand spikes. For cross-border shipping, the product automates customs paperwork and pools volumes to reach better rates. Delivery options at checkout include multi-parcel consolidation, ship-from-store and click and collect.

On performance, the vendor states response times under 300 milliseconds for pick-and-pack automation, more than 1 billion labels and 13.5 billion tracking events a year through its API, and a commitment to onboard new carrier integrations in four weeks or less. No pricing is published.

Metapack fits enterprise retailers shipping to many countries that want broad carrier coverage and allocation logic from one supplier.

Potential strengths

  • Carrier coverage spans every country, according to the vendor
  • Allocation uses real-time carrier, warehouse and consignment data rather than static rules
  • Click and collect, ship-from-store and multi-parcel consolidation are supported

Trade-offs

  • No public pricing
  • Aimed at enterprise volumes, so smaller sellers are better served by the self-service tools on this page

Frequently asked questions

What is multi-carrier shipping software?

Multi-carrier shipping software connects a shipper to several parcel carriers through one system. It imports orders, compares rates and services across carriers, prints carrier-compliant labels and customs documents, and passes tracking numbers back to the store or warehouse system. This page covers label and rate shopping tools; branded post-purchase tracking tools are covered on the shipment tracking software page.

How is multi-carrier shipping software priced?

Self-service tools charge a monthly fee tied to label or shipment volume. ShipStation starts at US$14.99, Shippo, Easyship and Ordoro have free plans, and Sendcloud adds a per-label fee from €0.07 to €0.10. EasyPost charges mainly per label. ShipperHQ prices by monthly orders at checkout. ProShip and Metapack are quote-based, and nShift combines self-signup plans with an enterprise suite.

What is rate shopping?

Rate shopping compares the price and delivery time of every eligible carrier service for a shipment and picks one by rule, such as cheapest, fastest or cheapest within a delivery date. ProShip offers time-in-transit and date-based shopping, nShift and Metapack can weigh cost, speed or emissions, and ShipperHQ runs the comparison at checkout so the shopper sees the options.

Can shippers use their own negotiated carrier rates?

Yes, on most products, with limits. ShipStation allows the shipper's own accounts from Standard, Shippo charges 5 cents per label for this on its free plan and nothing on Pro, EasyPost charges US$20 per month plus a per-label fee, Easyship allows it from its US$29 plan, and Ordoro requires Premium and charges additional fees. nShift and Sendcloud support the shipper's own contracts.

Which tools suit high-volume or enterprise shippers?

ProShip and Metapack are built for enterprise parcel operations, with warehouse system integration, carrier compliance and large carrier libraries, and both are sold by quote. nShift's enterprise suite and EasyPost's Enterprise and Forge products also target larger volumes.

Which tools help with international shipping?

Easyship calculates import taxes and duties from its free plan and shows them at checkout on higher plans. Sendcloud includes customs documents on every paid plan and cross-border partnerships on Pro. Metapack automates customs paperwork and pools volumes across more than 350 carriers.

Does multi-carrier shipping software replace a shipping API?

Not always. EasyPost and Shippo sell APIs that developers build into their own systems, and both also offer a web or Shopify app. ShipStation's Standard plan includes a shipping API, and Ordoro includes API access on Premium.

How were these vendors selected and ordered?

Each vendor sells a live multi-carrier shipping product with a public product page. Pricing notes come from vendor pricing pages or Shopify App Store listings checked in September 2026, and no vendor has confirmed its entry. Every entry has a dated source check, so the order follows content sequence and is not a ranking. No product was tested hands-on.
