Best Email Tracking Software (2026): Top 10 Compared
Email tracking software tells the sender when a one-to-one email is opened, when its links are clicked and, in some products, when an attachment is viewed. The ten products below split into three groups. Mailtrack, MailTag, Right Inbox and Boomerang are lightweight Gmail extensions with low per-user prices and free entry plans. Yesware, Mixmax and HubSpot Sales Hub combine tracking with templates, sequences and CRM logging for sales teams. Streak, Mailbutler and Superhuman include tracking inside a broader product, a CRM in Gmail, an email assistant for several mail clients, or a full email client.
Order is not a ranking. How entries are ordered.

These comparisons draw on public product information, not hands-on testing of every tool. Source records identify available references and checks; missing evidence is marked. Buyer fit is an editorial assessment, not a measured performance score. How to use this research.
Email tracking software shows a sender whether a one-to-one email has been opened, when links inside it were clicked and, in some products, how long a recipient spent on an attached document. Sales reps, recruiters, account managers and freelancers use the data to time follow-ups and to see which prospects are engaging. Bulk cold-email platforms, inbox placement testing and email finders are outside this page; StatWharf compares them separately on its email deliverability tools, email finder tools and AI sales assistant software pages.
The comparison below covers ten products, from low-cost Gmail extensions to sales engagement suites, a CRM built inside Gmail and a standalone email client. Information comes from each vendor’s own product, help or pricing page, checked on 11 October 2026. All ten publish prices, and eight offer a free plan with limits on volume or history.
Vendor details and trade-offs
Yesware is a sales toolkit that runs inside Gmail and Outlook. Its email tracking shows when recipients open emails, click links and view attachments, and an Activity Feed in the inbox lists that engagement in real time. A personal dashboard reports weekly open rates, reply rates and top-performing content, and the engagement history for each prospect is visible from the inbox.
Paid plans lift the limits of the free tier. Pro adds unlimited open, link and attachment tracking, a personal activity report and a recipient engagement report. Premium is aimed at sales teams and adds shared templates and campaigns, team reporting, centralized billing and removal of Yesware branding. Enterprise is built for Salesforce users, with an inbox sidebar, email and calendar sync, bi-directional activity sync and the ability to add Salesforce list views to campaigns.
Yesware also includes a meeting scheduler and multi-channel campaigns with email, call and LinkedIn touches, so buyers comparing it with a pure tracking extension should expect a broader sales tool.
Potential strengths
- Published prices from a free plan through a Salesforce-focused tier
- Documented tracking in both Gmail and Outlook
Trade-offs
- Free plan limits tracking detail to emails sent in the last 24 hours
- Salesforce sync requires the Enterprise plan
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Per seat per month, billed annually or monthly
- Source review: checked Oct 11, 2026
- Vendor confirmation: not confirmed
Mailtrack is an email tracking extension for Gmail, now sold under the Mailsuite name. Tracked emails show one or two checkmarks in Gmail to indicate whether they have been opened, and real-time pop-up notifications appear when a recipient opens a message. An activity dashboard lists recently opened emails, unopened emails and recent link clicks, and reminders flag emails that have not been read after 24 hours.
The three plans differ mainly in history and limits. The free plan records only the first open, the Mailtrack plan keeps the last seven days and the Mailsuite plan keeps the full history. Link click tracking is limited to 10 emails on the lower plans and unlimited on Mailsuite, which also adds custom alerts. The feature table also lists tracked buttons, a custom domain and privacy management.
Mailsuite extends beyond tracking with mail merge and bounce detection, tracked PDFs with per-page time, PDF eSignature requests and CRM auto-BCC. The vendor lists apps for iPhone and Android, a Gmail mobile add-on and an Outlook add-in.
Potential strengths
- Lowest published paid price among the products compared here
- Unlimited tracked emails even on the free plan
Trade-offs
- Free plan records only the first open and 10 link-tracked emails
- Full tracking history and unlimited link tracking require the top plan
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Per user per month as listed; team plans quoted
- Source review: checked Oct 11, 2026
- Vendor confirmation: not confirmed
Mixmax is a sales engagement product that runs in Gmail and syncs to Salesforce or HubSpot. Its pricing separates tracking from outreach: the Inbox Copilot plan covers unlimited open and click tracking, reminders, inbox categorization, smart send, shared templates and meeting scheduling links, while Engagement Copilot adds email and multi-channel sequences with an AI sequence builder.
Mixmax Suite combines both with Meeting Copilot, which provides pre-meeting agendas, meeting recording and transcription, post-meeting summaries and automatic follow-ups. The free plan offers open and click tracking on 20 emails, so it suits evaluation rather than daily use.
Scheduling features include embedded scheduling links, round-robin calendars and booking on behalf of others. For buyers who need only tracking, the Inbox Copilot plan is the relevant comparison point; buyers who also send sequences should compare the Engagement Copilot or Suite plans with sales engagement platforms rather than with lightweight tracking extensions.
Potential strengths
- Unlimited tracking available without buying sequences
- Free plan for trying tracking on a small volume
Trade-offs
- Free plan tracks only 20 emails
- Higher entry price for tracking than single-purpose extensions
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Per user per month, billed annually or monthly; Teams custom
- Source review: checked Oct 11, 2026

HubSpot includes email tracking in Sales Hub, starting with its free sales tools. Reps receive notifications when a prospect opens an email, clicks a link or downloads a document, and those interactions are saved to the contact record in HubSpot's CRM so the full engagement history is visible in one place.
Tracking works through connections to Gmail, Google Workspace, Outlook and Office 365, and tracked emails can also be sent from inside HubSpot. Notifications can be delivered in Sales Hub, the browser, the desktop or a third-party CRM.
Paid editions add capacity rather than the basic tracking function. Starter removes HubSpot branding from one-to-one email and raises snippet and template limits, while Professional and Enterprise raise HubSpot credit allowances and add one-time onboarding fees. HubSpot's page also describes predictive lead scoring based on email interactions. StatWharf compares HubSpot's broader CRM separately on its CRM software page; this entry covers its tracking function only.
Potential strengths
- Free tracking with CRM history for up to 2 users
- Works with Gmail, Google Workspace, Outlook and Office 365
Trade-offs
- Free tier adds HubSpot branding to one-to-one email
- Requires adopting the HubSpot CRM to get full value from the data
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Per seat per month; Professional and Enterprise add one-time onboarding fees
- Source review: checked Oct 11, 2026
- Vendor confirmation: not confirmed
Streak is a CRM built inside Gmail, and its email tracking is offered free as one of its email power tools. A toggle in the Gmail compose window turns tracking on or off for each message. Streak sends a browser or email notification when a recipient opens the email and shows how many times it was opened, along with city-level location and the type of device used.
Tracked emails appear in a chronological list so users can see whom to follow up with next. Mail merge can target only recipients who viewed the previous email, and filters can be built on email view data. Streak's documentation states that tracking works through a small image pixel.
For teams that need more than tracking, the paid plans add shared pipelines, custom fields that update with email activity, tasks, reporting, automations, integrations and AI credits. Streak supports Chrome, Safari and Microsoft Edge, and lists native iOS and Android apps for the CRM.
Potential strengths
- Email and link tracking free with no stated cap
- Tracking data feeds Streak pipelines for teams that adopt the CRM
Trade-offs
- Gmail only, in Chrome, Safari or Edge
- CRM plans are priced well above single-purpose tracking tools
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Tracking free; CRM plans per user per month, monthly or annually
- Source review: checked Oct 11, 2026
- Vendor confirmation: not confirmed
Mailbutler is an email extension that adds tracking, signatures, templates and collaboration features to Apple Mail, Gmail and Outlook. Every plan includes basic tracking, which shows when an email was first opened and when its links were first clicked, with real-time notifications on desktop and mobile.
The Smart and Business plans expand tracking. They record a full history of opens and link clicks, show the device and location used when an email was opened, and break out opens by recipient when a message goes to several people. Smart Follow-ups analyzes tracked emails, sorts them into high, medium and low urgency and can draft follow-up emails with Mailbutler's AI assistant.
Other plan features include message templates, mail merge from contacts, HubSpot, Salesforce or CSV, email assignments, shared notes and tasks, tags and automation rules triggered by events such as email opens and link clicks. The Starter plan centers on email signatures, while Professional adds templates and collaboration.
Potential strengths
- Works across Apple Mail, Gmail and Outlook
- Free plan with basic open and click tracking
Trade-offs
- Full open history, device data and per-recipient tracking start at the Smart plan
- Free plan adds a Mailbutler watermark to sent emails
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Per user per month, billed monthly or yearly
- Source review: checked Oct 11, 2026

Right Inbox is a Gmail extension for Chrome, Safari and Firefox that adds email tracking to a set of productivity tools including send later, recurring emails, reminders, private notes, templates and signatures. Before sending, the user chooses whether to track opens, link clicks or both.
Right Inbox reports whether a recipient opened an email, how many times links were clicked, and the location and device used. The information appears in Gmail when hovering over an eye icon, so users do not need a separate dashboard. The vendor positions the feature for sales, marketing, recruiting and customer support.
Opens and link clicks can trigger stages of Right Inbox sequences, which lets a follow-up email go out automatically when a recipient engages or does not. The Professional plan adds unlimited tracking, mail merge, sequences and CRM integration, and the Team plan adds unlimited team members and priority support. Right Inbox cites more than 12,000 Chrome store reviews.
Potential strengths
- Low published price for unlimited tracking
- Tracking events can drive automated follow-up sequences
Trade-offs
- Free plan tracks only 5 emails per month
- Gmail only
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Per user per month, billed monthly or yearly
- Source review: checked Oct 11, 2026
- Vendor confirmation: not confirmed
Boomerang for Gmail began as a send-later and reminder tool and now lists read receipts, click tracking and response tracking on every plan. Response tracking brings a message back to the inbox if the recipient does not reply within a chosen time, which complements open data for follow-up.
All plans also include Boomerang reminders, Respondable, which gives guidance on writing emails more likely to get a reply, Inbox Pause, Boomerang Insights and meeting scheduling. The Basic plan is limited to 10 message credits a month, while paid plans remove that limit.
Personal supports Gmail accounts only. Pro adds Google Workspace support, unlimited meeting scheduling, recurring messages and advanced Respondable and Inbox Pause features. Premium adds tracking by default for every sent message, a Salesforce and CRM integration, a toolbox of extra features, GQueues and premium support. Boomerang lists iPhone and Android apps on paid plans. All paid prices on the subscription page are stated as monthly figures billed annually.
Potential strengths
- Read receipts and click tracking on every plan, including the free one
- 30-day Pro trial with no credit card
Trade-offs

- Tracking by default and CRM integration require the Premium plan

Superhuman is an email client for Gmail and Outlook accounts, now sold as part of a suite with Grammarly, Docs and the Go assistant. Open tracking appears as Read Statuses, which users enable from the command menu. Checkmarks next to a sent email show whether it has been opened, and hovering over them shows the time, device and each person who opened the message.
A Recent Opens feed lists recently opened messages in real time, with links back to each conversation. Superhuman's help center states that this feed is available on the Business and Enterprise plans. Team Read Statuses share read data across colleagues: when a teammate emails a lead and copies the user, the user can see when the lead read it, how many times and on which device. Team Reply Indicators show when a teammate is drafting or has scheduled a reply.
The Business plan also includes AI inbox organization, AI drafting and views of HubSpot, Salesforce and Pipedrive records from the inbox.
Potential strengths
- Tracking built into the email client with no separate extension
- Team-shared read statuses for collaborative deals and hiring
Trade-offs
- Mail is sold only in the Business plan bundle
- Requires moving daily email work into a new client

MailTag is a Gmail extension sold as a single Pro plan for individuals, with team pricing on request. The plan includes unlimited open tracking without a "Sent with MailTag" watermark, link-click tracking and real-time desktop alerts when emails are opened or links are clicked. Hovering over the MailTag icon in a Gmail thread or the Sent folder shows whether links were clicked.
A MailTag dashboard shows which emails have been read and which have not, along with analytics on how many tracked emails are sent and opened each day, without a 30-day limit. Scheduled emails can also be tracked.
Ping sequences send automated follow-up messages, and when tracking is on, MailTag can automatically BCC emails to a CRM such as Salesforce, configured from the dashboard without code. The plan also includes a signature generator. MailTag states that it uses encryption so that neither the company nor others can see email contents, and it offers a full refund within 30 days of purchase.
Potential strengths
- Single plan with all tracking features and published prices
- 30-day refund window
Trade-offs
- Team plans require at least 5 seats and are quoted by email
- Gmail only
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Per user per month, billed yearly or monthly
- Source review: checked Oct 11, 2026

Frequently asked questions
What is email tracking software?
Email tracking software reports what happens after a one-to-one email is sent: whether it was opened, how many times, when links were clicked and, in some products, when attachments or PDFs were viewed. Products such as Mailtrack, MailTag, Right Inbox and Boomerang add tracking to Gmail as an extension, while Yesware, Mixmax and HubSpot Sales Hub combine it with templates, sequences and CRM logging for sales teams.
How does email open tracking work?
Most open tracking inserts a small invisible image into the email. When the recipient's mail client loads that image, the tracking service records an open, often with time, approximate location and device type; Streak's documentation describes its tracking as a tiny pixel. Link tracking replaces links with redirects that record each click before forwarding the reader to the destination.
How accurate is email open tracking?
Open tracking is an indicator rather than proof of reading. Opens can be missed when a recipient's client blocks images, and opens can be recorded without a person reading when a mail service or security scanner loads images automatically. Apple's Mail Privacy Protection, for example, preloads remote content. Link clicks and replies are stronger signals, which is why several products here also track clicks, attachments or response status.
How much does email tracking software cost?
All ten vendors here publish prices. Free plans are offered by Yesware, Mailtrack, Mixmax, HubSpot, Streak, Mailbutler, Right Inbox and Boomerang, usually with volume or history limits. Paid tracking plans range from $2.99 per user per month for Mailtrack to $7.95 to $9.99 for Right Inbox and MailTag, $15 for Yesware Pro and $29 for Mixmax Inbox Copilot on annual billing. Superhuman includes tracking in its $33 Business plan.
Is there free email tracking software?
Streak offers email and link tracking free with no stated cap as part of its Gmail power tools. HubSpot includes tracking in its free sales tools for up to 2 users. Mailtrack's free plan tracks unlimited emails but shows only the first open, Yesware's free plan limits detail to emails sent within 24 hours, Mixmax tracks 20 emails, Right Inbox 5 a month and Boomerang gives 10 message credits a month.
Which email tracking tools work with Outlook?
Yesware documents tracking in both Outlook and Gmail, and HubSpot's tracking connects to Outlook and Office 365 as well as Gmail. Mailbutler supports Outlook, Apple Mail and Gmail, Mailsuite lists an Outlook add-in, and Superhuman is an email client that works with Outlook accounts. Mixmax, Streak, Right Inbox, Boomerang and MailTag are built for Gmail.
Is email tracking legal?
Email tracking is widely used, but rules on tracking pixels and personal data vary by jurisdiction. In the European Union, tracking pixels and the data they record can fall under consent and data protection rules such as the GDPR. Several vendors provide controls such as per-email toggles, privacy settings or tracking disabled by default. Buyers with compliance obligations should take legal advice for their market.
How was this comparison compiled?
StatWharf Editorial selected ten products whose core or documented function includes open and click tracking for individual or sales email, excluding bulk cold-email senders, deliverability tools and email finders, which are compared on separate pages. Each vendor's own product, help or pricing page was read on 11 October 2026. No product was installed or tested, no vendor reviewed its entry, and the order of entries is not a ranking.
