Best Digital Whiteboard Software (2026): Top 8 Compared
Digital whiteboard software gives a team a shared, zoomable canvas for sticky notes, drawing, diagrams and templates, used live in meetings and workshops or asynchronously between them. The eight products below fall into four groups. Miro, Mural and Lucidspark are dedicated visual collaboration platforms with facilitation tools, integrations and enterprise administration. FigJam and Canva Whiteboards sit inside wider design suites, so the whiteboard comes with the seat a team may already hold. Microsoft Whiteboard is part of Microsoft 365 and Teams and carries no separate price. Conceptboard and Ziteboard are smaller specialists, one focused on German hosting and public-sector procurement and the other on low-cost tutoring and small-team boards. All eight publish either a price or a clear licensing statement.

Digital whiteboard software gives a team a shared online canvas for sticky notes, drawing, diagrams and templates, so that a workshop, retrospective or planning session can run with people in different places. The market splits between dedicated visual collaboration platforms, whiteboards bundled into design suites or Microsoft 365, and smaller specialists built for regulated hosting or online tutoring.
The comparison below covers eight products. Features and pricing come from each vendor’s product, pricing and documentation pages, checked in October 2026. Seven publish price figures, and Microsoft documents that Whiteboard is included with applicable Microsoft 365 tenants. The main differences are what the free plan allows, how guests and occasional editors are licensed, which tier holds facilitation tools and where boards are hosted.
Related pages cover user story mapping software, meeting management software and project management software.

Miro is a visual collaboration platform built around an infinite canvas. The homepage states that more than 100 million people and over 250,000 companies use it, and it lists more than 6,000 templates and 250 integrations. Boards can hold sticky notes, diagrams, docs, tables, slides and Kanban views, so the same workspace can run a brainstorm in the morning and a planning session in the afternoon.
The plans step up in clear stages. Free keeps the three most recent boards editable for an unlimited number of members. Starter adds unlimited private boards, visitor editing, high-resolution exports, a timer and voting. Business adds unlimited guests, a 4,700-shape diagram library covering Mermaid, UML, AWS and BPMN, data tables, Engage activities such as polls and 2x2 matrices, interactive prototypes, AI workflows and agents, and SSO.
Miro AI runs on a credit allowance: 10 credits a month on Free, 25 per member on Starter, 50 per member on Business, and a pooled allowance from 2,500 credits on Enterprise. Enterprise adds enforced SSO, audit trails, domain control, SCIM provisioning, a sandbox and data residency choices, with Enterprise Guard and premium support sold as add-ons. The homepage lists ISO 27001 certification, SOC 2 compliance and GDPR compliance.

Mural describes itself as a visual AI platform for team alignment, linking strategy work to execution. Its use cases include ideation, agile practice, workshop facilitation and customer journey mapping on a shared infinite canvas.
Facilitation is the main distinction. Every plan, including Free, carries what Mural calls Facilitation Superpowers, the set of tools a workshop leader uses to run a session. Business adds LUMA frameworks, a library of structured problem-solving methods that Mural presents as its approach to innovation. Mural AI, included from Team+, supports brainstorming, feedback analysis and suggested next steps.
Rooms and workspaces control who sees what. Free is limited to open rooms in a single workspace. Team+ adds private rooms and unlimited murals, Business adds unlimited guests, SAML 2.0 single sign-on, advanced integrations with Azure, GitHub and Okta, and priority support. Enterprise adds confidential rooms, multiple workspaces, SCIM user and group management, audit logs, reporting APIs, required two-factor authentication, data residency, bring-your-own-key encryption and premier support with training.
The homepage cites customer outcomes from SAP, IBM and HPE, such as 800 hours of meeting time saved a year at HPE. These are vendor-reported figures without a published method.
Potential strengths
- Team+ visitors can edit without a paid seat
- Enterprise lists SCIM, audit logs, required 2FA, data residency and bring-your-own-key encryption

FigJam is Figma's online whiteboard. Figma's pricing page states that FigJam is included with all seats on every plan, so a Figma customer does not buy it separately. For people who never design, the Collab seat includes full access to FigJam, Figma Slides, Figma Buzz and Figma Specs at $3 a month on Professional and $5 a month on Organization and Enterprise.
The FigJam page lists more than 300 ready-made templates, including project kickoff, flowchart, retrospective, standup and Gantt chart. AI features can build meeting templates and timelines from a prompt, sort sticky notes into themes and summarise a session into action items. Participants react with stamps and emotes, talk through audio and live chat, and leave comments, and spotlight mode lets a presenter pull everyone to the same spot on the board.
Widgets and plugins extend the board, and the page lists integrations with Asana, Jira and GitHub. People from other teams or companies can contribute free for 24 hours without logging in, which suits a one-off workshop with an agency or client.
Figma's help centre states that the Starter plan allows a single team with one folder and 3 files. Teams that need more boards move to Professional, where the per-seat cost depends on which seat type each person holds.
Potential strengths
- Low Collab seat price for people who only need FigJam and other non-design products
- AI can generate templates, timelines and visuals from a prompt and sort stickies into themes
Trade-offs
- Seat types and plans are shared with Figma Design, which makes licensing more complex for whiteboard-only buyers
- The Starter plan is limited to a single team with one folder and 3 files

- Billing terms: Per seat per month; Organization and Enterprise billed annually; Professional offers monthly or annual billing

Team is the plan Lucid labels best for collaboration. It adds guest collaborators, collaborator colours, voting, a timer, facilitator tools, a laser pointer, revision history, call-others-to-me, team estimation and support for touchscreen whiteboards. Enterprise adds team hubs, a universal canvas, Lucidchart, SAML authentication, enforceable sharing and guest restrictions, breakout boards, enterprise templates and integrations with Jira Cloud, Jira Data Center, Smartsheet and Azure DevOps Cloud.

Microsoft Whiteboard is the canvas built into Microsoft 365. Microsoft Learn describes it as a visual collaboration canvas and states that Whiteboard on OneDrive for Business is enabled by default for applicable tenants. Administrators can turn it on or off for the whole tenant, hide it from specific users in meetings through Teams policies, and block access through Microsoft Entra Conditional Access.
The product page centres on Teams meetings. A presenter shares a whiteboard from the meeting's share tray, and the same board stays available afterwards in the meeting chat and in the Whiteboard apps for Windows, iOS, Android, Surface Hub and the web. Boards support inking, sticky notes, text and more than 60 free templates. Loop components inside a whiteboard sync with chats, meetings, emails and documents, and Copilot in Whiteboard helps visualise, categorise and summarise ideas.
Storage follows the Microsoft 365 model. New boards are stored in OneDrive for Business, while boards created on a Surface Hub or Teams Rooms device are stored in Azure. Microsoft Learn states that Whiteboard conforms to SOC 1, SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA and EU Model Clauses.
Whiteboard is the default choice for organisations that live in Teams and want no new vendor. Teams that need deeper facilitation, guest workflows or integrations with tools outside Microsoft should compare it against the dedicated platforms on this page.
Potential strengths
- No extra licence for applicable Microsoft 365 tenants
- Microsoft Learn lists SOC 1, SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA and EU Model Clauses conformance
Trade-offs
- Template library is smaller than the dedicated platforms, at more than 60 templates
- Few facilitation and integration features outside the Microsoft ecosystem are documented
- Product reference
- Product documentation
- Billing terms: Included with applicable Microsoft 365 subscriptions; no separate billing

Canva Whiteboards is the infinite-canvas design type inside Canva, the online design platform. The whiteboard page invites teams to collaborate, brainstorm, run strategy sessions or plan projects in an unlimited space, and states that users can create as many whiteboards as they need.
Collaboration features include real-time coloured cursors, timers, comments and sticky notes with reactions. The page states that team members or students can work on a board even if they do not have a Canva account. Diagrams use customisable shapes and automatic connectors, and the full Canva template and content library is available inside the board.
The main distinction is the link to Canva's other design types. A finished brainstorm can be converted into a Canva presentation or doc, and any presentation slide can be expanded into a whiteboard without leaving the design. For teams that already produce slides and social content in Canva, that removes the export step between ideation and finished material.
Pricing follows Canva's general plans rather than a whiteboard-specific price. The plan comparison lists whiteboard collaboration on Free and Pro. Pro is for one person, and Canva points teams that need shared workspaces and approval workflows to Business. Enterprise adds SSO, SCIM and admin controls for larger organisations. Whiteboards work on desktop, in a browser and on mobile devices.
Potential strengths
- Whiteboards are listed on the Free plan, and collaborators do not need a Canva account
- Access to Canva's template and content library, including sticky notes and graphics
Trade-offs
- Pro covers one person only; shared team workspaces need Business
- Fewer workshop facilitation and enterprise whiteboard controls are documented than on the dedicated platforms
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Pro per account per year; Business per person per year; monthly billing also offered
- Source review: checked Oct 25, 2026

Conceptboard is an online whiteboard from a company based in Halle (Saale), Germany. It combines visual collaboration with task management: any content on a board can be turned into a to-do with an assignee, deadline and tags, and work can be tracked on the board in Kanban-style workflows. Teams can use it live in workshops or asynchronously.
Security and data location are the main selling points. Conceptboard states that it is GDPR-compliant, certified to ISO 27001, 27017 and 27018, and hosted in Germany, with 256-bit AES encryption at rest and two-factor authentication. The pricing page lists Germany hosting on AWS, with IONOS and StackIT hosting in Germany as paid options. Special Plans allow a data centre in a chosen region and dedicated single-tenant or on-premises hosting.
The plans scale by contract. Free allows 3 active boards with 100 objects each and 250 MB of storage. Starter adds unlimited boards, facilitator tools and 5 GB. Advanced adds team templates, board history, board approval, custom branding and 1 TB. Corporate & Government adds SSO, audit logs, onboarding and training, an SLA and priority phone support. Conceptboard notes that it is available to German public bodies through Marktplatz Deutschland Digital and supports EVB-IT contracts.
The homepage claims more than 14 million users worldwide and shows testimonials from EnBW, Siemens and the cities of Freiburg im Breisgau and Kiel.
Potential strengths
- ISO 27001, 27017 and 27018 certification with GDPR compliance and hosting in Germany
- Board content can become tasks with assignees, deadlines and tags
Trade-offs
- Prices are listed in euros only, and the two upper tiers require 10- or 100-user minimums on multi-year contracts
- SSO is listed as an additional fee on Corporate & Government
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Starter monthly or yearly; Advanced 12-month contract; Corporate & Government 24-month contract

Ziteboard is a browser-based, zoomable whiteboard for real-time collaboration. Its homepage states that the service is designed for successful real-time tutoring and names teachers, students, private tutors, remote teams, developers and designers as its users. It works on laptops, tablets and phones, with optimisation for Safari on iPad and Chrome on laptops, and offers iPad and Android apps, a Chrome extension and a WordPress plugin.
The feature set reflects the tutoring focus. Users can start voice and video calls from inside the board, and students can join calls on free accounts. A shape recognition algorithm tidies hand-drawn lines, rectangles and circles. A formula editor accepts LaTeX or a virtual keyboard, and a graph plotter and interactive compass support maths lessons. Images and PDFs can be imported, and boards export to PNG, SVG and PDF.
Pricing is simple. Starter is free with 3 owned boards, basic colours, low-resolution image import and public boards only. Pro, at $9 a month or $85 a year, adds unlimited boards and data traffic, custom colours, highlighter pens, high-quality image and PDF import, backup export, text chat, audio and video chat and private boards. One Week Pro gives the same features for a one-time $5. Team plans give every member Pro features at per-user rates that fall with team size and term length.
Enterprise is quoted by email and adds customisation, a REST API, a white label licence, single sign-on, encryption and a dedicated server on the customer's own brand and domain.
Potential strengths
- Lowest published paid entry price on this page, including a $5 one-week option
- Shape recognition for lines, rectangles and circles, and export to PNG, SVG and PDF
Trade-offs
- Free Starter boards are public only and limited to basic colours and low-resolution image import
- Single sign-on, API and white labelling need a quoted Enterprise plan, and payment is by PayPal or bank transfer on request

Frequently asked questions
What is digital whiteboard software?
Digital whiteboard software provides a shared online canvas where several people can add sticky notes, drawings, shapes, diagrams, images and comments at the same time. Teams use it for brainstorming, workshops, retrospectives, planning and teaching. Most products offer an infinite or zoomable canvas, templates, real-time cursors and sharing links, and the larger platforms add facilitation tools, integrations and enterprise administration.
How much does digital whiteboard software cost?
As of October 2026, published paid prices on this page start at $3 a month for a FigJam Collab seat on Figma Professional and Conceptboard Starter at €5 per user a month. Miro Starter is $8 per member a month billed yearly, Lucidspark Team $10, Mural Team+ $9.99 billed annually, Ziteboard Pro $9 a month, Mural Business $17.99 and Miro Business $20. Canva Pro is US$144 a year. Microsoft Whiteboard has no separate price, and every product except Microsoft Whiteboard has a free plan or free tier.
Is there a free digital whiteboard?
Yes. Miro, Mural and Lucidspark each have free plans that keep 3 boards editable. Conceptboard Free allows 3 active boards with 100 objects each, and Ziteboard Starter allows 3 owned public boards. Canva lists whiteboards on its Free plan, Figma's Starter plan includes FigJam within a 3-file limit, and Microsoft Whiteboard is enabled by default for applicable Microsoft 365 tenants and free for education through Microsoft 365 A1.
Do Microsoft 365 users need a separate whiteboard tool?
Not always. Microsoft Learn states that Microsoft Whiteboard is enabled by default for applicable Microsoft 365 tenants, and it works inside Teams meetings and in apps for Windows, iOS, Android, Surface Hub and the web. A dedicated platform such as Miro, Mural or Lucidspark is easier to justify when a team needs a larger template library, workshop facilitation features, guest workflows or two-way integrations with tools outside Microsoft.
Which digital whiteboard is best for running workshops?
No single product suits every workshop. Mural includes facilitation features on every plan, including Free. Lucidspark Team adds voting, a timer, facilitator tools and a laser pointer, and Enterprise adds breakout boards. Miro lists the timer and voting from Starter and polls, scales and 2x2 matrices from Business. FigJam offers spotlight mode, audio and live chat. Buyers should run a real session with their own participants before committing.
Can external guests join a digital whiteboard?
Yes, but the rules differ. FigJam lets people from other teams or companies contribute free for 24 hours without logging in. Mural Team+ gives visitors editing rights, while unlimited guests start at Business. Miro Starter allows visitor editing, and unlimited guests start at Business. Lucidspark adds guest collaborators on Team. Canva states that collaborators do not need a Canva account, and Conceptboard offers temporary guest access on Free.
Which whiteboard tools keep data in the EU?
Conceptboard hosts in Germany, with IONOS and StackIT options and dedicated or on-premises hosting on Special Plans. Miro Enterprise lists data residency in the EU, US, Australia and Japan. Mural Enterprise lists data residency and bring-your-own-key encryption. Buyers with strict requirements should confirm the exact region, sub-processors and contract terms with the vendor before purchase.
How were these digital whiteboard products selected and checked?
The eight products are real vendors with live product pages that describe an online whiteboard for team collaboration. Pricing, plan contents and features come from each vendor's own pricing, product and documentation pages, checked in October 2026. StatWharf did not test the products hands-on, and no vendor confirmed its entry. Order on the page does not indicate quality or preference.
