Dental practice management software is the system a dental office runs on. It books appointments, holds the patient chart and treatment plans, checks insurance eligibility, submits claims, posts payments and produces the production and collections reports that owners use to manage the practice. Most current products add patient reminders, online forms, imaging and, increasingly, AI note-taking.
The market splits by deployment and by how prices are set. Dentrix and Eaglesoft are long-established systems sold through Henry Schein One and Patterson Dental and quoted by sales. Dentrix Ascend, Curve Dental and Denticon sell cloud platforms on quotes, with Denticon tiered by location count. Oryx, tab32 and CareStack publish monthly cloud prices, Open Dental publishes a per-location support fee for its locally hosted software, and Dentally publishes per-surgery prices for the UK and other non-US markets. Imaging-only products are covered on the dental imaging software page.
The comparison covers ten products. Details come from each vendor’s public product and pricing pages, checked on 12 October 2026.

What is dental practice management software?
Dental practice management software runs the administrative and much of the clinical work of a dental office. Typical modules cover appointment scheduling, patient records and charting, treatment plans, insurance eligibility and claims, patient billing and payments, reminders and reporting. Many current systems also include imaging, patient portals and AI tools for notes or X-ray review.
How much does dental practice management software cost?
Open Dental charges $199 per location a month in the US for the first 12 months, then $149. tab32 starts at $125 a month in year 1. What is the difference between cloud and locally hosted dental software?
Locally hosted software runs on a server in the office or on hosting the practice arranges, so the practice manages backups and IT. Cloud software runs in the browser on the vendor's infrastructure. Open Dental offers both: self-hosting with its support fee, or Open Dental Cloud from $250 a month extra. Curve, Dentrix Ascend, Denticon, Oryx, tab32, CareStack and Dentally are cloud systems.
Which systems publish their prices?
Open Dental, Oryx, tab32, CareStack and Dentally publish figures on their pricing pages or FAQs. Curve Dental's pricing page lists included tools without figures, and Denticon lists plans by location count without figures. Dentrix, Dentrix Ascend and Eaglesoft direct buyers to sales or a demo.
Which options suit start-up dental practices?

Oryx Enterprise lists cross-site patient management and enterprise analytics, and tab32 Summit is custom-priced for groups. Dentrix Ascend describes access across locations, CareStack offers location scorecards, and Dentally lists multi-site capability.

Several vendors list separate charges. tab32 bills $0.20 per claim, $0.50 per attachment and $1.25 per eligibility check. Open Dental charges for data conversion, cloud hosting and most eServices, and per-message fees for texting. Oryx adds $100 or $200 a month for each provider beyond two. Ask every vendor for conversion, training, payment-processing and messaging costs before comparing totals.
