Best Ecommerce Checkout Solutions (2026): Top 10 Compared

Updated October 2026By StatWharf Editorial10 vendorsMethodology

This comparison covers the checkout layer of an online store: the page or component where a shopper enters contact, shipping and payment details and places the order. Shopify Checkout with Shop Pay, Stripe Checkout, PayPal Fastlane and Checkout.com Flow come from payment companies and are priced through card processing fees. Bolt and Simpler add one-click checkout networks to existing stores. Foxy, Checkout Champ, SamCart and ThriveCart replace or sit beside a store's native checkout with hosted carts and sales funnels, priced by subscription. General payment gateways and full ecommerce platforms are covered on separate StatWharf pages.

These comparisons draw on public product information, not hands-on testing of every tool. Source records identify available references and checks; missing evidence is marked. Buyer fit is an editorial assessment, not a measured performance score. How to use this research.

An ecommerce checkout solution runs the last steps of an online purchase: it collects the shopper’s contact, shipping and payment details, applies taxes, discounts and shipping costs, and submits the payment to a processor. Because most abandoned carts are lost at this step, merchants often replace or extend their platform’s default checkout to add saved-detail wallets, local payment methods, upsells or faster pages.

The market splits into three groups. Payment companies offer checkout components priced through processing fees: Shopify Checkout with Shop Pay, Stripe Checkout, PayPal Fastlane and Checkout.com Flow. One-click networks, such as Bolt and Simpler, add a shared shopper account to an existing store. Hosted carts and funnel builders, such as Foxy, Checkout Champ, SamCart and ThriveCart, replace or sit alongside the store’s checkout and charge a subscription.

The comparison covers ten products. Details come from each vendor’s public product, documentation and pricing pages, checked on 15 October 2026.

Vendor details and trade-offs

Shopify Checkout and Shop Pay

enterpriseshopify.com ↗
Consider forMerchants that sell on Shopify, or plan to, and want a hosted checkout with an accelerated wallet and instalment options, as Shopify's Shop Pay and pricing pages describe
Pricing notesCheckout is included in every Shopify plan. Basic is $29 per month billed yearly or $39 billed monthly, Grow is listed at $79 per month and Advanced at $299 per month. Online card rates through Shopify Payments start at 2.9% + 30¢ on Basic, 2.7% + 30¢ on Grow and 2.5% + 30¢ on Advanced. Stores that use a third-party gateway pay an additional 2% transaction fee on Basic. Shop Pay carries no additional fee for merchants on Shopify Payments (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateShop Pay stores shopper details for one-tap checkout across Shopify stores, the Shop app and social channels

Shopify includes a hosted checkout in every store plan, and Shop Pay is its accelerated checkout. Shop Pay stores a shopper's encrypted shipping and billing details so that a returning buyer can pay in one tap at any participating merchant. Shopify's Shop Pay page states that any merchant using Shopify Payments receives Shop Pay automatically with no additional fees, and that Shop Pay can be offered on the storefront, in the Shop app, and on Facebook, Instagram and Google.

Shop Pay Installments lets shoppers split purchases into interest-free payments or monthly instalments of up to 24 months; Shopify's page notes that these options are provided by Affirm's lending partners and depend on eligibility. Shop Pay checkout links let merchants send buyers straight to a two-tap checkout from email, chat, social media or a headless storefront.

Shopify's pricing page lists card rates that fall as plan tier rises, a 1% international surcharge and built-in fraud analysis that requires Shopify Payments. The checkout layer is therefore inseparable from the Shopify platform: buyers on other commerce platforms cannot adopt Shopify Checkout on its own.

Potential strengths

  • Shop Pay is switched on automatically with Shopify Payments at no extra fee
  • Shop Pay Installments adds pay-over-time options through Affirm's lending partners
  • Checkout links let merchants sell outside the storefront, including in email and social posts

Trade-offs

  • The full checkout requires running the store on Shopify
  • A 2% transaction fee applies on Basic when a third-party gateway replaces Shopify Payments

Stripe Checkout

enterprisestripe.com ↗
Consider forBusinesses that already use or plan to use Stripe and want a prebuilt checkout page for one-time and subscription payments with low maintenance, as Stripe's Checkout product page and documentation describe
Pricing notesStripe lists pay-as-you-go pricing of 2.9% + 30¢ per successful transaction for domestic cards, with no setup or monthly fees, and custom packages for businesses with large payment volume. Checkout is presented on the same pricing page as an included prebuilt payment form rather than a separately priced product (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateThree checkout UIs from one Checkout Sessions API, from a hosted full page to fully custom Elements

Stripe Checkout is Stripe's prebuilt payment page. Stripe's documentation describes three payment UIs built on the Checkout Sessions API: a full page that can be Stripe-hosted or embedded, an embedded form, and Elements for a fully custom page. The full-page option includes an order summary with tax and shipping, cross-sells and upsells, free trials, discounts and promotion codes, and Stripe rates its ongoing maintenance as low.

The product page lists address auto-complete, real-time card validation, descriptive errors and one-click payment through Link, Stripe's saved-details network, alongside Apple Pay and Google Pay. Checkout supports more than 30 languages and 135 currencies, and localises prices with Adaptive Pricing. Stripe's documentation cites more than 125 local payment methods, including Klarna, Affirm, iDEAL, SEPA Direct Debit and stablecoins.

A Checkout studio provides integration guidance, performance reports and recommendations. Because Checkout runs only on Stripe, it suits buyers who have already chosen Stripe as their processor.

Potential strengths

  • Supports one-time payments and subscriptions in the same checkout
  • Checkout supports 30+ languages and 135+ currencies with Adaptive Pricing
  • Hosted full-page option needs little ongoing maintenance

Trade-offs

  • Tied to Stripe as the payment processor
  • Requires developer work unless a platform plugin already provides it

PayPal Fastlane

enterprisedeveloper.paypal.com ↗
Consider forUS merchants with a meaningful share of guest checkouts that want to recognise returning shoppers and shorten card entry, as PayPal's Fastlane developer documentation describes
Pricing notesPayPal's US merchant fees page does not list a separate Fastlane fee. It lists Advanced Credit and Debit Card Payments at 2.89% + fixed fee and standard PayPal Checkout at 3.49% + fixed fee for domestic transactions. Merchants should confirm which rate applies to Fastlane card payments with PayPal (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateOne-click guest sign-up for faster future checkouts at participating stores

Fastlane is PayPal's accelerated guest checkout. PayPal's developer documentation describes it as recognising customers early in the checkout and letting them buy in seconds, with a single-click sign-up for guests who want faster checkouts at participating stores in future. The product targets the guest checkout, which many merchants keep as the default path for shoppers who do not want to create an account.

Merchants can choose a quick-start integration that drops in a ready-made Fastlane experience or a custom integration that matches their own branding. PayPal states that Fastlane is PCI DSS compliant and accepts all major credit cards. Merchants with an older PayPal checkout integration can upgrade to Fastlane through a documented path, and PayPal publishes sample apps, a video tutorial and an integration guide.

The documentation states that Fastlane is currently available only in the US, which limits it for merchants whose customers are mostly elsewhere. Pricing sits inside PayPal's general merchant fee schedule rather than on a Fastlane-specific page.

Potential strengths

  • Quick-start integration provides a ready-made checkout experience
  • PCI DSS compliant handling of card data

Trade-offs

  • Documented as available only in the US
  • Fastlane-specific pricing is not published separately on the fees page

Checkout.com Flow

enterprisecheckout.com ↗
Consider forMid-market and enterprise merchants processing with Checkout.com that want a single customisable checkout component across web and mobile, as Checkout.com's Flow and pricing pages describe
Pricing notesCheckout.com does not publish rates. Its pricing page offers a fully flat-rate structure priced by business profile and risk category, or interchange++ pricing, with no setup fees and no account maintenance fees; registered charities receive free processing. Plans are quoted through the sales team (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateSmart defaults choose payment methods by location, currency and device

Flow is Checkout.com's prebuilt checkout component for web and mobile apps. Checkout.com describes it as one integration that accepts payments through customisable components, with smart defaults that decide which payment methods to show based on the shopper's location, currency and device. The vendor states these defaults draw on transaction data across its network.

Flow handles payment input collection, field validation and masking, error messages and responsive design, and merchants can change fonts, colours and borders. New payment methods are switched on through configuration rather than code; Checkout.com lists cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Klarna, iDEAL, KNET, Bancontact, Alipay, Tamara, Multibanco, BLIK and Venmo among supported options. Compliance features include PCI DSS alignment and device fingerprinting.

Remember Me, built into Flow, stores payment details so that returning shoppers can check out faster; Checkout.com says enabling it is free for existing Flow users. Flow is offered as web and mobile-native components.

Potential strengths

  • Remember Me saved-details feature is included in Flow at no extra charge
  • Supports 20+ languages, including right-to-left scripts

Trade-offs

  • No published price list
  • Requires Checkout.com as the acquirer and processor

Bolt

mid-marketboltapp.com ↗
Consider forMerchants on Shopify, BigCommerce, Adobe Commerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, WooCommerce or a custom stack that want one-click checkout backed by a cross-merchant shopper account, as Bolt's help centre describes
Pricing notesBolt does not publish pricing. Its help centre directs merchants to account setup and sales contact, so costs are quoted per merchant (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateBolt ID and Check-In provide passwordless sign-in and one-click checkout across merchants

Bolt sells checkout, identity and payments products built around a shopper network. Its help centre lists three checkout options: Managed Checkout, a fully managed checkout and the recommended path; Embedded API, which keeps the merchant's own checkout and adds Bolt's shopper network; and Checkout Everywhere, which uses checkout links and QR codes. The Managed Checkout guide states that Bolt handles the checkout interface, shipping details and payment collection while the merchant keeps the cart, pricing and order records.

The product suite includes Bolt ID for checkout identity, Check-In for passwordless sign-in, Bolt Payments for processing, Custom Payments for processor choice and routing, subscriptions, stablecoin checkout and fully managed fraud with chargeback indemnification. Add-ons cover abandoned cart notifications, order tracking, passkeys and gaming checkout links.

The help centre notes that bolt.com is moving to boltapp.com.

Potential strengths

  • Documented integrations for six commerce platforms plus custom apps
  • Optional fully managed fraud with chargeback indemnification

Trade-offs

  • No public pricing
  • Company website has moved from bolt.com to boltapp.com

Simpler

specialistsimpler.so ↗
Consider forMerchants selling across European markets on WooCommerce, Magento, PrestaShop, OpenCart or CS-Cart that want local payment methods and shipping options in one managed checkout, as Simpler's product and integration pages describe
Pricing notesSimpler charges a platform fee only on volume processed through Simpler: 0.5% below €1M a year, 0.3% from €1M to €10M, 0.25% from €10M to €100M and from 0.1% above €100M. Merchants keep their existing processing rates; third-party method costs such as Bizum, IRIS and Multibanco pass through at cost. A one-month trial carries a 0% platform fee during A/B testing (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateVolume-tiered platform fee with no per-seat pricing or add-on modules

Simpler sells a fully managed checkout engine that sits on top of a merchant's existing store and payment provider. Its product page describes cards, buy now pay later, wallets and local payment methods pre-integrated for each market, shipping options per country, and full localisation in languages including Greek, Spanish, German, Italian, French, Portuguese and Catalan. Payment methods and shipping options are switched on per market from one dashboard.

Simpler states that more than one million shoppers hold a Simpler account with Simpler Coins, a loyalty programme. When those shoppers reach a participating store, checkout is pre-filled and loyalty is applied. The product also includes a cross-sell and upsell engine inside the checkout flow and checkout analytics with funnel, device and new-versus-returning views.

The integrations page lists WooCommerce, Magento, PrestaShop, OpenCart and CS-Cart, plus custom integrations through an API. Simpler's pricing is published as a volume-tiered platform fee, and the vendor offers a free month for A/B testing against the existing checkout.

Potential strengths

  • Published fee tiers by annual volume
  • Local payment methods, carriers and checkout languages pre-integrated per market

Trade-offs

  • Shopify is not among the listed platform integrations
  • The shopper network is smaller and more regional than the US wallet networks on this page

Foxy

smbfoxy.io ↗
Consider forBusinesses with an existing website built on Webflow, a CMS or custom code that want to add a hosted cart, checkout and subscriptions, as Foxy's product and pricing pages describe
Pricing notesStarter costs $30 per month with 100 transactions and 35¢ per additional transaction (1% of sale, minimum 5¢, maximum 35¢). Growth costs $65 per month with 500 transactions and a 25¢ maximum overage. Advanced costs $300 per month with 1,000 transactions and a 7.5¢ maximum overage. Additional portal users cost 10¢ and additional automation runs 5¢. No credit card is required until accepting real payments (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateUnlimited products and subscriptions on every plan, including donations and digital goods

Foxy, also known as Foxy Commerce and formerly FoxyCart, provides a hosted cart and checkout that adds ecommerce to a website a business already runs. Its homepage states that any link, button or form can become a purchase option with a product name and price, and gives examples of merchants using Foxy with Webflow and Carrd. Foxy reports more than $3 billion processed for merchants.

The product handles physical goods, digital downloads, subscriptions, donations, services, tickets, bundles and configurable products with unlimited variant groups and real-time price calculation. Subscriptions accept any frequency with future start and end dates, and subscribers can manage or cancel through a self-service portal. Digital files can be hosted with Foxy, AWS, FetchApp or the merchant's server.

Every plan includes unlimited products and subscriptions, an embeddable user portal, single sign-on and automations that connect to more than 1,000 apps. Growth adds multilingual templates, multi-currency and custom tax endpoints. Pricing scales by included transactions, with overage capped per order.

Potential strengths

  • Works with any website rather than requiring a commerce platform
  • Multi-currency, multilingual templates and custom tax endpoints on Growth and above
  • Embeddable customer portal for order history and subscription management

Trade-offs

  • Overage fees apply beyond each plan's included transactions
  • Template customisation is limited to basic JavaScript, CSS and HTML on Starter

Checkout Champ

mid-marketcheckoutchamp.com ↗
Consider forDirect-to-consumer brands on Shopify or WooCommerce running paid traffic that want custom checkout pages, sales funnels, one-click upsells and subscriptions across many gateways, as Checkout Champ's site and pricing page describe
Pricing notesGrowth costs $300 per month plus 1% and is labelled for start-ups at 50k+ monthly sales. Enterprise costs $300 per month with a scale-based fee reduction and is labelled for 1M+ monthly sales, adding volume discounts and a dedicated client success manager. Gateway processing is billed separately by the chosen processor (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateSubscription billing on any merchant account with no extra fees

Checkout Champ is a checkout and sales funnel platform for performance-driven ecommerce brands. Its site argues that storefronts built for browsing convert paid traffic poorly, and positions its product as a replacement for a store's native checkout and one-click upsells, paired with landing pages for top products. The vendor cites single-step checkouts, one-second page loads and PCI Level 1 certification.

Both plans include unlimited checkouts and funnels managed from one dashboard, customisable checkout pages with A/B split testing, subscription billing on any merchant account, hundreds of integrations and a reporting suite. The pricing FAQ states Checkout Champ integrates with more than 270 gateways and supports Apple Pay, Google Pay and local payment methods where the gateway does, plus buy now pay later through PayPal, Affirm, Afterpay, Klarna and Splitit, with limits on upsells and subscriptions for some providers.

Each account receives an account manager for setup; after 60 days that service continues for an additional monthly charge.

Potential strengths

  • Gateway choice across more than 270 integrations, including NMI, Authorize.net, Stripe, PayPal and Checkout.com
  • Built-in customer portal for subscriptions and repeat purchases

Trade-offs

  • A 1% fee on Growth adds to processing costs
  • Account manager support beyond the 60-day setup period costs extra, according to the FAQ

SamCart

smbsamcart.com ↗
Consider forCreators, coaches and small businesses selling courses, digital products and subscriptions that want checkout pages, upsells and a members area in one tool, as SamCart's pricing page describes
Pricing notesCore costs $79 per month and Pro $199 per month on monthly billing, with 25% off on yearly billing. A custom Done For You plan is quoted by call. SamCart states there are no added processing fees on SamPay; Pro adds API access and third-party processors (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateCheckoutOS checkout bundled with pages, courses, customer portal and cart abandonment

SamCart is a checkout and selling platform aimed at creators and small businesses. The pricing page groups its product into building, selling and growing: an AI assistant drafts ebooks, courses, sales copy and page designs; CheckoutOS provides a mobile-first checkout; and growth tools add upsells, order bumps, affiliates and testing.

Core includes unlimited pages, products and checkouts, the AI assistant, a courses app, cart abandonment, an integration engine and one team seat. Pro adds one-click upsells and order bumps, A/B testing, Subscription Saver for failed payments, an affiliate centre, advanced analytics, API access, third-party processors and ten seats. The custom tier adds white-glove service, a dedicated account manager and unlimited seats.

Every plan supports custom domains, coupons and a customer portal where buyers manage subscriptions and update cards. Potential strengths

  • Unlimited pages, products and checkouts on the entry plan
  • Accepts Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Venmo, cards and buy now pay later

Trade-offs

  • One-click upsells, order bumps and A/B testing require the $199 Pro plan
  • Third-party processors are limited to Pro

ThriveCart

smbthrivecart.com ↗
Consider forSolopreneurs, course creators and community builders selling digital products, memberships and subscriptions who want checkout and course hosting in one subscription, as ThriveCart's site and July 2026 pricing announcement describe
Pricing notesStandard costs $37 per month billed annually or $47 billed monthly and includes a ThriveCart Academy Starter plan. Pro+ costs $67 per month billed annually or $87 billed monthly and includes Academy Growth. Enterprise is priced on application. All new plans include a 30-day free trial, and ThriveCart states 0% fees on sales; payment processor fees apply separately (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluatePro+ adds an affiliate centre, multiple order bumps, dunning and crypto payments

ThriveCart sells checkout pages and sales funnels for creators, with course hosting and communities bundled in. Its homepage cites more than 75,000 sellers and more than $8 billion in revenue processed, and lists digital and physical products, courses, communities, memberships and subscriptions as supported product types, with over 100 payment methods.

In July 2026 ThriveCart moved from a lifetime licence model to monthly subscriptions, according to its announcement. Existing customers keep their current plans. Each subscription now includes a ThriveCart Academy plan for courses and community hosting.

The Pro+ product page lists multiple order bumps, crypto payments, tax-inclusive pricing, sales tax automation, QR codes, coupon analytics, UTM tracking, subscription upgrades and downgrades, dunning and subscription analytics. The announcement adds affiliate management and joint-venture contracts to Pro+. ThriveCart connects to email platforms through integrations rather than providing its own email tool. It fits sellers of information products better than retailers with large catalogues.

Potential strengths

  • No platform fee on sales
  • Course hosting and community included with every licence

Trade-offs

  • Affiliate management and subscription dunning require Pro+
  • Email marketing needs a separate integration

How to choose a vendor

Separate the checkout fee from the processing fee

Checkout products charge in three different ways. Stripe, PayPal, Shopify and Checkout.com bundle checkout into card processing rates. Simpler charges a platform fee as a percentage of volume on top of existing processing costs. Foxy, Checkout Champ, SamCart and ThriveCart charge a monthly subscription, sometimes with a per-transaction or percentage fee, and the merchant still pays a gateway. A buyer should price the same monthly order count and average order value across every shortlisted option, including the gateway.

Check platform compatibility before anything else

Shop Pay is automatic on stores that use Shopify Payments. Bolt documents integrations for Shopify, BigCommerce, Adobe Commerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, WooCommerce and Volusion. Simpler lists WooCommerce, Magento, PrestaShop, OpenCart and CS-Cart. Foxy, SamCart and ThriveCart work with any website through hosted pages, links or embeds. Stripe Checkout and Checkout.com Flow require developer integration unless a platform plugin already exists.

Decide whether a shopper network matters

Shop Pay, Bolt, Simpler, PayPal Fastlane and Stripe's Link recognise returning shoppers who saved details with the network at another merchant, which shortens checkout for those shoppers. The benefit depends on how many of a store's customers already hold such an account, which varies by country. Fastlane is documented as US-only, Simpler lists European languages and euro-denominated fee tiers, and Bolt cites a US shopper network.

Frequently asked questions

What is an ecommerce checkout solution?

An ecommerce checkout solution is the software that runs the final steps of an online purchase: collecting contact, shipping and payment details, calculating totals and submitting the payment. Some products are built into a commerce platform, such as Shopify Checkout. Others are payment-company components such as Stripe Checkout, one-click networks such as Bolt and Simpler, or hosted carts and funnels such as Foxy, SamCart and ThriveCart.

How is a checkout solution different from a payment gateway?

A payment gateway authorises and settles the card or wallet transaction. A checkout solution is the shopper-facing page or component that collects details and passes them to a gateway. Some vendors sell both, such as Stripe, PayPal and Checkout.com. Others, such as Checkout Champ, Foxy and Simpler, work on top of one or more gateways that the merchant chooses.

How much do ecommerce checkout solutions cost?

Prices checked in October 2026 vary by model. Stripe lists 2.9% + 30¢ per domestic card transaction with checkout included. Shopify plans start at $29 per month billed yearly. Simpler charges 0.1% to 0.5% of volume through its checkout. Foxy starts at $30 per month, SamCart at $79, ThriveCart at $37 billed annually and Checkout Champ at $300 per month plus 1%. Bolt and Checkout.com quote prices.

What is one-click or accelerated checkout?

Accelerated checkout lets a returning shopper pay without retyping details, because a network has stored their address and payment method. Shop Pay, Stripe's Link, PayPal Fastlane, Bolt and Simpler each run such a network. The benefit depends on how many of a store's shoppers already have an account with that network, which differs by country and audience.

Which checkout solutions work outside Shopify?

Bolt documents integrations for BigCommerce, Adobe Commerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, WooCommerce and Volusion as well as Shopify. Simpler lists WooCommerce, Magento, PrestaShop, OpenCart and CS-Cart. Foxy, SamCart and ThriveCart work on any website through hosted pages or embeds. Stripe Checkout, PayPal Fastlane and Checkout.com Flow integrate with custom sites and through platform plugins.

Which options suit selling courses and digital products?

SamCart and ThriveCart are built around digital products, courses and subscriptions, and both include course hosting. Foxy handles digital downloads, subscriptions and donations on an existing website. Stripe Checkout supports one-time and subscription payments and suits teams with developer resources. Checkout Champ targets physical-product brands running paid traffic and upsell funnels.

Can a checkout solution be tested before switching fully?

Several vendors document trials. Simpler offers one month with a 0% platform fee while a merchant A/B tests against the existing checkout. ThriveCart offers a 30-day free trial on new plans, and Foxy does not require a card until real payments are accepted. Checkout Champ includes A/B split testing of checkout pages, and SamCart includes A/B testing on Pro.

How was this comparison compiled?

StatWharf Editorial compared ten checkout products using each vendor's public product, documentation and pricing pages, plus ThriveCart's July 2026 pricing announcement, checked on 15 October 2026. No product was tested hands-on, and no vendor reviewed or confirmed its entry. Conversion figures quoted on vendor sites were not verified. The order is not a ranking.
