These comparisons draw on public product information, not hands-on testing of every tool. Source records identify available references and checks; missing evidence is marked. Buyer fit is an editorial assessment, not a measured performance score. How to use this research.
Cloud security posture management tools watch cloud accounts for risky configurations, such as storage open to the internet, unencrypted databases or identities with more access than they need, and report compliance against security frameworks. Buyers search for the category as CSPM tools, CSPM software or cloud posture management. Most vendors now sell CSPM as one module of a cloud-native application protection platform, and this page compares the posture capability within those platforms.
The nine tools compared here fall into three groups. Wiz, Orca Security, Cortex Cloud, Tenable One Cloud Exposure and SentinelOne Singularity Cloud Native Security are CNAPPs priced by quote. CrowdStrike Falcon Cloud Security and Fortinet FortiCNAPP extend endpoint and network security platforms into the cloud. Microsoft Defender for Cloud and Prowler publish prices and offer free entry points. All pricing notes were checked in October 2026. Every entry has a dated source check, so the order follows content sequence. That order is not a measure of product quality or a ranking.

Tenable One Cloud Exposure is Tenable's cloud-native application protection platform, positioned as part of the Tenable One exposure management platform. It aims to unify hybrid and multi-cloud security and to reveal toxic combinations of misconfigurations, vulnerabilities, identities and sensitive data.
The CSPM capability discovers assets automatically, detects misconfigurations in real time and maps the cloud attack surface for continuous compliance. Tenable puts unusual weight on identity. Its CIEM module visualises access paths and enforces least privilege, and Tenable Just-in-Time Access grants time-limited permissions so that users do not hold standing privileges that an attacker could reuse.
Workload protection scans containers, Kubernetes and serverless functions for vulnerabilities and malware from build to runtime. Data security posture management discovers sensitive data and AI assets and identifies over-privileged AI identities and exposed training buckets. Attack path analysis and cloud detection and response complete the platform. Tenable also appears on the vulnerability management and DAST tools pages.

Singularity Cloud Native Security is SentinelOne's agentless cloud and AI security product. It combines CSPM, CIEM, data security posture management, AI security posture management, infrastructure as code scanning and secrets scanning in one console, and covers multi-cloud and CI/CD environments.
Its distinguishing feature is the Offensive Security Engine, which imitates an outside attacker to check which exposures are actually exploitable rather than theoretically vulnerable. Attack Path Analysis then links exposures into complete chains from initial access to critical assets, and DSPM shows whether sensitive data sits in the blast radius. SentinelOne states that this evidence-based approach improves analyst efficiency by up to 66%.
Findings feed SentinelOne's AI-native data lake for correlation with endpoint, identity and third-party signals. Purple AI, SentinelOne's assistant, generates attack stories in natural language. Hyperautomation workflows route misconfigurations and policy violations into remediation. Buyers who also want runtime protection can pair the product with SentinelOne's cloud workload security.

Frequently asked questions
What is cloud security posture management?
Cloud security posture management (CSPM) continuously checks the configuration of cloud resources against security best practices and compliance frameworks. A CSPM tool connects to accounts such as AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, builds an inventory, flags misconfigurations such as public storage or over-permissive access, and reports compliance with standards such as CIS Benchmarks, PCI DSS and HIPAA.
What is the difference between CSPM and CNAPP?
CSPM covers configuration and compliance. A cloud-native application protection platform (CNAPP) bundles CSPM with workload vulnerability scanning, identity entitlement management, data security posture management and runtime threat detection. Wiz, Orca, Cortex Cloud, Tenable, CrowdStrike, SentinelOne and FortiCNAPP all sell CSPM inside a CNAPP. Prowler and Microsoft's free Foundational CSPM tier focus on posture checks.
Are there free CSPM tools?
Yes. Microsoft Defender for Cloud includes Foundational CSPM at no cost, with recommendations, Secure Score and the Microsoft cloud security benchmark across Azure, AWS and Google Cloud. Prowler Open Source, including its CLI and self-hosted Local Server, is free under the Apache-2.0 licence. Prowler Cloud also offers a 7-day free trial.
How much do CSPM tools cost?
Only two vendors here publish figures. Prowler Cloud costs $99 per cloud account per month, with 20% off annual billing. Microsoft's Defender CSPM costs $0.006849 per billable resource per hour, about $5 per resource per month. Wiz, Orca, Cortex Cloud, Tenable, CrowdStrike and SentinelOne quote on request, and FortiCNAPP is licensed by protected resource with a 250-resource minimum.
Do CSPM tools need agents?
Posture checks normally use read-only API access and need no agents. Wiz, Orca, Prowler, SentinelOne and Microsoft's agentless scanning work this way. Agents or sensors are used for runtime threat detection on workloads: CrowdStrike uses the Falcon sensor, Orca offers the Orca Sensor, and Cortex Cloud and FortiCNAPP add agents for runtime protection.
Which CSPM tools support multiple clouds?
All nine tools here support multi-cloud estates. Cortex Cloud lists AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud and Alibaba Cloud. Prowler supports the widest list of providers, including Oracle Cloud, Alibaba Cloud, Cloudflare, Microsoft 365, GitHub and Kubernetes, though several are available only in its CLI. Microsoft covers on-premises servers through Azure Arc.
Which compliance frameworks do CSPM tools check?
Most check CIS Benchmarks, PCI DSS, HIPAA, NIST and SOC 2. Built-in framework counts differ: Wiz lists more than 250, Orca more than 150, Prowler more than 70 and Cortex Cloud more than 18. Microsoft's regulatory compliance assessments require the paid Defender CSPM plan. Several tools also support custom frameworks.
