Best Scholarship Management Software (2026): Top 10 Compared

Updated October 2026By StatWharf Editorial10 vendorsMethodology

Scholarship management software replaces emailed forms and spreadsheets with an online application portal, eligibility matching, committee review, award tracking and donor reporting. The ten products below fall into three groups. AwardSpring, Blackbaud Award Management (formerly AcademicWorks) and Kaleidoscope are built around scholarships, with AwardSpring and Blackbaud aimed mainly at colleges and universities. Foundant Scholarship Lifecycle Manager and CommunityForce serve foundations and institutions that run many named funds and multi-year renewals. Submittable, SurveyMonkey Apply, SmarterSelect, Good Grants and Reviewr are general application and review platforms that run scholarships alongside grants, awards and fellowships. Only Good Grants publishes plan prices; every other vendor quotes.

These comparisons draw on public product information, not hands-on testing of every tool. Source records identify available references and checks; missing evidence is marked. Buyer fit is an editorial assessment, not a measured performance score. How to use this research.

Scholarship management software moves a scholarship programme from emailed forms and spreadsheets to one online system. Students apply through a portal, eligibility rules or matching route them to the right funds, committees score applications online, and staff issue award letters, track payments and report back to donors. Colleges, community foundations, corporate foundations and associations are the main buyers.

The comparison below covers ten products. Features and pricing come from each vendor’s product, scholarship and pricing pages, checked in October 2026. Pricing is mostly private: Good Grants is the only vendor that publishes plan prices, SmarterSelect publishes its user bands and terms, and the rest quote. Two names buyers still search for have changed hands. AcademicWorks is now Blackbaud Award Management, and WizeHive, maker of Zengine, is part of Submittable.

A related page covers nonprofit fundraising software.

AwardSpring

mid-marketawardspring.com ↗
Consider forColleges, universities and foundations that award many named, endowed and annual funds and want scholarship selection linked to donor stewardship, as the product pages describe

Feature to evaluateA single universal application is matched automatically to every fund a student qualifies for, with fund utilisation tracked against what remains unawarded

AwardSpring, operated by Chicago-based Scholarship Solutions, LLC, sells what it calls a Fund Platform made of four products. Scholarship Management covers fund setup with restrictions and award history, application workflows, committee scoring, award notifications, disbursement scheduling and an audit trail of decisions. Donor Management is a CRM for gift officers with newsletters, events, online fundraising and SMS. Donor Experience gives each donor a portal and stewardship content about the students a gift supported. Fund Management, for balance tracking and UPMIFA compliance, is marked as coming in fall 2026.

The scholarship product relies on a universal application that matches each student to eligible funds, and a monitoring view that flags funds trending toward going unawarded before year-end. SpringIQ, the vendor's AI layer, handles matching and screening. The vendor states that more than 600 organisations use AwardSpring, a vendor claim.

AwardSpring fits institutions that see scholarship awarding and donor stewardship as one workflow.

Potential strengths

Blackbaud Award Management

Pricing notesQuote-based: the product page offers Ask About Pricing and a demo request, and lists no plan prices (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateStudents see a personalised list of scholarships they match, built from nightly imports of student information system data

Blackbaud Award Management is the scholarship product Blackbaud gained when it acquired AcademicWorks, announced on 3 April 2017. The academicworks.com domain now redirects to the Blackbaud Award Management product page, so buyers searching for AcademicWorks reach the same product. Many institutions still run student-facing portals on academicworks.com subdomains.

The product page positions it for colleges and universities. Students get a personalised view of awards with automatic matching and recommendations, fed by nightly imports from the student information system. Committees review online with flexible permissions, renewable awards re-check requirements year over year, and single sign-on covers all of an institution's applications. On the donor side, the page lists editable digital thank-you letters, donor reports in print, email or online, and online donor profiles. The vendor states its users award more than $3 billion in scholarship funds annually, a vendor claim.

It fits campuses already using Blackbaud for advancement.

Potential strengths

  • Donor thank-you letters, donor reports and online donor profiles are built in
  • A free connector from partner Red Arc shows award activity inside Raiser's Edge NXT

Trade-offs

  • No prices are published
  • The product page is written for higher education, so foundations need to confirm fit in a demo

Submittable

mid-marketsubmittable.com ↗
Consider forUniversities, private institutions and foundations that want scholarship and fellowship programmes on the same platform as grants, employee giving or volunteering, as the solution pages describe
Pricing notesQuote-based: the pricing page lists a Grant & Application Management package, a Corporate Social Responsibility platform and an Enterprise tier, each with a Book a Meeting button and no figures; products can be bought individually or bundled (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateFunds can be disbursed to scholars and fellows from the same system that collects and reviews their applications

Submittable sells grant and application management software and a corporate social responsibility platform. Its scholarship solution page covers a drag-and-drop form builder for branded, mobile-friendly portals, a reviewer portal with roles, comments and tasks, anonymisation and permission tools to reduce bias, dashboards and impact reporting, and funds tracking with direct disbursement. Application forms autosave and support group submissions.

On 8 August 2024 Submittable announced its acquisition of WizeHive, maker of the Zengine grants and scholarship platform, together with WizeHive's Bright Funds and WeHero brands. The wizehive.com domain now redirects to submittable.com, and the announcement states that existing contracts would be honoured while the companies work toward one grants product. Buyers who know Zengine should treat Submittable as its successor and ask about migration.

The vendor states it has supported more than 165,000 programmes, a vendor claim. Submittable fits organisations that award scholarships alongside other funding.

Potential strengths

  • Anonymisation and permission controls are documented for bias-reduced review
  • Scholarships, grants and CSR programmes can share one vendor

Trade-offs

  • No prices are published
  • Former WizeHive and Zengine customers face a product consolidation the vendor has said it is still working through

Foundant Scholarship Lifecycle Manager

specialistfoundant.com ↗
Consider forCommunity foundations, education foundations and other scholarship providers that need application, review, award, payment coordination and outcome reporting in one system, as the product page describes
Pricing notesQuote-based: the product page offers a Request pricing form and a demo, and lists no plan prices (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateEligibility quizzes, access codes and a Universal Application route students to eligible funds before reviewers spend time on them

Foundant Scholarship Lifecycle Manager (SLM) is a cloud platform for the full award cycle, aimed at community foundations, education foundations and scholarship providers. The product page lists application creation and online review with sorting and scoring, a student self-service portal, third-party recommendations and transcripts, a report builder, automated emails and notifications, outcome measurement tied to the original application, matching criteria and customisable forms with branching and table questions.

The Universal Application is the central feature: one form filters each applicant to only the scholarships they are eligible for. A separate education foundation page describes pairing SLM with Community Suite for fund accounting, endowment allocations, online giving and donor CRM, with Salesforce available as an add-on.

The vendor states more than 660 scholarship provider clients and a 96% renewal rate, both vendor claims. SLM fits foundations that hold many donor-advised or named scholarship funds.

Potential strengths

  • Recommendation letters and transcripts arrive inside the system rather than by email
  • Integrates with Foundant's Community Suite for fund accounting at education foundations

Trade-offs

  • No prices are published
  • Salesforce CRM integration is described as an add-on

Feature to evaluateEvery plan includes unlimited programmes, reports and exports, and subscriptions run one year at a time

SmarterSelect sells an application management system for scholarships, grants, recognition awards and other programmes. Plans differ by annual user count and feature level. Create covers 500 users a year with online evaluation, applicant pre-qualification, email reminders, online recommendations, app rules, calculations and autoscoring. Enhance raises the limit to 2,500 users and adds scholarship matching and AI detection. Enterprise covers 10,000 users and adds award tracking, single sign-on, global SMS and integrations with Salesforce and other apps through Zapier.

The pricing FAQ defines a user as anyone who logs in during the subscription year, including admins, evaluators and applicants who did not finish. An applicant who applies to several programmes counts once. Billing is annual and upfront, renews automatically and can be cancelled at renewal. The vendor states more than 90% of customers are nonprofits. SmarterSelect fits smaller organisations that want plain annual terms.

Potential strengths

  • The pricing page documents user definitions, billing, cancellation and support hours in detail
  • No setup, maintenance or support fees are charged, according to the pricing FAQ

Trade-offs

  • Plan figures are not shown on the page
  • Incomplete applicants count toward the annual user total

CommunityForce

enterprisecommunityforce.com ↗
Consider forUniversities, community foundations and corporate foundations running high-volume scholarship cycles with renewals, GPA tracking and financial aid links, as the scholarship page describes
Pricing notesQuote-based: the site has no pricing page (the /pricing address returns not found) and directs buyers to book a demo or talk to an expert (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateMulti-year awards are carried across academic years, with renewal conditions such as minimum GPA enforced automatically

CommunityForce sells awards management software covering grants, scholarships, fellowships, research funding and government programmes. Its scholarship page describes application forms with automated eligibility screening, multi-reviewer workflows with blind review and scoring rubrics, award letters and acceptance tracking, disbursement and budget tracking with financial aid and accounting integration, and donor stewardship reports.

Renewals are its most specific scholarship feature. Renewal workflows collect progress reports each term, verify GPA against a set minimum and carry each award across the years it runs. Phoenix Copilot, the vendor's AI assistant, answers questions such as how many applications remain unreviewed and can propose reviewer rebalancing, with the award decision left to the committee.

The vendor states more than 200 organisations and over $569 million awarded through the platform, both vendor claims. CommunityForce fits large programmes with multi-year awards.

Potential strengths

  • Blind review, scoring rubrics and committee workflows are documented
  • The vendor lists FedRAMP certification, SOC 2 Type II and Section 508 accessibility

Reviewr

smbreviewr.com ↗
Consider forNonprofits, foundations, associations and academic institutions running scholarships, awards or fellowships that want a single scoped annual price, as the pricing page describes
Pricing notesQuote-based: the pricing page states there is no price list; after a scoping call the vendor gives one annual figure covering all reviewers, applicants and review rounds, payable in full or as a base amount plus monthly payments, with invoicing and purchase orders matched to the buyer's budget cycle (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateThe quoted annual figure does not change when users are added or application volume doubles, according to the pricing page

Reviewr sells submission and review software for scholarships, grants, recognition awards, leadership academies, competitions and fellowships. Platform pages cover an applicant portal, review and selection with blind review and structured scoring, AI tools, post-award management, integrations, forms, analytics and user permissions.

The pricing page explains why no price list is published. The vendor scopes each programme on a call, writes back the challenges it heard, agrees a one-page action plan with goals and a launch date, and then gives one annual figure. That figure covers every reviewer, applicant and review round in scope and does not include per-user, per-programme or second-round charges. Payment can be made in full or as a base amount with monthly instalments, timed to the buyer's budget cycle.

Reviewr fits programmes whose size or complexity makes per-applicant price bands a poor match.

Potential strengths

  • The pricing page explains exactly how a quote is built
  • Support is not sold as a block of hours

Trade-offs

  • No starting price is published, so budgeting requires a scoping call
  • Scope set at signing defines what the annual figure covers

How to choose a vendor

Count applicants, not staff

Most vendors size plans by applicant volume rather than by administrator seats. SmarterSelect counts every user who logs in during the subscription year, including incomplete applicants, in bands of 500, 2,500 and 10,000. SurveyMonkey Apply caps applicants at 1,000 or 5,000 per plan, and Good Grants allows up to 10,000 applications on its published plans. A buyer should estimate peak applicants, including students who start but do not finish, before asking for quotes.

Decide whether one universal application is needed

Institutions with dozens or hundreds of named funds benefit from a single application that matches each student to every fund the student qualifies for. AwardSpring, Blackbaud Award Management, Foundant, SurveyMonkey Apply and SmarterSelect all document matching or a common application. Organisations running one or two scholarships may not need this and can compare simpler form-and-review tools on price.

Check the student information system and donor links

Colleges usually need nightly student data from the SIS and award data in the advancement CRM. AwardSpring documents integrations with Banner, Colleague and Workday, Blackbaud documents nightly SIS imports and a free Raiser's Edge NXT connector from partner Red Arc, and CommunityForce describes financial aid integration. Foundations should instead ask how the product links to their fund accounting and donor records.

Frequently asked questions

What is scholarship management software?

Scholarship management software runs the scholarship cycle online. Students apply through a portal, the system checks eligibility or matches them to funds they qualify for, committees score applications, and administrators send award letters, track disbursement and report to donors. Most products also collect recommendation letters, transcripts and thank-you letters, and some track multi-year renewals.

How much does scholarship management software cost?

Only one of the ten vendors publishes plan prices as of October 2026. Good Grants lists Intro at USD 3,950 a year and Premium at USD 7,900 a year. SmarterSelect publishes its user bands and terms but supplies prices on request. AwardSpring, Blackbaud, Submittable, Foundant, SurveyMonkey Apply, Kaleidoscope, CommunityForce and Reviewr quote after a demo or scoping call.

Is pricing based on applicants, users or programmes?

It varies. SmarterSelect counts every user who logs in during the year, including applicants. SurveyMonkey Apply caps applicants and programmes per plan. Good Grants caps applications and forms but not users. AwardSpring states no per-seat fees, and Reviewr gives one annual figure that does not change with users or application volume.

What happened to AcademicWorks?

Blackbaud announced its acquisition of AcademicWorks on 3 April 2017. The product is now sold as Blackbaud Award Management, and academicworks.com redirects to the Blackbaud product page. Many colleges still host student scholarship portals on academicworks.com subdomains.

What happened to WizeHive and Zengine?

Submittable announced its acquisition of WizeHive, the company behind the Zengine platform, on 8 August 2024, along with WizeHive's Bright Funds and WeHero brands. The wizehive.com domain now redirects to submittable.com. The announcement said existing contracts would be honoured while the companies moved toward a single grants management product.

Which products suit colleges and universities?

AwardSpring and Blackbaud Award Management are written mainly for higher education. AwardSpring documents integrations with Banner, Colleague and Workday, and Blackbaud documents nightly SIS imports and a Raiser's Edge NXT connector. CommunityForce and SurveyMonkey Apply also name universities, and Foundant has a page for education foundations attached to colleges.

Which products suit community foundations?

Foundant Scholarship Lifecycle Manager is aimed at community foundations, education foundations and scholarship providers, and pairs with Foundant's fund accounting. Kaleidoscope names community, corporate and family foundations, and CommunityForce describes multiple donor funds with endowment tracking. Good Grants and SmarterSelect suit smaller foundations that want simpler terms.

How was this comparison compiled?

Each vendor's product, scholarship and pricing pages were read on 7 October 2026, and pricing notes record what those pages showed on that date. The comparison uses published information only. The products were not used or tested, and no vendor confirmed its entry. All ten entries have dated source checks, and their order does not rank product quality.
