Best Cloud Payroll Software India (2026): Top 10 Compared
Indian payroll is a compliance problem before it is a payments problem. A pay run has to apply provident fund, employees' state insurance, state professional tax and tax deducted at source, then produce the challans and quarterly statements that follow. The ten products below split into three shapes. Self-serve platforms (Zoho Payroll, Kredily, RazorpayX Payroll) publish a rate card, bundle a starting headcount and charge per employee above it. Full-suite Indian platforms (greytHR, Pocket HRMS, Keka, factoHR) sell payroll inside core HR, attendance and leave, and meter mainly by employee count. Enterprise suites (Darwinbox, PeopleStrong, Ramco Payce) quote after a conversation and sell multi-entity or multi-country scope. Six of the ten publish a figure on their own site.
Order is not a ranking. How entries are ordered.

These comparisons draw on public product information, not hands-on testing of every tool. Source records identify available references and checks; missing evidence is marked. Buyer fit is an editorial assessment, not a measured performance score. How to use this research.
Indian payroll carries a statutory load that a general payroll product does not cover. A single monthly run applies provident fund with electronic challan-cum-return generation, employees’ state insurance with its own challans, professional tax under rules that differ by state, and tax deducted at source that has to reconcile into quarterly Form 24Q and an annual Form 16. Multiple states or multiple legal entities multiply that work rather than adding to it.
The ten cloud products compared below approach that load from different directions, and their pricing models differ as much as their features. Prices are stated from each vendor’s own page where they are published, with the month of the check recorded, and marked as unpublished where no figure exists.
Vendor details and trade-offs
Zoho Payroll is the India-specific payroll product in the Zoho suite, sold from a pricing page that states every meter in the open. The free tier is the unusual part: ₹0 for up to ten employees, with automatic payroll calculation, payslip generation, income tax, EPF, ESI, statewise professional tax and labour welfare fund handling, the automatic TDS worksheet, the employee self-service portal and more than 40 built-in reports.
The compliance claim on the product page is stated by scope rather than by adjective: tax forms 12BB, 24Q, TDS and Form 16 with built-in e-signature, and professional tax across 28 states. Integrations run to Zoho Books, Zoho People and Zoho Expense.
Potential strengths
- Every plan boundary is published, including the included headcount and the per-employee rate above it, so a twelve-month total can be modelled without contacting sales
- Statutory coverage is stated across 28 states for professional tax, alongside EPF, ESI and labour welfare fund
Trade-offs
- Leave and attendance are built in only on the Premium plan, so a company needing both pays the top tier
- Online salary payment is tied to named banks, HSBC on the free plan and ICICI Bank from Standard upward
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Per organisation per month, billed monthly or annually, with a per-additional-employee rate above the included headcount
- Source review: checked Sep 23, 2026

Kredily sells an India payroll and HR platform on a free-first model, and the pricing page is explicit about what the free tier does and does not do. Free Forever is ₹0 a month for unlimited employees and covers payroll, core HR, attendance and leave, PF, ESI, professional tax and TDS statutory calculation, employee self-service, the mobile app and web clock-in attendance. The page attaches an active usage policy to that offer.
Three attendance add-ons are priced separately at ₹50 per user per month each: Klocky zero-touch attendance, Live Tracking for Android, and KredEYE face recognition.
Potential strengths
- The published comparison grid states exactly which features the free tier excludes, including salary payout, challans, Form 16 and analytics
- Paid add-ons are individually priced at ₹50 per user per month, so attendance automation can be costed line by line
Trade-offs
- Data storage is capped at 250 MB on both Free Forever and Payroll OS, with unlimited storage only from Professional
- Exit settlements and exit management appear on the Enterprise tier alone, which is quoted rather than published
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Per month with a bundled 25-employee allowance on paid plans and a per-active-employee rate above it
- Source review: checked Sep 23, 2026
- Vendor confirmation: not confirmed
RazorpayX Payroll is the payroll product inside Razorpay's business banking suite, and its position is disbursement-led: salary payments, statutory payments and filings run through the same rails the company already uses for payouts. The pricing page states three tiers and marks feature availability per tier in a grid.
The grid is more informative than most. Basic payroll, payslip generation, direct salary payment, one-time payments, salary adjustment, the salary register and compliance calculation, payments and filings are shown on all three tiers. Advanced payroll, expense management, support and integrations carry Limited markers on PRIME. Time and attendance and employee delight are shown unavailable on both PRIME and ELITE.
Potential strengths
- The pricing table states the employee ceiling for each tier, 20 on PRIME and 100 on ELITE, so the upgrade point is known in advance
- GST is disclosed on the pricing page itself, which makes the stated figure straightforward to convert into a landed cost
Trade-offs
- Time and attendance is marked unavailable on PRIME and ELITE, so attendance data has to come from elsewhere
- The product is capped at 100 employees before the quoted Enterprise tier, which limits how far a growing company can run on published pricing
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Monthly charges shown under annual or semi-annual terms, plus 18 percent GST
- Source review: checked Sep 23, 2026

greytHR is a long-established Indian payroll and HR platform, and the pricing page is structured around a base price with an employee allowance rather than a flat per-seat rate. Essential is ₹2,495 a month covering payroll, leave and basic core HR for 50 employees, with ₹45 for each employee above that. Growth is ₹4,495 a month for the same 50-employee allowance with ₹85 above, and adds advanced attendance and shift management, overtime, permissions, geo-fencing and confirmation workflow. Premium is quoted and described as all modules included.
The payroll page is unusually specific about statutory output. It names PF calculations with ECR generation, ESI computations and challans, professional tax with state-specific rules built in, comprehensive TDS calculations with eTDS returns, one-click Form 24Q generation with automatic FVU validation, and digitally signed Form 16 and 12BA.
Potential strengths
- Every add-on carries a published per-user rate, so a configuration beyond the base plan can be priced without a quote
- The payroll page names the statutory artefacts produced rather than claiming compliance generally, down to Form 16 and 12BA with digital signature
Trade-offs
- Attendance and shift management sit in Growth, so an Essential buyer that needs attendance pays the higher base price
- Single sign-on, multi-company support and API access are add-ons on Essential and Growth rather than included features
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Monthly base price including 50 employees, plus a per-employee rate above 50 and separately priced add-ons
- Source review: checked Sep 23, 2026
- Vendor confirmation: not confirmed
Pocket HRMS sells an India-focused HRMS with payroll at its centre, and publishes two of its three tiers. Standard is ₹2,995 per month billed annually for 50 employees with ₹60 for each additional employee, and covers leave management, geo-tagging, flexible attendance, payroll processing, the self-service portal, automated taxes and compliance, HRIS and a data import wizard. Professional is ₹4,495 per month billed annually on the same 50-employee base with ₹90 for each additional employee.
Add-on modules are listed separately and cover expense and traveldesk, geo-tracking, timesheet, survey, helpdesk, recruitment, learning, WhatsApp approvals and payslip delivery, and performance management with 360-degree appraisals.
Potential strengths
- Both paid tiers publish the bundled headcount and the per-additional-employee rate, which makes a two-year projection straightforward
- Add-ons cover expense and traveldesk, geo-tracking, timesheet, survey, helpdesk, recruitment, learning, WhatsApp and performance as separate modules
Trade-offs
- The published figures are billed annually, so a buyer wanting monthly terms has no stated rate
- The Premium tier states a minimum subscription of 100-plus employees, which rules it out for smaller companies needing its integrations
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Monthly price billed annually including 50 employees, plus a per-additional-employee rate
- Source review: checked Sep 23, 2026

Keka sells payroll as part of an HR platform rather than as a standalone product, and its payroll page describes the run as four steps: import employee data, calculate salaries, benefits, deductions and statutory taxes, disburse in one click, and auto-file compliance reports. Statutory coverage is named as PF, ESIC, TDS and professional tax, with ECR, 24Q and 26Q reports generated and challans made ready for filing.
Integration is the argument the product makes most often. Attendance, leave and workforce modules sync into payroll without manual entry, API connectivity is offered for third-party tools, and accounting exports are listed for Tally, QuickBooks, Zoho Books and SAP. Multi-entity, branch and pay-group processing is stated, along with salary revisions, arrears tracking and off-cycle or bulk payouts.
Potential strengths
- The per-additional-employee rate is published for all three tiers, which fixes the marginal cost of headcount growth
- Payroll draws from attendance, leave and workforce modules through pre-built sync rather than an import step
Trade-offs
- The base price of each plan renders client-side, so the total cost cannot be read from the page without using the selector
- The three tiers are built around broader HR and engagement features, so a payroll-only buyer pays for modules it may not use
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Per additional employee per month above a plan base figure that is not stated in the page source
- Source review: checked Sep 23, 2026

factoHR sells an India payroll and HR platform and states 4,000-plus businesses and 2.7 million employees managed, with ISO 27001 and SOC 2 certification and a stated seven-day go-live. The payroll page frames the problem in hours: HR and payroll teams spending eight to twelve hours a month on manual salary processing, compliance filing and error correction.
The functional claims are specific to Indian statutory work. Built-in compliance management covers TDS, PF, professional tax and ESIC with audit-ready reports, challans and Form 16. Arrears and salary revisions are processed back-dated, and leave and attendance reconcile into payroll from the attendance module. Payroll data is centralised across locations, which matters for the multi-state professional tax problem.
Potential strengths
- The module ladder is published in full, so a buyer can see exactly which tier introduces payroll, expense, geo-fence and performance
- Multiple entity management appears in the core plan rather than only at the top tier
Trade-offs
- No rupee figure appears at any plan tier, so the headline cost still requires a sales conversation
- Add-on prices are quoted in US dollars on an India-focused page, which leaves the rupee amount subject to conversion
- Product reference
- Pricing source
- Billing terms: Not recorded for plans; add-ons stated per month, per user or per recruiter in US dollars
- Source review: checked Sep 23, 2026
- Vendor confirmation: not confirmed
Darwinbox is an Indian-headquartered HCM platform used by large enterprises, and its India Payroll page positions the product as an end-to-end online payroll run for India rather than a module bolted onto core HR. The company states more than 900 enterprise customers across 130 countries and 1.2 million payslips processed monthly across geographies.
The payroll argument centres on a documented four-step framework covering review, initiate, verify and e-approve, and release and report. The stated purpose is to remove the manual reconciliation and offline approval chains that sit between HR, finance and payroll teams, replacing them with a single dashboard carrying live payroll and HR inputs, in-flow reconciliation, variance analysis and e-verification. Audit trails, data control and approval tracking are stated as part of the same framework.
For India specifically, the company describes statutory reporting including TDS, ECIS and PF ECR arrears, and filing of monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual returns. Deployment is offered in more than one shape, spanning a lighter payroll option, a self-run configuration and managed services, so the operating model is part of the buying decision rather than fixed.
Potential strengths
- Payroll sits on the same platform as core HR and workforce management, so inputs flow without an integration layer
- Deployment options span a lighter payroll product, a self-run configuration and managed services, which suits varied internal payroll capacity
Trade-offs
- No price is published anywhere on the product pages, so cost cannot be estimated before contacting sales
- The platform is positioned for large enterprises, which makes it a heavy fit for a company running payroll for a few hundred employees

- Product documentation

PeopleStrong is an Asian HCM vendor with a payroll product built for enterprise scale in India. The payroll page organises its claims around five areas: processing, unified payroll and HR, employee experience, configurability and compliance, and analytics.
Processing covers automated workflows for common payroll tasks, bulk transactions, an Ask Me helpdesk and automated pro-rata salary calculation. The unified section describes leave, attendance and shift data feeding payroll automatically, with consolidated reporting. Employee-facing functions include round-the-clock payslip and payroll access on mobile, bill scanning for reimbursement, and natural language query handling.
Configurability and compliance is the section that matters most for a large Indian employer: multiple salary structures, pay periods, payslip formats and approval mechanisms, a complete audit trail with an automated maker-checker process, and automatic calculation of TDS, EPF, ESI and other statutory figures. Analytics is stated as a custom report builder covering variance and income tax declaration reports, more than 350 pre-defined reports and configurable dashboards. The company separately offers payroll outsourcing alongside the platform.
Potential strengths
- Configurability is stated concretely: multiple salary structures, pay periods, payslip formats and approval mechanisms in one tenant
- A complete audit trail with an automated maker-checker process is documented, which suits regulated employers
Trade-offs
- No price appears on the payroll page, so neither the platform nor the outsourcing option can be budgeted in advance
- The platform is aimed at large enterprises across Asia, so a single-country mid-sized buyer may pay for scope it does not need
- Product reference
- Product documentation
- Billing terms: Not recorded

Ramco Payce is the payroll platform from Ramco Systems, an Indian enterprise software company, and it is sold on multi-country scope rather than India alone. The published figures are operational: 500-plus customers, 150-plus countries and 36 million payslips a year, with a stated 25 years of payroll work across more than 40 industry verticals.
The technical claims centre on speed and error detection. Ramco states that the in-memory engine processes 100 million payroll records in 30 minutes, and that an anomaly and reasoning engine reduces hundreds of variances to a small number of items needing human review. Country rules are built through a no-code rule builder, and statutory rates are described as updating automatically before each pay run. Integration runs through certified connectors to Workday, Oracle HCM, SAP SuccessFactors, Microsoft Dynamics, Epicor and Sage, plus time systems including Kronos.
For Indian buyers the more useful artefact is the maintained India payroll and tax compliance reference published alongside the product, which tracks notifications on provident fund inspection charges, the Code on Social Security wage ceiling and the transition of TDS provisions between the Income-tax Acts of 1961 and 2025.
Potential strengths
- Statutory coverage is stated for 150-plus countries on one platform, which removes country-by-country vendor management for a multinational
- Certified connectors are listed for Workday, Oracle HCM, SAP SuccessFactors, Microsoft Dynamics, Epicor and Sage
Trade-offs
- No licence or implementation figure is published, and the company states that timelines vary by country count and integration complexity
- The product is built for medium, large and mega enterprises, so a single-country Indian company of modest size is outside its intended range
- Product reference
- Product documentation
- Billing terms: Not recorded

Frequently asked questions
Which products on this page publish a price?
Six of the ten. Zoho Payroll publishes a free tier and three paid plans from ₹1,000 per organisation per month billed annually. Kredily publishes ₹0, ₹1,249 and ₹1,749 a month. RazorpayX Payroll publishes ₹2,499 and ₹5,499 a month plus 18 percent GST. greytHR publishes ₹2,495 and ₹4,495 a month. Pocket HRMS publishes ₹2,995 and ₹4,495 a month billed annually. Keka publishes per-additional-employee rates of ₹90, ₹120 and ₹150 but not the plan base figure. factoHR, Darwinbox, PeopleStrong and Ramco Payce publish no plan figure.
How do the per-employee meters actually compare?
They compare only after the bundled headcount is taken into account, because the base price buys a different number of employees at each vendor. Zoho Payroll Standard includes 25 employees and charges ₹40 above on annual billing. greytHR Essential includes 50 and charges ₹45 above. Pocket HRMS Standard includes 50 and charges ₹60 above. Kredily Payroll OS includes 25 and charges ₹50 above. RazorpayX ELITE covers 50 and charges ₹150 above, to a ceiling of 100. Model the real headcount against each meter rather than comparing base prices.
Do all of these handle Indian statutory compliance?
Every product on this page states PF, ESI, professional tax and TDS handling, but the published detail varies. greytHR names ECR generation, ESI challans, state-specific professional tax rules, eTDS returns, one-click Form 24Q with FVU validation and digitally signed Form 16 and 12BA. Keka names ECR, 24Q and 26Q with filing-ready challans. Zoho Payroll names professional tax across 28 states plus Forms 12BB, 24Q and 16. Confirm which specific forms and filings are produced, rather than accepting a general compliance claim.
Is attendance included, or is it a separate cost?
It is frequently separate, and it is the most common reason a published figure understates the real cost. greytHR places advanced attendance and shift management in Growth rather than Essential, and geo-tracking is an add-on at ₹140 per user per month. Zoho Payroll includes leave and attendance only on the Premium plan. Kredily puts selfie and GPS attendance in Professional and sells three attendance add-ons at ₹50 per user per month each. RazorpayX Payroll marks time and attendance unavailable on both PRIME and ELITE.
Which products suit a company above a thousand employees?
The three quoted enterprise suites are built for that range. Darwinbox states more than 900 enterprise customers across 130 countries and 1.2 million payslips monthly. PeopleStrong documents configurable salary structures, pay periods and approval mechanisms with more than 350 pre-defined reports. Ramco Payce states 500-plus customers across 150-plus countries. Among the published-price products, greytHR states that its system scales from 50 to 50,000 employees and processes payroll for a company of 85,000 in minutes.
What does a quoted price usually hide?
Implementation and operating model. Ramco states that implementation timelines vary by country count, workforce size and integration complexity, which signals a separately negotiated implementation cost. Darwinbox offers a lighter payroll option, a self-run configuration and managed services, and the choice between them changes both the price and the internal effort required. PeopleStrong sells payroll outsourcing alongside the platform. In each case the licence figure alone would not describe the twelve-month cost.
Does a free tier make sense for a real payroll?
It depends on what the free tier excludes, and both free tiers here are explicit. Zoho Payroll is free to ten employees and still runs income tax, EPF, ESI, professional tax and labour welfare fund compliance with the TDS worksheet, but paid features such as Form 130 with digital signature and contractor payroll sit above it. Kredily is ₹0 for unlimited employees with statutory calculation included, but salary payout, PF and ESI challans, Form 12BB, Form 16 and reporting all require the paid Payroll OS tier.
What should a buyer confirm before signing?
Confirm four things in writing. First, the headcount the base price includes and the rate above it, since every published meter on this page works that way. Second, whether attendance, leave and performance are inside the plan or priced as add-ons. Third, exactly which statutory forms and filings the product generates, named form by form. Fourth, whether taxes are included in the quoted figure, as RazorpayX Payroll states 18 percent GST applies on top of its published prices.
