Best Business Plan Software (2026): Top 7 Compared

Updated October 2026By StatWharf Editorial7 vendorsMethodology

Business plan software guides a founder or owner through the written plan and the financial forecast behind it, then exports the result for a lender, investor, visa officer or partner. The seven products below split into three groups. LivePlan, Upmetrics and Bizplan are guided plan builders sold on monthly or annual subscriptions, with collaboration and education or support around the plan. PrometAI, Venturekit and Businessplan.ai lead with AI-generated drafts, and two of them offer a free tier or one-time pricing. Brixx is a forecasting tool that builds the three-way financial model a plan needs, without a narrative writing module.

These comparisons draw on public product information, not hands-on testing of every tool. Source records identify available references and checks; missing evidence is marked. Buyer fit is an editorial assessment, not a measured performance score. How to use this research.

Business plan software helps founders, small business owners and their advisors write a business plan and build the financial forecast that supports it. The usual workflow runs from describing the business idea, through market and competitor sections, to a projected profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow, and finally to an exported plan or pitch deck for a lender, investor, visa officer or business partner. Most current products add AI drafting, and several continue after the plan is written by comparing the forecast with actual results from accounting software.

The market divides by what the buyer pays for. LivePlan, Upmetrics and Bizplan are guided plan builders on monthly or annual subscriptions, with support, collaboration or startup education around the plan. PrometAI, Venturekit and Businessplan.ai lead with AI-generated drafts and include a free tier or one-time pricing. Brixx builds the financial model only and leaves the narrative to the user.

The comparison covers seven products. Details come from each vendor’s public product and pricing pages, checked on 13 October 2026.

Vendor details and trade-offs

LivePlan

smbliveplan.com ↗
Consider forOwners of small and new businesses who need a funder-ready business plan, a full financial forecast and, after launch, a comparison of plan against actual results, as LivePlan's product and pricing pages describe
Pricing notesStandard costs $15 a month paid annually or $20 paid monthly. Premium costs $30 a month paid annually or $40 paid monthly, and adds deeper research, up to ten forecast scenarios, budget-versus-actual dashboards and automatic financial analysis. A LivePlan Expert add-on with one-to-one video meetings costs $30 a month, paid monthly. A 35-day money-back guarantee applies (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateA Plan Review step that reads the plan as a lender would and flags where the narrative and the financial forecast disagree

LivePlan is the business planning application from Palo Alto Software. The vendor states that it has served more than 1.5 million businesses, and it positions the product around plans that will stand up to lenders and investors. The homepage describes a sequence of modules: an AI-guided Idea Canvas that pressure-tests the idea, Market Research, a Plan Builder with Plan Review, Financial Forecasting, a Pitch Deck Creator and Plan vs. Actual.

The Plan Builder gives step-by-step instructions and examples for each section, and a writing assistant called Help me Write drafts text for each part of the plan. More than 550 sample plans are available by industry. Plan Review reads the finished plan the way a lender would and points out where the narrative and the financials disagree; the pricing page also lists a funder readiness review that reports what to improve before a plan is presented. LivePlan states that its market research cites a named source for each insight, drawn from more than 50 sources and specific to the buyer's geography, with industry benchmarks from a professional research firm.

The forecast builds a projected profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow without spreadsheets, and the three statements are linked so a change in one assumption flows through the rest. Pitch presentations are generated from the plan and can be edited and exported to PDF or PowerPoint, with data kept in sync.

Premium adds the tools for running the business after the plan is written. It allows up to ten forecast scenarios, budget-versus-actual dashboards with more than 20 trend reports, automatic analysis of variances and a profit and cash forecast that updates from QuickBooks Online or Xero. LivePlan also lists solutions for consultants, SBA partners, educators, lenders, incubators and accountants, and sells a separate plan writing service.

Potential strengths

  • Published prices with a 35-day money-back guarantee and a live onboarding session
  • Plan, forecast, pitch deck and plan-versus-actual tracking stay in one product, with QuickBooks Online and Xero connections

Trade-offs

  • Scenarios, budget-versus-actual dashboards and automatic financial analysis require the Premium plan
  • Dedicated one-to-one expert help is a separate monthly add-on

Upmetrics

smbupmetrics.co ↗
Consider forFounders seeking funding, loans, grants or a visa, and business consultants, incubators and educators who coordinate plans for several people, as Upmetrics' homepage and solutions navigation describe
Pricing notesThree tiers. Starter is $7 a month billed yearly or $9 billed monthly. Premium is $14 a month billed yearly or $19 billed monthly. Professional is $37 a month billed yearly or $49 billed monthly. These figures come from the pricing page data; the page's own description says plans start at $14 a month billed yearly, so the entry price should be confirmed at checkout. All plans carry a 15-day money-back guarantee (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateIdea validation, AI plan writing, forecasting, pitch decks and plan-versus-actual tracking in one collaborative workspace

Upmetrics describes itself as business plan software with the financials built in. Its FAQ names five tools in one workspace: idea validation on a Lean Canvas, AI business plan writing, financial forecasting, a pitch deck builder and plan-versus-actual tracking. The site is available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch.

The workflow starts with a short questionnaire about the business, its customers and its stage. An AI feature called Suggest Answers then drafts each section of the plan, which the user reviews and edits, and Upmetrics turns the user's numbers into a three-year forecast without spreadsheets or formulas. An AI pitch deck generator builds the presentation from the same plan, and strategic planning tools sit alongside. Business model templates include the Business Model Canvas, Lean Canvas and SWOT analysis, and the resources section lists more than 400 sample business plans.

Collaboration is a central feature. Partners and advisors can edit the plan in real time in a shared workspace, and interactive financial dashboards show revenue, expenses, cash flow and other metrics. After launch, QuickBooks or Xero can be connected so actual results flow into the forecast and plan-versus-actual reports update each month without exports.

Upmetrics lists solutions for securing funding, loans and grants, for consultants and advisors, for starting a business, for incubators and accelerators, for business schools and for E-2 visa plans. It also sells a white-label version and paid services for plan writing, plan review, financial forecasting, pitch deck creation and SBA lending support.

Potential strengths

  • Low published monthly and yearly prices with a 15-day money-back guarantee
  • Real-time collaboration and a white-label option suit advisors and incubators

Trade-offs

  • The pricing page's own description and its plan data state different entry prices
  • Plan-level feature differences were not readable on the public pricing page

Bizplan

smbbizplan.com ↗
Consider forEarly-stage startup founders who want a guided business plan creator alongside startup education, expert advice and access to an online fundraising platform, as Bizplan's homepage and pricing page describe
Pricing notesMonthly costs $29 a month. Annual is billed at $249 a year, shown as $20.75 a month. Lifetime Access is a one-time payment of $349. Every option includes unlimited business plans, unlimited collaborators and all features (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateA lifetime-access option and unlimited plans and collaborators on every plan

Bizplan is the business planning tool of Startups.com, which also runs Launchrock, a platform for early customer acquisition, and Fundable, an equity fundraising platform. Its pricing page presents Bizplan as part of Startups Unlimited, so a subscription covers the Startups.com platform as well as the plan builder.

The guided business plan creator prompts the founder with the questions a plan needs to answer, so the document is built section by section rather than from a blank page. Financial tools handle salaries, revenue projections and cost tracking: the founder sets goals and Bizplan performs the calculations. Finished plans can be shared online with investors or used with Fundable, which Bizplan says has helped startups raise more than $500 million in committed capital. A Bizplan subscription includes free access to Fundable.

Education is the other half of the offer. The homepage lists nine subject tracks, 650 masterclass videos and more than 1,200 in-depth guides covering idea validation, startup capital, early customers and operations. Subscribers can ask questions of a community of more than 20,000 founders and experts, online or by scheduling a call, and the site reports more than 17,000 expert answers to date.

Pricing is simple. Every plan includes unlimited business plans, unlimited collaborators and all features, and the choice is between monthly billing, annual billing and a one-time lifetime payment. Bizplan's public pages focus on the guided builder, education and fundraising, and they do not describe accounting integrations or ongoing comparison of plan against actual results.

Potential strengths

  • One-time lifetime option avoids a recurring subscription
  • Unlimited plans and collaborators at every price point

Trade-offs

  • The product pages describe financial tools in less depth than the forecasting-led products here
  • No accounting integration or plan-versus-actual tracking is described

PrometAI

smbprometai.app ↗
Consider forFounders writing a plan for a specific submission, such as a bank or SBA loan, an E-2 or EB-5 visa application, an investor pitch or a university course, as PrometAI's pricing page describes
Pricing notesExplore is free with one business plan, 25 AI requests and 2 AI images a month. Application-Ready costs $55 a month billed monthly and adds PDF export, 2 plans, 200 AI requests a month, financial dashboards and currency selection. Investor-Grade costs $145 a month billed monthly and adds PowerPoint export, DCF valuation and stress testing, NDA and term-sheet templates, 5 plans and 10 translations. Quarterly billing saves about 18% and annual up to about 55%. Paid plans carry a money-back guarantee (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluatePlans tiered by the submission they target, with a valuation and stress-testing tier for fundraising

PrometAI is an AI business plan generator. The founder gives a short description of the company and its goals, and the product drafts a structured plan; the vendor states that the average time to a first draft is under two minutes and that 90% of users finish the first draft in one sitting. It describes itself as strategy built in rather than a template library, with industry-specific insights and benchmarks.

The pricing page organises plans around the gate the plan needs to clear: a loan, a visa, an investor or a class. Its use cases are investor and pitch decks, bank and SBA loan applications, E-2 and EB-5 visa applications, and university or education work. The vendor states that more than 70,000 plans have been created in more than 180 countries.

Explore is free and covers one plan, the core plan sections, 25 AI requests and 2 AI images a month, with automatic cloud sync and backup. Application-Ready is aimed at loan, visa or class submissions and adds PDF export, a second plan, 200 AI requests a month, financial dashboards and a choice of currency. Investor-Grade is aimed at fundraising and adds PowerPoint export, a DCF valuation with stress testing, NDA and term-sheet templates, five plans with ten translations, and higher image and AI request limits.

Quarterly and annual billing lower the effective monthly price considerably. The page lists special pricing for students, educators, incubators, accelerators and nonprofits, and a money-back guarantee on every paid plan. Buyers who need a printable plan should note that the free tier does not include PDF export.

Potential strengths

  • Permanent free tier for a first draft
  • Valuation, stress testing and term-sheet templates on the top tier

Trade-offs

  • PDF export requires a paid plan
  • Monthly prices are higher than most subscriptions here unless billed quarterly or annually

Venturekit

smbventurekit.ai ↗
Consider forSmall business owners and entrepreneurs, particularly in the United States, who want an AI-generated business plan, forecast and pitch deck and may also need LLC formation and compliance filings, as Venturekit's homepage and pricing page describe
Pricing notesPlan & grow is free and includes unlimited light business plans and 3 full business plans a month. Pro costs $8 a month billed annually. An Agency upgrade costs $38 a month and allows 20 full business plans a month. Formation costs $169 a year plus state filing fees, and Registered Agent Service is $199 a year. Subscriptions can be cancelled from the account page at any time (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateThe lowest published paid entry price here, plus LLC formation, registered agent and compliance services from the same vendor

Venturekit is an AI-powered business planning platform from Venturekit, Inc. The founder answers questions about the business, and Venturekit generates a lender-ready plan that can then be refined with editing tools and dozens of design themes. The platform also creates a financial forecast covering revenue, expenses, profit and loss and the balance sheet, generates an editable pitch deck that can be shared by link or exported as a PDF, and provides market research.

Three further tools sit around the plan. Assistant is described as a business consultant with full context of the business, Radar tracks industry news, and Guides gives step-by-step help. The vendor states that it has helped 750,000 entrepreneurs, that its customers have raised $350 million and that it draws on 25 years of business planning experience. It states that it does not use customer data to train its AI.

Venturekit differs from the other products here by selling company formation. Formation covers a US LLC filing, an operating agreement, an EIN and a compliance service that handles state filings such as annual reports, with a stated processing time of one business day. A Registered Agent Service is an add-on.

The free plan includes unlimited light plans and three full plans a month, and Pro is $8 a month billed annually. The published lists for the two plans are the same, so buyers should confirm the difference before paying. The FAQ notes that a standard subscription manages one active plan at a time, with others archived. Support runs Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm Eastern. When accessed for this review, the Venturekit homepage showed a notice that the service was not available in the visitor's country, so buyers outside the United States should confirm availability.

Potential strengths

  • Free tier with three full business plans a month
  • Email, chat and phone support on the free and Pro plans

Trade-offs

  • The published feature lists for the free and Pro plans are identical, so buyers should confirm what Pro adds
  • The standard subscription manages one active business plan at a time

  • Billing terms: Billed annually (Pro); free tier available

Businessplan.ai

smbbusinessplan.ai ↗
Consider forFounders and small business owners who want a full AI-generated business plan, with financial forecasts and market analysis, without an ongoing subscription, as Businessplan.ai's pricing page describes
Pricing notesOne-time payments with lifetime access and unlimited edits. Lite is $79 for 3 basic plans with 3-year forecasts and email support. Standard is $109 for 6 advanced plans with 5-year forecasts and email and chat support. Pro is $139 for 12 comprehensive plans with 5-year forecasts and priority support. All export to PDF and Word. A 7-day money-back guarantee applies (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateNo subscription: each package is a single payment covering a fixed number of plans

Businessplan.ai generates a complete business plan with AI and sells it in one-time packages rather than subscriptions. Each package lets the buyer create plans for several businesses, with unlimited edits for every plan and lifetime access. The vendor states that more than 10,000 founders use the product and that a plan is delivered in under five minutes.

The three packages differ in the number of plans and in plan depth. Lite produces basic plans with 9 chapters and 30 sections and a 3-year financial forecast. Standard produces advanced plans with 13 chapters and 47 sections and a detailed 5-year forecast. Pro produces comprehensive plans with 13 chapters and 56 sections. Working from the package price and plan count, the vendor gives a cost per plan of $26.33 for Lite, $18.16 for Standard and $11.58 for Pro.

Sections common to all packages include editable financials, a funding plan, market research, customer insights, SWOT analysis, pricing and margin analysis, operations and go-to-market. Competition analysis, KPIs, a growth roadmap, an implementation plan, risk management and an exit strategy appear from Standard upward. Design options include industry-specific themes, custom brand colours, charts and infographics, and between 2 and 20 cover pages depending on the package.

Plans export to PDF and Word and can be shared by email. Support is email only on Lite, email and chat on Standard and priority support on Pro. A 7-day money-back guarantee applies. The product is built to produce a finished document; its pricing page does not describe accounting connections or tracking of actual results after launch.

Potential strengths

  • One-time pricing with lifetime access and unlimited edits
  • Word export makes the draft easy to edit outside the product

Trade-offs

  • Competition analysis, KPIs, risk management and exit strategy sections start at Standard
  • No accounting integration or plan-versus-actual tracking is described

Brixx

smbbrixx.com ↗
Consider forStartups, small businesses, franchises and their accountants who need a financial forecast and three-way statements for a business plan or funding application, as Brixx's pricing and solutions pages describe
Pricing notesFoundations costs $25 a month or $240 a year for 1 plan and a 1-year forecast. Professional costs $50 a month or $480 a year for 3 plans and a 3-year forecast. Enterprise costs $75 a month or $720 a year for 5 plans and a 10-year forecast, with extra plans at $5 a month or $4 a month billed annually. All plans include unlimited users and all features. Prices exclude local taxes (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateA visual timeline where sales, hires and costs are dragged forward or back and the forecast updates at once

Brixx is financial forecasting and modelling software that replaces spreadsheets with a visual planning tool. It does not write the narrative of a business plan; it builds the financial side, including revenue, costs, cash flow, a balance sheet and what-if scenarios, and produces reports a lender or investor can read. Its pricing page describes the Professional plan as suited to building a three-year business plan to grow or secure funding.

Plans are built from components. Revenue calculations cover products and services, expenditure calculations cover salaries, inventory and cost of sales, asset calculations handle depreciation, and funding calculations model loans and investment with interest and repayments. Brixx calculates VAT, GST, sales tax and corporation tax automatically. A dynamic timeline lets the user drag the start and end dates of any activity, such as a product launch or a new hire, and see the effect immediately. Industry templates provide a starting point.

Reporting is automatic. Brixx produces a dashboard and linked three-way statements (profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow), plus budget, tax and industry reports such as inventory. Reports export to PDF, PNG and Excel. Scenarios can be compared side by side, and a reforecast feature adjusts projections against actual results.

The Xero integration can build a model from the last 12 months of historical data and then bring in actual results daily or on demand. Every plan includes unlimited users, who can be invited as editors or viewers with a free account. Support is by email and live chat during UK business hours. Brixx states that it is used in more than 80 countries and supports all major currencies, and it offers partner pricing for accountants and bookkeepers.

Potential strengths

  • Unlimited users and every feature on all plans
  • Automated tax calculations and Xero integration for model setup and actuals

Trade-offs

  • No business plan narrative writer; the written plan must be produced elsewhere
  • Forecast length is capped at 1 or 3 years on the two lower plans

How to choose a vendor

Decide what the plan is for before comparing features

A bank or SBA loan application needs lender-ready financial statements, a cash flow forecast and a clear use of funds. An investor pitch needs a deck and, in some cases, a valuation. A visa application such as the US E-2 needs a plan written to the officer's expectations. PrometAI and Upmetrics name visa plans as a use case, LivePlan names lenders and SBA partners, and PrometAI's top plan adds a DCF valuation. Buyers who only need a forecast for an existing narrative may find Brixx enough.

Compare the billing unit, not only the headline price

Most products here are subscriptions with a lower monthly rate when paid annually: LivePlan saves 25%, Brixx 20% and PrometAI up to about 55%. Bizplan also sells lifetime access for a one-time $349, and Businessplan.ai sells one-time packages from $79 that cover a set number of plans. Plan limits differ too. Brixx counts plans per subscription, PrometAI counts plans and AI requests, and Venturekit counts full plans per month. A founder writing one plan pays a different total from an advisor writing many.

Check what happens after the plan is written

A plan for a loan is often a one-off document, but some owners want to keep using the forecast. LivePlan Premium, Upmetrics and Brixx can pull actual results from accounting software (QuickBooks Online or Xero for the first two, Xero for Brixx) to compare plan against actual. Products without that link suit a single funding round. Buyers should also check export formats, since lenders and investors may ask for PDF, Word, PowerPoint or Excel files.

Frequently asked questions

What is business plan software?

Business plan software guides a founder or owner through writing a business plan and building the financial forecast behind it. Typical features include section-by-section prompts or AI drafting, sample plans, projected profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow statements, pitch deck generation and export to PDF, Word or PowerPoint. Some products also connect to accounting software to compare the plan with actual results.

How much does business plan software cost?

Published prices in this comparison run from free tiers at PrometAI and Venturekit to $8 a month for Venturekit Pro billed annually, $7 to $49 a month at Upmetrics, $15 to $40 a month at LivePlan, $25 to $75 a month at Brixx, $29 a month at Bizplan and $55 to $145 a month at PrometAI billed monthly. Bizplan ($349) and Businessplan.ai ($79 to $139) also sell one-time packages. Figures were checked in October 2026.

Is there free business plan software?

Yes. PrometAI's Explore plan is free for one plan with limited AI requests, but PDF export requires a paid plan. Venturekit's free plan includes unlimited light plans and three full plans a month. Free tiers usually limit exports, plan counts or AI usage, so buyers should check that the free output meets the lender's or investor's format before relying on it.

Can business plan software write the plan with AI?

Most products here now include AI drafting. LivePlan offers Help me Write and AI idea validation, Upmetrics drafts sections with Suggest Answers, and PrometAI, Venturekit and Businessplan.ai generate a full draft from a short description. Bizplan uses guided prompts, and Brixx builds forecasts rather than text. AI drafts still need review, because figures, market claims and assumptions must match the actual business.

Which tools are suited to an SBA loan or bank application?

LivePlan lists SBA partners and lenders among its audiences and produces lender-ready statements with a funder readiness review. Upmetrics sells an SBA lending service alongside the software. PrometAI names bank and SBA loan applications as a use case for its Application-Ready plan. Venturekit and Brixx produce lender-ready statements or three-way forecasts. Lenders set their own requirements, so applicants should confirm the expected format with the lender.

Can these tools produce a business plan for an E-2 or EB-5 visa?

PrometAI names E-2 and EB-5 visa applications as use cases, and Upmetrics lists an E-2 visa business plan solution. The other products do not name visa plans on the pages reviewed. Software produces a draft; immigration requirements are set by the relevant authority, and applicants usually work with an immigration attorney on what the plan must contain.

What is the difference between business plan software and financial forecasting software?

Business plan software covers the written plan as well as the numbers: executive summary, market analysis, strategy, operations and a forecast. Financial forecasting software such as Brixx concentrates on the model, with revenue, costs, cash flow, scenarios and three-way statements. LivePlan and Upmetrics combine both. A founder who already has a written plan may only need a forecasting tool.
