These comparisons draw on public product information, not hands-on testing of every tool. Source records identify available references and checks; missing evidence is marked. Buyer fit is an editorial assessment, not a measured performance score. How to use this research.

Investment portfolio management software gives an advisory firm or family office one reconciled record of what each client owns, and builds performance reports, rebalancing, fee billing and a client portal on top of it. Buyers are usually operations leads, chief investment officers and principals at independent RIAs, wealth management firms, multi-family offices and single-family offices who want fewer spreadsheets and faster, more accurate client reporting.

The comparison below covers ten products: five advisor platforms built around portfolio accounting and trading, three consolidation platforms for complex and multi-entity wealth, and two lighter reporting tools. Pricing comes from each vendor’s public pricing or product pages, checked on 12 October 2026. Morningstar Office is not included because Morningstar announced its retirement. Private-markets fund administration software is a separate category and is not covered here.

Addepar

enterpriseaddepar.com ↗
Consider forWealth management firms, family offices, banks and institutional allocators that hold alternatives and complex legal entities and need one consolidated portfolio record, as Addepar's wealth management and family office pages describe
Pricing notesQuote-based. Addepar does not publish prices; its former pricing address redirects to a contact form for a sales conversation (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateCaptures and standardises alternative investment data alongside public holdings and maps look-through ownership across trusts, holding companies and family branches

Addepar describes itself as a data and AI platform for financial professionals, with separate offerings for banks, family offices, fund managers, institutional allocators and wealth management firms. The product is built around a single data foundation that aggregates holdings across custodians and asset classes.

For wealth managers, Addepar brings portfolio data, workflows and reporting into one system and emphasises alternatives: it captures and standardises private investment data so exposures, performance and liquidity can be seen next to public holdings. Built-in intelligence surfaces what has changed across portfolios in the flow of work.

The family office offering addresses nested legal entities, trusts and holding companies. Addepar lists look-through ownership analysis and net worth across family branches, automated ingestion from global custodians and LP portals, API integration with general ledgers, and permissioned digital portals for family members. Pricing is by quote only.

Potential strengths

  • Covers banks, family offices, fund managers, institutional allocators and wealth managers on one data platform
  • Family office tools include automated ingestion from custodians and LP portals and permissioned client portals

Trade-offs

  • No published pricing
  • Positioned for complex, multi-entity wealth, which may exceed the needs of a small RIA

Feature to evaluateEvery product reads from one portfolio accounting record, and Orion publishes starting prices for its three bundled technology stacks

Orion Advisor Solutions sells a wealth technology platform for financial advisors covering CRM through Redtail, financial planning, portfolio accounting, trading, compliance and AI. Its site describes three operating models: advisor-managed, partially outsourced and fully outsourced through its turnkey asset management program.

Orion Portfolio Accounting is the base layer. It can be bought on its own or within a stack.

Orion Trading supports household-level rebalancing, sleeve-based account management, daily tax-loss harvesting scans, asset location optimisation and direct routing to several custodians. Envestnet Tamarac

mid-marketenvestnet.com ↗
Consider forIndependent RIAs that run model portfolios and want trading, rebalancing, performance reporting, billing, a client portal and CRM, as Envestnet's Tamarac page describes
Pricing notesQuote-based. Envestnet does not publish Tamarac prices and directs buyers to a contact form (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateUnified managed accounts turn account-by-account portfolio work into an automated workflow across sleeves

Tamarac is the RIA technology suite of Envestnet, and the page states that independent advisors have used Tamarac for portfolio management, trading and reporting for more than 25 years. The product covers the investment lifecycle from proposal to reporting.

Tamarac Trading streamlines trading, rebalancing and compliance workflows so a firm can serve more clients. Reporting covers investment performance, holdings and transactions with customisable reports, and a client portal gives clients a broader view of their finances. A proposal tool builds, presents and funds investment strategies, and unified managed accounts replace manual, account-by-account portfolio work with an automated workflow. Tamarac also includes a CRM.

Envestnet quotes the product to each firm. Buyers should ask which modules are included, how billing is calculated and how data from current custodians is converted.

Potential strengths

  • Covers trading, reporting, client portal, proposals, UMAs and CRM
  • Part of Envestnet, which offers wider wealth technology beyond Tamarac

Trade-offs

  • No published pricing
  • Public product page gives limited detail on each module

Advyzon

mid-marketadvyzon.com ↗
Consider forNew, breakaway and established RIAs and enterprise firms that want portfolio accounting, reporting, rebalancing, billing and CRM built as one system, as Advyzon's site and product pages describe
Pricing notesQuote-based. Advyzon does not publish a pricing page; product pages direct buyers to a sales phone line and email (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateBuilt as one platform on one code base and data model, with nine rebalancing modes in the Quantum rebalancer

Advyzon sells an all-in-one wealth management platform and states that it has built one product on one code base, data model and workflow architecture. Its product lines include the Advyzon platform, Advyzon Investment Management, enterprise solutions and Auria for family wealth management.

Portfolio management centres on reporting: a component library for branded reports, security-specific metrics including fixed income and crypto, scheduled batch reports shared to the client portal, and business intelligence dashboards for AUM growth, revenue and net new assets. Advisors can build custom models, generate proposals and track composites, with alerts for new cash, RMDs and out-of-balance portfolios.

Potential strengths

  • Billing supports percentage of AUM, flat, tiered and hybrid fees on average daily balances
  • Reports cover security-specific metrics, including fixed income and crypto

Trade-offs

  • No published pricing

Altruist

smbaltruist.com ↗
Consider forIndependent RIAs that custody client assets with Altruist, or plan to, and want trading, rebalancing, reporting, billing and a client portal in one place, as Altruist's portfolio management and pricing pages describe
Pricing notesAltruist brokerage accounts are excluded from the portfolio accounting software fee. Connected accounts at other custodians cost $1 per account per month, with the first 100 accounts free each month. A 30-day free trial applies, billing is monthly in advance by credit card, and client accounts may carry separate brokerage, model marketplace or tax management fees (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateSoftware cost for accounts held at Altruist is zero, because the vendor is also the custodian

Altruist is a custodian for independent RIAs that bundles portfolio management software with brokerage accounts. As the custodian, it excludes Altruist brokerage accounts from its portfolio accounting software fee and charges only for accounts held at other custodians beyond the first 100.

The portfolio management tools cover commission-free manual trading of fractional shares, ETFs and mutual funds, automated rules-based rebalancing with a review-and-release step, and custom models and unified managed accounts. Tax management includes daily tax-loss harvesting scans and tax-sensitive rebalancing. Altruist Personalized Indexing applies sector, industry and values-based exclusions.

A model marketplace lists more than 500 managed model portfolios, some at no model fee, alongside high-yield cash, securities-based lending and digital fixed income trading. Advisors should read Altruist's fee schedules, since model and tax management fees may apply to client accounts.

Potential strengths

  • Automated rules-based rebalancing with review and release of trades before execution
  • Model marketplace with more than 500 managed model portfolios and built-in tax-loss harvesting scans

Trade-offs

  • Pricing advantage depends on custodying with Altruist
  • Model marketplace and tax management fees can apply to client accounts

Consider forSingle-family offices, multi-family offices, wealth advisors and private banks that need consolidated reporting across financial, alternative and non-financial assets and multi-entity structures, as Masttro's site describes

For family offices, Masttro consolidates financial, alternative and non-financial assets into one view, with dashboards and performance reporting across multi-entity structures and ownership hierarchies, and legacy and estate planning tools. Multi-family offices get automated reporting, compliance and portfolio analytics, plus AI-powered capture of alternative investment documents and capital calls. Wealth advisors get branded client portals, bill payment and cash management workflows.

Privacy is a central theme: Masttro lists client-controlled encryption keys, Swiss-based infrastructure, private servers and encrypted document vaults. The pricing page states that fees do not grow with assets under management and that each firm receives a proposal.

Potential strengths

  • More than 700 direct data feeds for daily aggregation
  • AI tools for alternative investment documents, capital calls and performance tracking

Trade-offs

  • No published price figures
  • Built for complex family wealth rather than a typical retail advisory book

Asset Vantage

Consider forSingle-family offices, multi-family offices and CPA and business management firms that need accounting and consolidated performance reporting across many entities, as Asset Vantage's site and pricing page describe
Pricing notesSingle-family office plans are $30,000 a year for 10 entities, $43,200 for 20 entities and $55,200 for 30 entities, billed annually; 30-plus entities, multi-family offices and CPA firms are quoted. Onboarding is a one-time fee and managed services through AV Prime are an optional add-on. Pricing is not based on assets under management (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateMaps every investment transaction into an integrated general ledger, so the accounting books and portfolio performance stay in step

Asset Vantage is family office software that combines a general ledger with performance reporting. It began as the internal tool of a technology group's family office and now describes itself as a financial operating system for family offices and their advisors.

Data aggregation covers custodial and bank feeds, card accounts, PDF fund statements and trade confirmations, and corporate action feeds. Every transaction generates a general ledger posting, and the platform keeps custody, investment and accounting books of record in step. Performance reporting includes time-weighted returns, IRR and PME benchmarks for illiquid assets, and roll-forward valuations.

The pricing page publishes single-family office plans by entity count, defined as a unique tax or legal identity such as an individual, trust or partnership. Higher plans add partnership accounting, tax lot relief, multi-currency and US tax reports. AV Prime managed services and one-time onboarding are priced separately.

Potential strengths

  • Partnership accounting, tax lot relief and multi-currency reporting on SFO plans
  • Optional managed services handle monthly posting, reconciliation and reporting

Trade-offs

  • Entry SFO plan is $30,000 a year before one-time onboarding
  • Multi-family office pricing is not published

Kubera

smbkubera.com ↗
Consider forAdvisors and family offices that want clients to see a branded, complete balance sheet, and families tracking trusts and LLCs themselves, as Kubera's white-label and wealth tracker pages describe
Pricing notesKubera White Label for firms is $300 a month, with no implementation fee and setup starting within 24 hours of signing. Kubera Essentials is $250 a year for one household, and Kubera Black is $2,500 a year with ownership tags, nested portfolios, guided onboarding and VIP support (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateRead-only balance sheet covering bank and brokerage accounts, crypto, private funds, real estate and collectibles under the firm's brand

Kubera began as a net worth tracker for individuals and now sells a white-label version to advisory firms. Each client logs in at a firm-branded address and sees a Kubera balance sheet, while the firm uses an admin console to view every client.

Kubera aggregates banks and brokerages through several data providers and reads balances from websites that do not connect. It tracks crypto wallets and exchanges, private fund commitments, calls, distributions and IRR, real estate, vehicles and collectibles, with debts shown against the assets that secure them. Kubera Black adds ownership tags and nested portfolios for trusts, LLCs and holding companies.

Kubera states plainly that it is not a back office: it does not do billing, trading, rebalancing or compliance, and suggests keeping Orion, Addepar or Black Diamond for that work. Access is read-only and the vendor cites a SOC 2 Type II report.

Potential strengths

  • Flat price that does not change with client wealth
  • AI assistant access can be switched off firm-wide for compliance

Trade-offs

  • States that it does not handle billing, trading, rebalancing or compliance
  • Firms still need a portfolio accounting system for managed assets

Sharesight

budgetsharesight.com ↗
Consider forFinancial advisors, accountants and family offices that report on client share portfolios, dividends and capital gains and prefer per-portfolio pricing without contracts, as Sharesight's business and adviser pages describe
Pricing notesBusiness plan priced per portfolio per month in USD: $13.50 for 5 to 19 portfolios, $12 for 20 to 49, $10.50 for 50 to 99 and $9.20 for 100 or more. Taxes may apply. Sharesight states no contracts, no FUM, custodian or admin fees, and a 14-day free trial without a credit card (checked Oct 2026)
Feature to evaluateAutomatically records prices, currency effects, dividends and share splits, with multi-period and multi-currency performance reports

Sharesight is a portfolio tracker used by more than 200,000 investors, with a separate business plan for accountants, advisors and family offices who manage portfolios for clients. It tracks listed and unlisted investments, dividends, corporate actions and capital gains across client portfolios.

For advisors, Sharesight reports a portfolio's or holding's returns including brokerage, currency effects and dividends, and runs diversity, asset allocation, contribution analysis, multi-currency valuation and multi-period reports. Prices, currency movements and corporate actions such as dividends and share splits update automatically. Staff and clients can be given read, read/write or admin access, and the vendor states SOC 2 and GDPR compliance.

Pricing is published per portfolio per month and falls as the firm adds portfolios. Sharesight does not run trades, rebalance to models or bill advisory fees, so it suits firms that need reporting rather than a full operating platform.

Potential strengths

  • Lowest published entry cost in this group for a small number of client portfolios
  • Read, read/write and admin permissions for staff and clients

Trade-offs

  • Focused on performance and tax reporting rather than trading or billing
  • Business pricing starts at 5 portfolios

How to choose a vendor

Match the pricing unit to how the firm grows

Pricing units differ widely. Orion publishes annual stack prices, Altruist charges per connected outside account, Sharesight charges per client portfolio, Asset Vantage charges by the number of legal entities, and Kubera charges a flat fee per firm or household. Masttro states that its pricing does not scale with assets under management. Model the cost at the expected account, household or entity count in three years, not only at today's book.

Decide whether the firm needs trading or only reporting

Orion, Tamarac, Advyzon and Altruist list model-based rebalancing and tax-loss harvesting inside the platform. Addepar, Masttro, Asset Vantage, Kubera and Sharesight are mainly consolidation and reporting tools, and Kubera states that it does not handle billing, trading or rebalancing. A firm that already trades elsewhere may only need the reporting layer.

Check alternatives, entities and custodian coverage

Firms whose clients hold private funds, real estate, trusts and holding companies should test how each product handles capital calls, look-through ownership and entity consolidation. Addepar, Masttro and Asset Vantage describe these workflows in detail. RIAs that custody mainly with one firm should confirm direct custodian feeds and reconciliation, and Altruist's pricing depends on whether accounts are held at Altruist or elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions

What is investment portfolio management software?

Investment portfolio management software keeps an accurate record of client holdings across custodians and uses it to report performance, rebalance accounts to models, harvest tax losses, bill advisory fees and share results through a client portal. Advisor platforms add trading and CRM, while family office tools add general ledger accounting, legal entity consolidation and alternative investment tracking.

How much does investment portfolio management software cost?

Five of the ten products on this page publish prices. Orion's stacks start at $13,000, $18,000 and $28,000 a year. Asset Vantage starts at $30,000 a year for 10 entities. Sharesight costs $9.20 to $13.50 per portfolio per month, Kubera White Label is $300 a month, and Altruist charges $1 per outside account per month after 100 free. Addepar, Black Diamond, Tamarac, Advyzon and Masttro quote.

Which products price by account, portfolio, entity or firm?

Altruist charges per connected account at other custodians, Sharesight per client portfolio, and Asset Vantage per legal entity such as an individual, trust or partnership. Orion publishes annual stack prices, and Kubera charges a flat monthly fee per firm. Masttro states that its pricing does not scale with assets under management. The other vendors quote.

What is the difference between advisor platforms and family office software?

Advisor platforms such as Orion, Black Diamond, Tamarac, Advyzon and Altruist run a large number of client households, with trading, model rebalancing, fee billing and CRM. Family office tools such as Masttro and Asset Vantage handle fewer families with more complexity: many legal entities, alternatives, general ledger accounting and ownership hierarchies. Addepar serves both groups.

Does the software execute trades and rebalance portfolios?

Some products do and some do not. Orion, Tamarac, Advyzon and Altruist list model-based rebalancing, tax-loss harvesting and trade routing to custodians. Black Diamond lists trading and rebalancing among its modules. Kubera states that it does not trade, rebalance or bill, and Sharesight focuses on performance and tax reporting.

What happened to Morningstar Office?

Morningstar announced in February 2025 that it would retire Morningstar Office, its portfolio management platform for advisors, and arranged a transition path to SS&C Black Diamond. Trade press reported that the platform would be fully retired in the first half of 2026, so it is not included in this comparison.

Is this page investment advice?

No. This page compares software that advisors, wealth managers and family offices use to manage and report on portfolios. It does not assess any investment, model portfolio or strategy, and nothing on it is a recommendation to buy or sell a security.

How was this comparison compiled?
