Best AI Customer Service Software (2026): Top 10 Compared

Updated September 2026By StatWharf Editorial10 vendorsMethodology

The ten products below use AI to answer customers, draft replies for human agents or route and classify tickets. Three groups appear. Service platforms with AI built in (Salesforce Service Cloud with Agentforce, Kustomer and Zoho Desk) combine case management, a customer record and AI agents. AI agent specialists (Decagon, Forethought and eesel AI) add an autonomous agent to chat, email or voice, and Forethought and eesel AI sit on top of an existing help desk. Help desks for smaller and mid-size teams (Gorgias, Hiver, Help Scout and Front) sell seats or ticket bundles and add AI features per resolution, per conversation or per seat. The main billing difference is whether AI is charged per seat, per conversation, per resolution or per ticket. How entries are ordered.

These comparisons draw on public product information, not hands-on testing of every tool. Source records identify available references and checks; missing evidence is marked. Buyer fit is an editorial assessment, not a measured performance score. How to use this research.

AI customer service software answers customer questions, drafts replies and sorts incoming requests with language models. The AI can act as an autonomous agent that resolves a conversation on its own, as a copilot that suggests replies to a human, or as a classifier that tags and routes tickets. Most products combine two or three of these roles.

The market splits into three groups. Service platforms such as Salesforce Service Cloud with Agentforce, Kustomer and Zoho Desk combine case management, a customer record and AI agents. AI agent specialists such as Decagon, Forethought and eesel AI add an agent to chat, email or voice, and some sit on top of an existing help desk. Help desks such as Gorgias, Hiver, Help Scout and Front sell seats or ticket bundles and add AI features that are charged per resolution, per conversation or per seat.

This comparison records pricing and product facts from each vendor’s public pages, checked in September 2026. It does not rank the products against each other.

Salesforce Agentforce for Service

enterprise
salesforce.com ↗
Consider forEnterprises that run customer service on Salesforce and want customer-facing and employee-facing AI agents on the same data, as Salesforce documents for Service Cloud and Agentforce
Pricing notesService Cloud Core lists at $195 and Advanced at $395 per user per month, billed annually. Max, which adds contact center, workforce and quality management and unmetered access to agents, lists at £440 or €550 per user per month on the page viewed. Agentforce add-ons for Service cost $125 per user per month for unmetered employee use. Customer-facing agents are bought through Flex Credits, charged per action, or through Conversations, charged per conversation on a pre-purchase basis. Salesforce Foundations gives a free start with Agentforce Builder (checked Sep 2026)
Feature to evaluateAgentforce runs customer-facing and employee-facing agents on the same Service Cloud case, contact and knowledge records, with three consumption buying models

Salesforce Service Cloud is a customer service platform with case management, a self-service help center and Slack collaboration. Agentforce is Salesforce's AI agent layer. On the service side it includes customer-facing agents that answer and act for customers, and employee-facing agents that help service representatives.

Service Cloud is sold in editions. Core covers case management and the help center at $195 per user per month, billed annually. Advanced adds AI-powered channels and data protection at $395. Max adds contact center, workforce management, quality management and IT service, and includes unmetered access to agents and 2.75 million Flex Credits per org each year.

Agentforce has three buying paths. Flex Credits charge per action and cover customer-facing agents, employee-facing agents and Agentforce Voice. Conversations charge per conversation and are sold on pre-purchase only. User licenses, such as the $125 Agentforce add-on for Service, give unmetered employee use. Usage can be pre-purchased, pre-committed or paid as it goes, and a Digital Wallet tracks consumption.

Potential strengths

  • AI agents work on the case and customer data already held in Service Cloud
  • Buyers can choose per-action, per-conversation or per-user pricing

Trade-offs

  • Seat prices start high before any Agentforce usage is added
  • Consumption pricing needs an account executive conversation to estimate

Forethought

specialist
forethought.ai ↗
Consider forSupport organizations that keep their current help desk and want AI agents trained on past tickets and help center content, as Forethought describes
Pricing notesForethought publishes three tiers, Team, Professional and Enterprise, without list prices, and titles the page outcome-based pricing. Team includes AI agents for chat and mobile, Autoflows, custom actions and ticket triage models. Professional adds AI agents for email, voice and Slack and multi-brand management. Enterprise adds the Solve API, knowledge gap detection and an analytics API (checked Sep 2026)
Feature to evaluateSeparate AI agents resolve customer requests, classify and route tickets, and assist human agents inside the existing help desk

Forethought sells AI agents for customer support that sit on an existing help desk. The company describes a multi-agent system. One agent resolves customer requests, another classifies and prioritizes tickets, and another gives human agents suggested next steps and replies inside their help desk.

Forethought states that its agents learn from past tickets and help center content, and that they can reason and act using business policies. Autoflows define how an agent handles a request, and custom actions let it call other systems. A Discover feature analyzes conversations to find missing help articles and suggest new automations.

The pricing page lists three tiers and no prices. Team covers chat and mobile agents, triage models, CSAT collection, multilingual support and AI QA. Professional adds email, voice and Slack agents, AI-surfaced insights and up to 20 brands. Enterprise adds the Solve API, an analytics API and enterprise security controls. Forethought offers a proof of concept before purchase.

Potential strengths

  • Works with an existing CX platform rather than replacing it
  • Tier contents are published even though prices are not

Trade-offs

  • No list prices, so cost needs a sales conversation
  • Email, voice and Slack agents start on the Professional tier

Gorgias

smb
gorgias.com ↗
Consider forEcommerce brands, especially on Shopify, that want support and an AI agent priced by ticket volume, as Gorgias documents in its plan guide
Pricing notesGorgias prices by billable tickets, not per agent. Its plan guide lists Starter at $10 a month for 50 tickets, Basic at $60 for 300, Pro at $360 for 2,000 and Advanced at $900 for 5,000, with Enterprise quoted. Annual billing is discounted. The AI Agent is available on every plan and is charged only when it resolves a conversation. Voice and SMS are paid add-ons priced by volume (checked Sep 2026)
Feature to evaluateOne inbox and one bill for help desk and AI Agent, with pricing that scales from 50 to 5,000 tickets a month instead of per seat

Gorgias is a help desk for ecommerce brands. It states that it powers customer conversations for 40% of Shopify brands. Email, chat and social messages arrive in one inbox, and agents see order information from the store beside each conversation.

The AI Agent is included on every plan. Gorgias bills it only when it resolves a conversation without a human, and its plan guide says fully resolved conversations help keep billable ticket counts down. Brands can decide which topics the AI Agent handles and which it hands to a person.

Pricing is by billable tickets, which the plan guide defines as customer-initiated conversations that the team views or answers. Starter costs $10 a month for 50 tickets, Basic $60 for 300, Pro $360 for 2,000 and Advanced $900 for 5,000. Enterprise is quoted. Extra tickets above the allowance are charged per ticket, and annual billing is discounted. Voice and SMS are add-ons priced by call and message volume.

Potential strengths

  • Seat count does not change the plan price
  • Built around ecommerce orders and Shopify stores

Trade-offs

  • Ticket overages and AI resolutions add to the listed plan price
  • Less suited to support teams outside ecommerce

Zoho Desk

Consider forCost-sensitive support teams that want ticketing, live chat and AI agents with a choice of Zoho's model or their own API key, as Zoho documents for Zoho Desk
Pricing notesOn the India price list viewed, Standard costs ₹800 and Professional ₹1,400 per user per month, billed annually. The Express plan includes AI agents built on Zoho's own model or a buyer's key, with up to 30 million free tokens a month. Generative AI features such as sentiment analysis, ticket summaries and reply suggestions use a buyer's OpenAI or DeepSeek key. Prices vary by region (checked Sep 2026)
Feature to evaluateBring-your-own-key AI lets a team choose between Zoho's model and its own OpenAI or DeepSeek account

Zoho Desk is the help desk in Zoho's business software suite. It handles email, social media, web forms and, from the Standard plan, live chat and messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram and Telegram. It includes a knowledge base, a community forum and customer satisfaction ratings.

AI appears in two forms. AI agents can be built on Zoho's own large language model or on a buyer's key, and Zoho includes pre-built agents with up to 30 million free tokens a month. Generative AI features, including sentiment analysis, ticket summaries and reply suggestions, run through a buyer's OpenAI key, or a DeepSeek key in the China data center. The Standard plan adds an answer bot that replies from knowledge base articles.

The price list viewed from India shows Standard at ₹800 and Professional at ₹1,400 per user per month, billed annually. Professional adds telephony and further automation. Zoho publishes separate regional price lists, so buyers outside India should check their own.

Potential strengths

  • Low per-user prices on the India price list
  • AI agents and a token allowance start on the entry plan

Trade-offs

  • Generative AI features depend on a buyer-supplied API key
  • Prices differ by region, so the list viewed may not match another country

Consider forSupport and operations teams that manage shared inboxes and want AI agents and a copilot from the entry plan, as Hiver documents for Hiver Omni

AI features are included from the Growth plan. AI Agents resolve requests end to end. AI Copilot drafts replies, surfaces answers and suggests next steps. Skills let a team write step-by-step procedures that Hiver's AI follows across connected tools. The AI Knowledge Builder detects missing knowledge and suggests updates across a help center, Notion and other sources.

Growth costs $25 per user per month billed annually or $35 monthly. Pro, at $55 or $65, adds a customer portal, Slack channels, SLAs, CSAT surveys, advanced analytics and API access. Elite, at $85 or $95, adds AI QA, AI Insights, customer sentiment signals, skill-based routing, SSO and HIPAA handling. Voice is an add-on on each plan.

Potential strengths

  • AI agents and copilot are included from the entry plan
  • Published monthly and annual prices for every tier

Trade-offs

  • AI QA and AI Insights require the Elite plan
  • Voice is an extra add-on

Feature to evaluateAI Answers resolves customer questions from a website and knowledge sources and charges only per resolution, with a three-month free trial

Help Scout is a help desk built around a shared inbox, with live chat, SMS, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger, a knowledge base called Docs and workflows. It targets teams that want a simple tool rather than a large service platform.

AI appears in two places. An AI inbox assistant and, from the Plus plan, unlimited AI Drafts help human agents write replies. AI Answers is the customer-facing agent. It answers from a website and other sources the team adds and hands the customer to a person for complex requests. Help Scout states an average AI Answers resolution rate of 73%.

The pricing page displays Standard at $25, Plus at $45 and Pro at $75 per user per month, and offers a 16% discount for annual billing. Pro includes SSO, HIPAA compliance and a dedicated onboarding specialist. A Free plan covers 5 users. AI Answers costs $0.75 per resolution, billed monthly, with a three-month free trial and discounts for pre-payment.

Feature to evaluateTeammates assign, comment on and draft replies together in a shared inbox, with AI add-ons for automated resolution, suggested replies and QA

Front is a shared inbox platform for customer operations. Email, Front Chat, SMS, WhatsApp and other channels arrive in shared workspaces. Teammates assign conversations, comment behind the scenes, draft replies together and invite colleagues without a paid license to comment.

Front's AI is sold as add-ons. Autopilot is its omnichannel AI agent for automated resolutions and actions. Copilot suggests replies, and Starter and Professional plans include a pooled quota of 10 suggested replies per seat per month. Smart QA and Smart CSAT review conversations and infer satisfaction. Front states that it uses OpenAI, Azure OpenAI and Amazon AWS as AI providers.

Starter costs $25 per seat per month for up to 10 seats and supports one channel type. Professional costs $65 for up to 50 seats and supports several channel types and up to five workspaces. Enterprise costs $105 and includes the AI seat add-ons. A 14-day trial needs no credit card.

Potential strengths

eesel AI

specialist
eesel.ai ↗
Consider forSupport teams that want an AI agent on their current help desk with no seat or platform fee, as eesel AI documents on its pricing page
Pricing noteseesel AI charges per task. A support ticket or chat session is one regular task at $0.40, however many messages it contains. Dashboard questions are free and blog drafts cost $4.00. There is no platform fee, monthly minimum or commitment. New accounts receive $50 of free usage, and a monthly usage limit, $250 by default, pauses agents when reached (checked Sep 2026)
Feature to evaluateEach ticket or chat costs a flat $0.40 regardless of message count, and a spending cap pauses agents instead of billing overages

eesel AI sells AI teammates for customer service, internal knowledge questions and content. For customer service, an eesel agent answers customer questions, drafts replies, triages tickets and hands work to people. It works with help desks including Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk, Gorgias and Help Scout.

Teams connect sources such as help centers, Google Drive, Confluence, Notion, Slack, Microsoft Teams and their website. They brief the agent in plain English on its role, instructions and guardrails, and test answers before customers see them. eesel keeps source material separate by workspace.

Pricing is by task. A support ticket or chat session costs $0.40 as one task, regardless of the number of replies. The company gives examples of $40 for 100 tickets a month and $400 for 1,000. Only tickets routed to the AI are charged. New accounts start with $50 of free usage, and a spending limit pauses agents when reached.

Potential strengths

  • Depends on a separate help desk for ticketing
  • Not a full service platform with case management or reporting of its own

Decagon

decagon.ai ↗
Consider forEnterprise customer experience teams that want one AI agent across chat, voice and email, with workflows written in natural language, as Decagon describes
Pricing notesDecagon does not publish prices. Buyers request a demo and receive a quote (recorded Sep 2026)
Feature to evaluateAgent Operating Procedures let business teams write and change agent workflows in natural language, with testing and analytics built in

Decagon builds AI agents for customer experience at large enterprises. It describes the product as an AI concierge that handles service across the customer lifecycle, and it states that one intelligence layer covers chat, voice and email so that a customer's context carries across channels.

The central feature is Agent Operating Procedures, or AOPs. They let a team define an agent's workflows in natural language rather than in a configuration language, so changes do not need an engineering sprint. Decagon also provides testing, observability and experimentation tools for validating agent logic, and an analytics suite that reports on conversations.

Decagon publishes customer results on its site, including resolution and deflection rates reported by named customers. It does not publish prices. StatWharf could not reach a pricing or documentation page when checking this entry, so the source status remains open.

Potential strengths

  • One agent layer across chat, voice and email
  • Workflows are written in natural language rather than a configuration language

Consider forConsumer brands that want support organized around a customer record and timeline, with AI agents for customers and representatives, as Kustomer describes
Pricing notesKustomer's pricing page did not show readable plan prices when checked. Buyers request an estimate from sales (recorded Sep 2026)
Feature to evaluateA customer service CRM that shows each customer's full history on one timeline, with AI agents for customers and for representatives

Kustomer describes itself as an AI-powered customer service CRM. Instead of treating each message as a separate ticket, it organizes conversations on a single timeline per customer, so an agent sees the customer's earlier conversations across channels in one view.

AI is sold for two audiences. AI agents for customers handle conversations directly, and AI agents for representatives assist human staff. Kustomer also provides omnichannel messaging, workflows, business rules and reporting.

Kustomer's pricing page did not display readable plan prices when StatWharf checked it in September 2026, so this entry records no price. Buyers should ask for a quote that separates platform fees from AI usage. The source status for this entry remains open until a pricing or documentation page can be read.

  • AI agents for customers and for representatives

How to choose a vendor

Price the AI meter, not only the seat

Help Scout charges $0.75 for each AI Answers resolution, eesel AI charges $0.40 for each support ticket or chat session, and Salesforce sells Agentforce by Flex Credits per action or by conversation. Gorgias bills its AI Agent per resolved conversation on top of a ticket-based plan. A buyer should multiply the expected monthly AI volume by each meter before comparing plan prices.

Decide whether to replace the help desk

Forethought and eesel AI add AI agents to an existing help desk such as Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk, Gorgias or Help Scout. Salesforce, Kustomer, Zoho Desk, Gorgias, Hiver, Help Scout and Front are help desks or service platforms in their own right. A team that is happy with its ticketing system can pilot an add-on layer first; a team that is changing systems anyway can compare full platforms.

Check the channels the AI agent covers

Decagon states that its agents cover chat, voice and email. Forethought lists chat and mobile on its Team tier, and email, voice and Slack on Professional. Help desk AI features often start with chat and email only. A buyer with a large phone queue should confirm voice support and its separate price before a pilot.

Frequently asked questions

What is AI customer service software?

AI customer service software uses language models to answer customers, draft replies for human agents, and classify or route tickets. Some products, such as Decagon, Forethought and eesel AI, are AI agent layers. Others, such as Salesforce Service Cloud, Gorgias, Hiver, Help Scout, Front, Zoho Desk and Kustomer, are help desks or service platforms with AI built in.

How is AI customer service software priced?

Four meters appear on this page. Help desks charge per user or seat, as Hiver, Help Scout, Front and Zoho Desk do. Gorgias charges per ticket bundle. AI agents are charged per resolution (Help Scout, Gorgias), per ticket (eesel AI), per conversation or per action (Salesforce Agentforce). Decagon, Forethought and Kustomer did not publish readable prices.

What does an AI resolution cost?

Published September 2026 rates include $0.75 per AI Answers resolution at Help Scout and $0.40 per ticket or chat session at eesel AI. Gorgias charges its AI Agent per resolved conversation, and Salesforce sells Agentforce conversations on a pre-purchase basis. These meters count different events, so buyers should compare them on the same monthly volume.

Can an AI agent be added to an existing help desk?

Yes. eesel AI works with Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk, Gorgias and Help Scout, and Forethought describes its agents as working with any CX platform. A team that wants to keep its current ticketing system can pilot one of these before deciding whether to move to a platform with AI built in.

Which products suit ecommerce brands?

Gorgias is built for ecommerce and prices by ticket volume rather than per agent. Kustomer targets consumer brands with a customer timeline that holds order history. Help Scout, Hiver and Front are general help desks that also serve online stores. Buyers should check order-system integrations, such as Shopify, before a pilot.

Which products cover voice support?

Decagon states that its agents cover voice as well as chat and email. Forethought includes voice agents from its Professional tier, and Salesforce offers Agentforce Voice through Flex Credits. Hiver and Gorgias sell voice as add-ons. A buyer with a large phone queue should confirm voice coverage and its separate price.

How is AI customer service software different from an AI contact center platform?

AI contact center platforms focus on phone queues, routing and real-time agent assistance on calls. AI customer service software, as selected here, focuses on written channels and ticket-based support, with voice as an add-on for several products. Some teams use both: a contact center for calls and a help desk or AI agent for email and chat.

How did StatWharf select and order these products?

StatWharf selected products that sell AI agents or AI features for customer service and publish enough product information to check. Each entry records the pages checked and the date. Entry order follows source readiness and content sequence, not a quality ranking, and no vendor confirmed its entry.
